"How are they going to go in?" Linda asked as the live feed showed the soldiers still calm, checking their equipnt and waiting for the other squad to get in position.
"The first raid team that goes to level one, they’re going in two ways," Stephen spoke as he turned the chair toward Linda. "One is the little birds, which are the ones going to land on rooftops or on the ground in the streets, while the bigger helicopters are going to use ropes, and the team will get down that way."
"Little birds?" She asked back, confused, though she wasn’t confused about what it ant.
"Yeah, you know, the very small helicopters—" Stephen wanted to explain, but she cut in.
"I know what those are, but I never knew NSBI had those."
"It’s thanks to Odin himself." Thomas joined in. "The only good thing he did before running away was reforming the whole armory and vehicles of the NSBI." He smiled. "That was the only ti he didn’t steal the funds but actually used them, and with it, he made a force able to strike on the level of the military."
"Yeah, exactly." Stephen continued. "Ten little birds, four Black Hawks, dozens of JLTVs, and more and more weaponry with the highest tech, but it ca with a lot of scrutiny because a lot of people thought he was building a—"
"Private military." Linda finished for Stephen and realized that she didn’t know about it at all... that Odin did all of this.
The only thing she knew were so files and docunts, secret ones about Odin, that so people said he posed a danger, a threat, but they never gave the reason why. They never even sent those docunts to everybody, only to a few ministers. They feared that so might support Odin, and not just him but the other agencies. And with that, they could have beco what they were supposed to be from the beginning.
The NSBI, IF, ISB building up their agencies to beco a military-like one and combined with what secrets they knew... they could have taken over the whole fucking governnt. They could have beheaded people with one fucking click. But it never happened, as corruption took over everything. The funds were frozen and the only agency that had military weapons was the NSBI and still is.
Transport helicopters, attack helicopters, grenade launchers, military armored vehicles, miniguns, rocket launchers... if Odin would have done more, if he would have bought more, then the NSBI would have beco a truly threatening force to the so-called "sovereignty and democracy." But he ran the fuck away.
Though what he did back then now made everything possible, to act fast and behead people.
Those ministers were right. Their fears and worries were right. In the end, it wasn’t Odin who used NSBI to hunt, but he was the one who made the steps for it.
"Ma’am."One of the technicians spoke as he slowly stood up from his chair. "Everybody is in position, only waiting for the signal."
In that mont, out of the sudden, Linda felt the weight of it... like up until this point she didn’t really care about anything, she didn’t really think about the outco, maybe, how much this ans if they go with it hunting down the politicans... but now, as the technician said that they are ready and only waiting for her word to go in and do it... it all just hit her like a tsunami wave.
Her breath beca slow, her face paled, her whole being seed like she was lost deep inside, lost the aning of it all, lost the very soul of her, because even if a tiny bit goes wrong, then it’s over. If it leaks out, then it’s over. If sobody gets a sniff that sothing is strange about the operation... maybe so fucking journalist goes digging, finds so security footage, maybe sothing leaks to her... then once it’s out, it’s over.
She thought that she already made the biggest decision in her life, but no... that ever just child player, the very lower level of corruption, very lower level of the power that the president granted to her... but now she is on the top of it.
In so sense she has more power than the president himself, she has the power to kill, has the power to restore order with Thomas, Stephen and Benjamin and that is the worst of it.
It is not about Linda, not about her career or her life but everybody fucking life. If this goes wrong they will be all jailed, all killed, all of them, even maybe the president would be fucking jailed and killed and then everything collapsed. Jas would be alone to fight or maybe he too would be executed and then the country would truly fall... maybe a civil war truly would break out.
But more importantly, she just realized how much weight it puts on her, how much pressure it places on her sanity, on her morals, on her whole being... on her soul. She isn’t an agent, she isn’t a killer, she isn’t an emotionless shell of a human... she’s human, she feels everything and maybe that’s the worst part of it.
All these thoughts are—
"Signal confird. ’Operation Hunt’ is green lit." Thomas’s voice followed by the static noise of the radio and the eyes of Linda... the eyes that were teary...
"All unit operations green lit, over." The technician’s voice echoed in the room followed by only one word.
"Roger."
"I’m sorry Linda, but there is no place to think too much, there is no place to worry, there is only place for actions." Thomas said as he sat back down watching the screen and as Linda looked at it she saw it.
The rope being thrown down, the agents looking at each other a last ti and then it began, the first one went down followed by the agent with the body cara.
"Linda." Now Stephen’s voice as he was focused on the screen, his hands together didn’t even look at her. "What you’re going to see is much worse than you thought, what you’re going to see is..." He looked at her. "... much worse."
That look of Stephen, that look in his eyes... was sothing she never saw from him. Those eyes were empty... not the sa Stephen who looked bored, tired, nonchalant, no those eyes of his were empty.
Like in that mont he switched, all the morals, all the emotions went out of him and beca the person who is not letting anything touch his soul, because he lost it long ago.
And she knew exactly... if she watched the footage, she would never be the sa.
If she watched what they were doing, the amount of trauma she would suffer was not sothing she could... survive.
"I... am... will be outside..." She said as a tear rolled down her face and with it left the room behind and she stepped out... she imdiately started vomiting.
That knot in her stomach, that understanding of what is going to happen to her morality... her morality was still there and she knew that she just lost a piece of her...
’Perish Evil’ the badge says... but evil needs to be perished from the roots and they all knew what it ant, of course they knew... of course Linda knew it but didn’t understand it until she was the eye of Stephen.
"The first team in." The technician’s voice ca and as they watched the footage as the agents went into the house of the Minister of Energy, the aning of ’perish evil’ showed itself.
The exploding flashbangs, without a shout, without a command... the agents just swept through the house, up the stairs, into the bedroom, where they found not the target but... his family.
His wife, his daughter... their worried, terrified faces, they just woke up from a dream into a nightmare... asking who is there, what is happening... and the beginning.
But their begging was heard by no one... because they went there to perish evil... evil that cos in lots of shapes, lots of forms...
Yeah... their terrified begging were answered... without suffering... their begging was answered fast and quick.
