Charlotte had heard everything, every single word, but nothing really happened because of it, she didn’t say anything at all, she just hugged Jas, and in the following days she stayed with him, grabbing his hand or resting in his arms, never leaving his side even once, while they all did everything they could to make sure Erika was fine.
Though, in truth, they didn’t really need to do much, because Darvik once again showed who he truly was as out of nowhere she turned Erika into a permanent resident of Maraci, got her a healthcare card, a identity card, a passport, and even a bank card, which was possible because Jas handed over all the cash they had brought with them.
In short, Darvik was a motherfucker who could get anything done in a single fucking day, though it was painfully obvious that this was also his tactic, to draw Jas closer and closer, making sure they weren’t just on good terms, but on great ones, before the ti finally ca for them to go back.
It’s a strange feeling, a strange kind of atmosphere, knowing that you are a drug lord and now sitting on a private plane, flying back to actually be a drug lord, to actually work, all while realizing that you have just made three separate deals.
Calo, who wants to buy a large amount of pure White Magic, Damien, who wants to get in on the 3D-printed weapons, and Darvik, who wants his cut off the money in exchange for providing protection.
And of course, there was the biggest deal of all, the one between Jas and the governnt itself, sothing he knew absolutely nothing about, because literally not a single call happened during his stay in Maraci. Linda said they would stay in contact through the laptop he got, but there was nothing, not even one call. The only person who provided him with information about what the fuck was happening back ho was Hector himself, which was kind of... bad.
Flying back while knowing that the governnt had fucked everybody just to give you an open road to deal drugs, yet hearing absolutely nothing from them, felt like a trap being set, but of course there was nothing like that... no, the exact opposite.
They were waiting for Jas.
In the last couple of days, the governnt stopped caring about what was legal and what wasn’t. They did whatever they wanted. Ministers were arrested for no real reason, dragged away in the middle of the night, thrown into jail or even executed. They wrote fake reports, set up fake institutions, and planted fake evidence wherever it was needed. They burned the drugs in public, not because it was right, but to send a ssage "this is what happens when we co for you". Then they showed the bodies of dead gang mbers on TV, laid out with guns, cash, and all kinds of shit, replaying it over and over until people stopped asking questions and just believed it.
After that, they went on air and said the capital was clean. No more criminal organizations, no more gangs... according to them, the city was free and once they said that, they moved on to the next lie.
They announced that the rest of the country was next, that every state, every city, every corner would be cleared the sa way, but that was the real trick. By saying the capital was done, they pushed everyone’s eyes sowhere else.
They declared war on every major criminal organization in the country, to the public, it sounded like the natural next step, but in truth, the declaration served a different purpose. By announcing a nationwide offensive, they deliberately pushed attention away from the capital and forced it outward, toward distant regions, individual states, and cities which ant that all the investigators, journalists shifted their focus, believing the real battles would now be fought far from the center of power... and with that they made the biggest step.
With the spotlight removed from the capital, a person can work, a person they’ve been waiting a long ti to return... Jas himself... finally stepping into his rule and beginning to build his empire.
With no attention and with the cover of the governnt and the agencies, he can reestablish supply lines. People could be transferred, the building of the labs and production can be started more quickly and faster, and at the sa ti the drugs that they still have packed up in warehouses can be sold and smuggled under the cover of chaos that is going on everywhere in the nation.
What everyone thought was an escalation was really just a distraction, made to keep people busy and let them move freely, in the capital and everywhere else, though of course no one was against it. No, everybody was happy that finally it was happening, because, well, the governnt put sothing behind it.
That once the cities are clear, the resurrection can be started... basically they were doing the sa thing that Jas did. Giving people hope, and the way they did it was city by city. They started building up these quick camps of food, healthcare to give people for free, and also President William pushed out his vision that hospitals, schools, infrastructure, and workplaces will be built all over the nation using the money they are seizing from the criminals.
Everybody was happy that it was actually happening... except for those in the so called human rights organizations and the Union, who were sent investigators to see what the fuck was going on, to figure out what was right and what wasn’t. They really wanted to uncover the truth and investigate, but as soon as they landed at the airport, they were sent the fuck back.
Basically, the stage was set, and everybody was waiting for Jas. When his plane landed at the airport, from that point on he was no longer just a figure in the criminal underworld... he was the criminal underworld itself.
And the Empire was waiting for him... to sit on the throne.
"Welco back Jas."
"What a welco, Hector." Jas said as he hugged him, and it truly felt like a welco.
At least the fully blacked out SUVs waiting, n standing all around securing the periter.
"Did you enjoy your vacation?" Hector asked again as they sat in the car.
"Oh, it was great... but I need to apologize for leaving you behind." Jas thought about it a lot... about how, when he had just dipped, he might have made the worst decision... a decision that could have cost the trust between them, making it seem like the boss just disappears whenever there’s danger and leaves everything to be handled by his n... but no... Hector didn’t see it that way.
"You don’t need to, Jas. I’m here for you and the family, you know that." Hector said, smiling at him and that smile was sothing special... like the smile when a loved one finally cos back after a long absence... his eyes were sparkling. "Though we have a lot to do, etings with Linda and the others, the drugs to calculate, the money to—"
"First, I need to visit Rafael and Hans." Jas interrupted. "I haven’t seen them in a long ti, and after that, Ferucci and Finn. We can handle the others later."
"Of course that is a good idea." Hector said, knowing how much seeing them, or not seeing them could affect Jas, and how much it could hurt him after so long, but before they could even start moving, there was a knock at the door... from Mike and as Jas opened it, there she was... Charlotte, looking mad at him.
"What?" Jas asked, but she didn’t say anything, just straight climbed into his lap and just sat there without any words... well she was actually whispering sothing under her breath... probably cursing Jas.
Though it was obvious to Jas why she was doing it, she had heard everything he said to Erika and he knew that she would never really leave him alone. That seed of family, the bond between father and daughter, had been planted that day, the day she had heard those words.
"Should I switch cars?" Hector asked, as to him it seed like a relationship struggle between father and child.
"No." Charlotte said it fast and firmly, staring into Hector’s eyes... and she saw it, she had those eyes... but not the ones ever speaking about the Lucian type. No, it was more like... Jas’ eyes sohow.
"Don’t be aggressive, Charlotte. We are going to see Rafael and Hans, and they need peace, you know. After that, you can say everything you want, but be a good girl until then, okay?" Jas said, and in that mont sothing switched in her... and it was Hector who saw it as she still just stared at her... it was kind of heartwarming to see that she, too, understood what those two nas ant to Jas.
After that, nothing but silence, as she just hugged Jas tighter while the car rolled out, heading to the resting place of both Rafael and Hans.
