Kyra’s POV

Nathan’s pack mbers were heading to my mother’s company to evacuate all the employees. I had also contacted the elders from Raven Shadow Pack to help rescue the workers at Monroe Company.

Even though I had married Nathan and beco Luna of Nightfall Pack again, I was still responsible for my own company and my father’s pack mbers. That’s why Nathan and I needed to go to the scene ourselves.

We had just driven out of Nightfall Pack territory when the car leading us suddenly hit the brakes. Nathan almost crashed into the vehicle in front of us.

Nathan turned his head to mind-link the pack mber driving ahead, but got no response. "Stay in the car and be careful," he told as he got out to check what was wrong.

I watched through the windshield as Nathan approached the lead car. When he reached the driver’s side, his whole body went rigid. The pack mber who had been driving was slumped over the steering wheel, blood pooling beneath him. A gunshot wound to his forehead told the whole story.

My breath caught in my throat as mories of being kidnapped as a child ca flooding back. That night had been terrifying and heartbreaking.

Nathan imdiately rushed back to our car and grabbed my hand. "We need to move. Now."

Before Nathan could say anything else, gunshots rang out from the woods on both sides of the road. Organized rogues erged from their hiding spots, weapons raised. There was no trace of the usual rogue stench in the air - they had used scent masking spray. This was clearly a planned ambush.

Sylvia stirred anxiously in my mind. "Kyra, they were waiting for us.We need to fight back!"

One of Nathan’s warriors tossed him a gun before taking position to return fire. Nathan’s quick action snapped back to reality.

"Where do we go?" I asked, still able to hear the loud gunshots echoing around us.

Nathan licked his lower lip and scanned our surroundings. "We have to get out of here on foot. The car makes us too easy a target."

He led away from the vehicle, gripping my hand tightly and refusing to let go. My heart was beating so fast and loud I felt like it might jump out of my chest at any mont.

I hadn’t expected this kind of attack. Nathan and I felt our throats go dry as we ran toward the tree line, hoping to find cover in the forest.

It was already 5 PM. We had spent considerable ti searching for Emily, and now this was happening in the afternoon.

Nathan still held my hand firmly. His other hand gripped the gun, and I could see from his face that he was worried and scared for us.

"Don’t stop running, Kyra."

Because of the series of incidents and panic today, I was already exhausted. Running and dodging attacks here, I was at the end of my strength.

I swallowed hard. "I’m tired. I can’t run anymore."

Nathan stopped and faced . He was breathing as hard as I was, but he wasn’t thinking about his own exhaustion at all. He knelt in front of with his back toward .

"Kyra, get on my back."

"Nathan..."

"Get on my back. I will never leave you, so climb on. If you’re too tired to run, I’ll run for both of us. Trust ."

Even though he couldn’t see , I nodded and climbed onto his back. I wrapped my arms around his neck, just tight enough that it wouldn’t choke him. He started running with on his back, and I knew how hard this was for him. I couldn’t deny I was heavy, especially since I’d been eating more lately and gained so weight.

"Let hold the gun." I said, seeing him struggle to carry the weapon while carrying . He imdiately handed the gun when I saw soone ahead of us.

My eyes widened. There was a lone figure who seed to be looking for us, and he spotted us quickly.

"Shoot him, Kyra!" Nathan said while continuing to run.

I took a deep breath and raised my arm. I tried my best to focus and put my courage into the gun because I trusted Nathan. He was still running, and the person ahead started running toward us too. He pointed his gun at us, and before he could pull the trigger, I shot and killed him.

He stopped running, and my lips parted as the gunshot echoed in the afternoon silence. Dogs in the neighborhood started barking wildly.

"They’ll find us," I whispered.

"We’re going to get through today safely without losing each other," Nathan replied, which made close my eyes. Yes, we would survive. I believed him.

When I saw a car driving toward us, I imdiately hid the gun. The car suddenly stopped in front of us, and my eyes went wide when I saw the man sitting in the driver’s seat.

"Get in quickly," the man called out through his open window. "Get in quickly. More rogues are coming."

"Mason..."
