Kyra’s POV
"You have a eting with the model we want to hire for our products, Miss Kyra. After that, you have a eting with the design team."
I nodded at Yara as we walked toward my office.
I sat down and glanced at the calendar on my desk, marking off another completed eting. Being back in the corporate world was exhausting, but it was nothing compared to handling pack affairs. For the past week, I’d been juggling both my company responsibilities and the temporary leadership of the Raven Shadow Pack.
Managing both my company and pack affairs was draining, though thankfully not as overwhelming as I’d feared. My years as Luna of the Nightfall Pack had prepared well for multitasking leadership roles.
Sylvia, my wolf, stirred restlessly within , sensing my fatigue. "Rest soon," she seed to urge.
I had just settled into my swivel chair when my phone rang. "Hello, Emily."
"I’m taking Snow on a lunch date," Emily announced.
I smiled. "Sure."
"But please tell her nanny that I don’t have the budget for her. Why tag along?"
I chuckled. "Let her be, Emily. Ana will take good care of her—"
"No, thanks! Just call her now because I left her in your condo. I’m in the car with Snow. Hey, love, say hello to mommy..."
My smile widened at hearing my daughter’s voice. I was grateful to have trustworthy friends to help with Snow. At least I wouldn’t have to worry while working, knowing she was in good hands.
My day continued in a whirlwind of etings. After my final appointnt concluded around 5 PM, I returned to my office exhausted. I’d already inford Ana I’d be ho late tonight. I was about to collapse into my chair when I noticed soone sitting on the couch, watching as I stretched my neck and arms.
My lips parted in surprise. When Nathan chuckled at my reaction, I felt my cheeks flush.
He stood, casually rolling up the sleeves of his polo shirt. His familiar minty scent filled the room. "You’re exhausted. Glad I ca to bring you so food. I bet you’re starving."
I raised an eyebrow. "Let guess. Your mother cooked too much again?"
He chuckled, setting the containers on my coffee table. "You know her too well. She always makes enough to feed an entire pack."
"I missed her cooking," I admitted, moving to join him on the couch.
As we ate in comfortable silence, I watched him. He seed genuinely concerned about , reminding of our early days together—before Sophia returned. Before everything fell apart.
"How’s managing the Raven Shadow Pack going?" he asked.
"Challenging. I’m handling territory disputes, pack hierarchy issues, and trying to appoint reliable wolves to key positions."
Nathan nodded. "I rember how much you helped with similar issues at my pack. You were always better at resolving conflicts than I was."
"You give too much credit," I said, though I appreciated his acknowledgnt.
"No, I an it. You were an exceptional Luna when you served, Kyra. I just didn’t appreciate it enough then."
The sincerity in his voice made my chest tighten. After all these years, I realized I couldn’t truly bla him for what happened. He never asked to fall in love with him. He didn’t know I had feelings for him, even before we married, feelings that only intensified when he showed how caring he could be as a mate.
From the beginning, he’d made it clear I was just his best friend... I was the one who hoped for more, who dread of sothing I thought was beyond reach. And now, seeing his sincerity, his effort, the worry and care in his eyes...
I’d been deeply wounded and wasn’t ready to trust again, but I also knew that running away wouldn’t help. Eventually, I would have to face the truth. I would have to face my feelings too.
I wasn’t sure how long I could keep ignoring his feelings when he was trying to rebuild what we’d lost.
"Kyra," Nathan said softly, "I was wondering... if it would be okay with you if I spent so ti with Snow?"
His request caught off guard. Even when Snow was still inside , I knew Nathan loved her, despite his assumption that Kieran was her father. When I gave birth, I’d seen him shed tears of joy. Now that he could see her in person, I could tell his attachnt had only grown stronger.
An Alpha’s instincts naturally recognized their own offspring. I’d been careful to mask Snow’s natural scent, knowing Nathan could sense she was his pup. Since Snow hadn’t shifted yet and her wolf remained dormant, there was no spiritual connection to reveal the truth to Nathan.
He licked his lips nervously, looking down. "I know this is too much to ask. I just... want to stay in your life even if you don’t want to be with anymore. Don’t get wrong! I’m not using her. I just... I feel like seeing her is enough to make happy."
He’s giving up on us. I wanted him to do that five years ago, but hearing him say that, I didn’t know anymore. My feelings were coming back but my fear was taking the best of .
I swallowed hard and forced myself to smile. I did everything I could so my smile wouldn’t end up looking fake. And when he smiled happily, I sohow felt relieved and...happy.
He wants to be with his daughter. I should really tell him the truth, but I’m scared.
We were smiling genuinely at each other when the door swung open. Yara entered, and behind her was Phoebe, whose lips imdiately parted after seeing and her brother together.
Okay... I really think this is...awkward.
"Are you dating in her office, Nathan?" Phoebe shalessly asked as she smirked.
Nathan cursed under his breath. "Don’t give her a reason to kick out of her life again, Phoebe. Why are you here?"
Phoebe grinned even more. "I was about to ask Kyra to go on a dinner date with , but it seems you got to ask her early."
