Kyra’s POV

I stood in front of my mother’s grave. The morning air was cool and slled of cut grass and approaching rain.

I held the lilies tightly in my hand. Before I could place them down, I caught another scent. Another wolf. Soone I didn’t know.

"Who are you?" I demanded, raising an eyebrow at the man standing before my mother’s headstone.

He looked up and down with calculating eyes and flashed a fake smile. "You must be Kate’s daughter."

The headstone had my mother’s na on it: Kate Peterson. When she died, my father and I hadn’t known her real na was Eva Foster. So we buried her as Kate.

I felt Sylvia stir inside .

"I don’t like him," she growled. "This guy’s dangerous. Stay alert."

"I can feel it too," I replied.

"I said, who are you?" I gritted my teeth.

He lifted his chin slightly, his smile fading. "I could be an enemy or an ally. What do you want to be?"

"It depends on your intention," I replied.

He chuckled. "You’re indeed a Foster. Bold and strong."

Now that he was closer, I could clearly see his features—thick eyebrows, long eyelashes, red lips, a proud pointed nose, and an angled jaw. Light stubble covered his jawline and chin. He looked about Nathan’s age.

He stepped forward and extended his hand. "Matt Foster."

My brow furrowed in confusion. "Foster?"

His smirk widened. "Hello, cousin."

My pulse quickened as realization hit. A Foster. There was a high probability he was an enemy.

"I’m Connor and Diane Foster’s son. Eldest," he explained, keeping his hand out.

I kept my arms at my sides, refusing his handshake. According to my research, Connor and Diane’s twin sons had been living abroad, enjoying the Foster family fortune without contributing to the pack or business. Now that they no longer had access to the company funds, they’d returned—undoubtedly to join their parents’ campaign against .

"Matt, let’s go! Mom mind-linked already..." A sharp voice interrupted our standoff.

Matt tilted his head toward the approaching figure. "That’s Mason. My twin."

The man nad Mason slowed his pace when he spotted . Unlike his brother’s calculated charm, Mason’s face imdiately darkened with open hostility. His jaw clenched tight.

"Matt, let’s go. Stop talking to a greedy person," he spat.

I couldn’t help but laugh sarcastically.

"What’s funny?" Mason stalked closer, towering over in an attempt at intimidation.

I looked up at him with contempt. "Look who’s talking? I didn’t spend a single cent of our grandmother’s money on sothing useless, Mason Foster. I’m working in the company, unlike you, who’s been wasting family money abroad without contributing anything."

"You—" His face contorted with rage.

"Mason, stop it!" Matt intervened, grabbing his brother’s arm.

"Let go!" Mason pushed his twin away and threw one last venomous glare before turning to leave. "I told you not to co here. Eva Foster has already fed the worms long ago, anyway. What’s the point of coming here?"

Sothing snapped inside at his disrespect for my mother.

I slapped him hard before I even realized I’d moved. "You bastard!"

"What the fuck?" Mason raised his hand to hit back, but soone pushed him hard before he could swing. He fell onto the grass.

Matt imdiately jumped on the guy who was defending .

"Nathan!" I cried out as they started fighting. Nathan was clearly winning; Matt was getting his ass kicked. Then Mason jumped in to help his brother.

"You asshole! Who do you think you are?" Mason snarled, trying to land a punch on Nathan.

Nathan blocked it easily. Even fighting two guys, his Alpha strength was obvious. "You started it, bastard! How dare you try to hurt Kyra?"

Matt was breathing hard, already beaten up.

Matt grabbed Mason’s arm. "Stop, Mason. He’s an Alpha. From another pack. You want to start a war?"

"I don’t care! He humiliated !" Mason struggled to break free.

"I said stop, I’m older than you! We’re leaving. Now!" Matt dragged his brother away.

I rushed to Nathan’s side, ignoring the twins completely. My heart ached as I saw the damage—a cut on his lip, a bruised cheek already turning purple. Tears welled in my eyes as I dug through my bag for a handkerchief, gently dabbing at the blood on his mouth.

"Are you okay? Were you hurt?" he asked.

I shook my head in disbelief. "You should worry about yourself. You’re hurt, Nathan."

His jaw clenched. "Don’t worry, just minor injuries. I’ll heal soon. They got hurt way worse. Who are they?"

"My mom’s nephews. Matt and Mason Foster."

His forehead creased in concern. "Why were they here? Did they follow you? What did they do?"

"I’m fine, Nathan," I said as I kept cleaning his cuts. "I’m more worried about you. You’re all bruised up. They ganged up on you. You shouldn’t have—"

My words caught in my throat as he suddenly pulled into his arms, holding so tightly I could barely breathe. A mont later, I felt sothing wet against my neck. My heart stuttered when I realized—he was crying.

"Nathan..." I whispered, gently patting his shoulders in confusion. Sothing was terribly wrong. This wasn’t just about the fight. I’d never seen him break down like this. "Nathan, tell m- what happened." My lips trembled with fear.

"I’m sorry..." he whispered, "L-Last night... sothing h-happened between and... Sophia."

My heart shattered into a million pieces. I tried to pull away, but he held even tighter, his body shaking with silent sobs. Sothing happened? Last night? Just after what we’d talked about? Just after he promised never to hurt again?

"No..." He tightened his embrace as I tried to break free. "I—I was drugged... I was tied. I was... stupid and helpless. I’m sorry... I’m sorry..."

His words stopped cold. Tied? Drugged?

As I listened to his broken sobs, feeling his arms trembling around , rage and pain surged through my veins. Sophia had done this? That psychotic bitch had violated him?

My breathing beca rapid, my chest heaving with fury. My wolf howled for blood, for vengeance.

"I’m sorry, Kyra... I’m really, really sorry..." His voice was so hollow, so desperate and pained.

I clenched my jaws so tight they ached. "Where is that bitch?"

"I d-don’t know." His voice cracked. "I’m too ashad... I... can’t."

I held Nathan close, my heart breaking for him. He grew up under his father’s control, but instead of becoming cold and ruthless like him, Nathan stayed gentle. Sotis even fragile. What happened hurt him in every way possible.

I started crying and hugged him back. I had more enemies now, didn’t I? This was never going to end. Would any of this ever stop?
