"How do I look, Charlotte?" Jas asked as he was finally on set, looking good, handso, and dangerous… at least he thought, but Charlotte's eyes said sothing entirely else.
She took her ti looking through Jas like she was judging him. "Like a businessman." She said, but Jas wasn't sure as she looked like she was hating it and indeed she did because of one thing.
"It's going to be better." Jas said as he grabbed the butterfly ring and put it on. "Now how do I look?"
It was an instant change as her smile grew big. "Much better!" She shouted in joy and jumped into Jas, but it wasn't the right idea as his legs gave out and he fell back to the bed.
But rather than hearing Charlotte laugh, he heard nothing. Not a single word, not a single laugh, just silence as her hand gripped his suit tighter and tighter as she pushed her hand into his chest.
"Thirty." She said as her voice trembled but didn't look up, just gripped him tighter. "I—I heard it."
Fuck… Jas closed his eyes as he realized what she was talking about… she heard him and Darvik… she heard it all.
"That doesn't an I'm going to die, Charlotte." He said as he stared at the ceiling, but not even he was sure about it. It wasn't a lie nor the truth… who knows when the ti cos.
Still nothing, she said nothing because she knew it too well. She saw many die young, she saw familiar faces disappear, and next she was at their funerals. It happened all the ti.
"But it can happen." She said again, but her voice wasn't sad at all… it was angry.
I can't lie, huh… Jas thought, as Charlotte was there and saw when he got shot, she saw it all and she wasn't dumb.
"It can and will." He said as he put his hand on her head. "But nobody knows when the ti cos, Charlotte. So go young even when they lived a perfect life, so go old even when they were the most evil. So die after being born. Life is tricky and we are part of the trick."
"But you are a trickster."
How can she be this naive and other tis so clever…
It wasn't naivety. It was the simple truth that Jas still didn't fully understand, that he is a father, and Charlotte is his daughter, a reality that feels distant to him even now, as if he is still trying to grasp what it truly ans to hold that role, to carry that responsibility, and to be soone a child can depend on.
And what Charlotte felt in that mont was love for her father, a love that rested deep in her heart, a love she doesn't want to lose, a love she can't lose, because to her it is everything.
For Jas, it was still sothing strange to think that he had a daughter. It was strange to think that she thought of him as a father… it was stranger than anything else, more than this whole drug bullshit.
Jas wasn't prepared for it, but Lucian chose him for a reason. He knew that Jas would take care of her and more importantly, and sadly, he knew Charlotte would love him, would look at him as a father… and indeed she does, maybe too much, but it's all because one thing that outweighs everything.
She is being loved, a thing she never felt, she has a real ho she never had before… and she doesn't want to lose it.
"Yeah, and maybe I will trick life." Jas said as he sat down with Charlotte now in his lap. "But now we need to live in the present, Charlotte, and don't worry about things that are not certain, okay?" He said as he gave her a kiss on the forehead.
"Okay." She whispered her voice low as he hugged him once again tight but it was ti.
It was ti to leave as Mike stood in the doorway and signaled to Jas that they needed to go.
"Tomorrow we go shopping," Jas counted as he put her down. "We buy jewelry, clothes, and whatever you want, okay?"
Again, nothing, not even a word, just a tight hug, as she didn't want him to leave… but eventually, her grip loosened and she let him go, let him walk out… leaving her behind once again.
"She is getting closer to you, huh?" Mike asked as he grinned a bit, because from outside they truly looked like a father and daughter.
"Yeah… but what are we going with?" Jas asked, but Mike didn't need to answer as they went out the front door the answer was there. "Ohh…"
A long blacked out limousine with a Maraci flag on the front and back, exactly looking like a diplomat convoy with two SUVs in the back and the front with the police lights.
"Darvik sent this. He said it will be a comfortable ride, but our n are in the escort SUVs, only the drivers are Darvik's n." Mike said as he stepped down and opened the door for Jas.
Huh, having this much of an entourage in the safest country… he thought as he sat in, but didn't really think about it more, as he was more curious about the outside as the car rolled out of the embassy.
The streets, the people, the overall atmosphere, he was curious about it all. And, well, to be true, he didn't see much of it as the sirens and police lights gave them the right to speed through the traffic without any stops.
They were going like a fucking bullet, and the only thing he saw was the greenery, which he saw when they arrived at the airport and took the taxi. Everything was green, like the complete opposite of how it was supposed to be in a desert country. Though what the taxi driver explained to them, it made sense to fight against the drought and the sand in this way.
It looked like a fantasy country where just everything… was perfect… though the eting might change that view about the whole of Maraci.
