If it really worked out, it would be fate. She wouldn’t try to force them apart.
But an independent-minded woman wouldn’t compromise her principles or make herself miserable for soone else.
That put Xie Changning’s mind at ease.
At first, Xie Changyi didn’t quite understand what "independent-minded" ant.
Xie Changning explained, "It ans she has her own opinions, her family respects her choices, and she’s highly self-motivated..."
Xie Changyi thought it over, then looked at Xie Changning.
"You an, a girl like you?"
"Not exactly. It’s just that they’re strong on the inside. They don’t pin their hopes on other people, things like that."
To be independent in thought and character—not many people can achieve that.
But as long as you stand firm in your choices, you can’t go wrong.
Girls like that are the type to love themselves, so when they got into a relationship, Xie Changning wasn’t worried they would do sothing reckless and irreversible in the heat of the mont.
"You’re right. That’s actually a pretty good way to handle it," Xie Changyi said after so thought, feeling that Xie Changning’s approach wasn’t bad at all.
As the two were chatting, a man from the next table suddenly stood up and approached them.
The man, dressed in a black suit and holding a wine glass, ca up to Xie Changning and gave her a gentlemanly smile. "Hello, miss. Might I get to know you?"
His mannerisms were very Western; you could tell at a glance that he had studied abroad.
However, his expression was frivolous. It didn’t seem like he was genuinely interested in getting to know her or pursuing her. It was more like he found what Xie Changning had just said to be amusing.
He was prodding her, testing to see if she could really live up to her words.
Xie Changning frowned and replied politely, "I’m sorry, I don’t make a habit of getting to know strange n." With that, she started to get up to pay the bill.
The man moved to follow, but Xie Changning turned her head.
"I think it’s better if I pay for myself. My husband wouldn’t be happy."
Hearing that Xie Changning had a husband, the man froze. He sized her up for a long mont before suddenly bursting into laughter. "You don’t look that old. How could you have a husband?"
Xie Changyi frowned, giving the man a scrutinizing look.
"Which country did you study in?"
"I studied in Germany."
Upon hearing this, Xie Changyi began speaking to him in very fluent German. Her pace wasn’t fast, but—
—her words were extrely unpleasant.
While Xie Changyi was speaking, Xie Changning kept an eye on the man’s face. She noticed his expression didn’t change much, and she stifled a laugh.
"Stop, he doesn’t understand."
Xie Changning’s words shattered the man’s composure in an instant. He glared at her. "I’m doing you a favor by hitting on you! Do you have any idea who my father is?"
’Don’t tell your dad is so big shot?’ Xie Changning really wanted to ask.
If he hadn’t said that, Xie Changyi wouldn’t have bothered with him. But now that he had, she had no choice but to make trouble for him.
"Oh? And who is your father? Tell , I’m all ears."
The man wasn’t an idiot. When he’d first approached them, he could already tell these two won seed highly educated.
But he thought that as soone who had studied abroad, he held a higher status than top students from dostic universities.
That’s why he had straightened his appearance and co over to hit on Xie Changning.
"My father is the director of the Chuncheng Bearing Factory!" The man was incredibly proud as he said it. Their factory was the leading one in the province.
Hearing this, Xie Changyi nodded and turned to one of the restaurant staff.
"May I borrow the phone?" She took two yuan out of her pocket, placed it in front of the waiter, and dialed her office number. "Have the director of the Chuncheng Bearing Factory co to the state-run restaurant downstairs from our office building. Just say... he’s needed to bail out his son."
After saying her piece, Xie Changyi hung up the phone.
She turned to the man, who had been so arrogant monts ago but was now a bit stunned. "Have a seat. We’ll wait and see when your father gets here."
This guy had gone abroad to study, and while he hadn’t learned much else, he’d perfected the art of being a poser.
Did he think being a factory director’s son ant he could do whatever he wanted?
By now, no matter how slow he was, the man understood. These two won were not who he thought they were. It looked like he had picked a fight with the wrong people.
He felt a pang of regret and wanted to leave.
But just as he was about to stand up, he heard Xie Changning say, "Oh? You’re not thinking of running away, are you? That’s not a very attractive quality in a man, you know."
As Xie Changning spoke, she flashed a perfectly tid, subtle smile.
The man was montarily captivated by her smile and sat back down. He cleared his throat. "Who said I was leaving? I was just getting tired of sitting."
He proudly puffed out his chest, trying to show off his barely-there pectoral muscles to Xie Changning.
Xie Changning gave him a casual, slightly disgusted glance.
’That little bit of muscle wouldn’t even be a snack for Yue Yihan,’ she thought.
Xie Changning barely looked before turning away, as if she’d seen sothing offensive.
Xie Changyi, anwhile, started asking the man so questions. He wasn’t a complete fool, however. After realizing that Xie Changyi’s status was anything but ordinary, his tone was no longer as arrogant as before.
When answering her questions, he started to be more cautious with his words.
He was trying his best not to cause trouble for his father.
Unfortunately for him—
—the words he’d just spoken weren’t said to an ordinary person, but to the director of the Foreign Trade Bureau. He had already caused his father a great deal of trouble.
Just as the man had implied, he was his father’s only son, the apple of his eye.
Upon hearing he needed to co and "bail out" his son, the man arrived at the restaurant in less than half an hour. He rushed in, his face tense, and yelled, "Who? Who’s holding my son?"
His voice was so loud that it imdiately drew the attention of many people in the restaurant.
The diners here were all people who worked in the nearby office building. Seeing the man’s behavior, many of them frowned.
They all recognized him, but he was so frantic to find his son that he didn’t bother to look at anyone else. His eyes were only for his son.
"My boy!" The mont he entered, he saw his son sitting with two won and imdiately assud his son had been seduced.
His expression changed instantly, and he prepared to humiliate the two won sitting beside his son.
"You two should take a piss and—" He looked up, and his voice died in his throat as if he were a strangled chicken.
Xie Changning frowned. She could tell the man had been about to insult her and Xie Changyi.
She leaned back in her chair and crossed her legs. "Were you about to say, Mr. Factory Director, that I should take a piss and look at my reflection to see if I’m worthy of your son?"
Xie Changning’s icy voice snapped the man out of his stupor.
Seeing that Xie Changning was about to make things difficult for him, the man quickly wiped the sweat from his forehead and greeted Xie Changning and Xie Changyi. "Director Xie, Mr. Xie, I never expected to run into you two here. What a coincidence."
"It’s no coincidence. We were waiting for you."
