While Bella and Hector kept arguing over Jas, what was right and what was wrong with him, how his behavior could fuck up the whole family, and how only one child was anchoring him, Jas himself was doing exactly what Bella had told Hector.
He was enjoying his ti with Charlotte, where everything was just peaceful.
"Do you like it?" Charlotte's voice ca as she looked up at him with her big eyes, and Jas was stunned.
"Woah, Charlotte, you did a great job." He said as he looked at the flowers she had painted on the marble and it was on a whole other level.
He had seen her paint a few tis before, and it had always looked like a typical child's painting, nothing professional, nothing really good, just lovely in a simple way at least. But now, she painted in a way that was kind of unbelievable.
The details, the colors she chose to paint with, the precision, and more than that, the fact that it was not on a canvas or paper but on marble.
"I never thought I would have a professional painter in my family." Jas said, laughing as he petted her head. "What do you think about mine?" He laughed again as he looked at what he had painted
It was everything but flowers. It more so looked like a dick with two balls.
"Looks like sothing Bella would like." She giggled, clearly knowing exactly what it looked like, and well, she also knew that Bella was after it.
"At least I tried." Jas said as he laughed at it, looking at it longer. "Though I am happy you can paint like this. You could beco an artist, sobody who sells their paintings for millions."
"You think?" She asked back, but in that mont, sothing changed in her, like her eyes started sparkling as she looked up at Jas, and even her voice was filled with excitent.
"I know it, darling." Jas petted her head. "You know there are many competitions for children who paint. Maybe I can sign you up for one. What do you think about that?"
Now, it was even more than excitent in her eyes as Jas asked. It was like she had been waiting for this mont her whole life, not just to have soone admire what she painted, but to do sothing more than that. To be seen, to be believed in, to have soone truly believe in what she loved doing.
It was not just a safe space for her, but the one place where she could truly be herself, where nothing in the world could dim the fire inside her.
From the very beginning, the sa day she joined their lives and beca part of his family, her eyes had been drawn to paint, brushes, and canvas. That day, when he took her shopping for art supplies, she stared at every color, every brush, every blank page as if it were treasure.
In her, the world of painting was more than a hobby. It was a sanctuary, a place where she could lose herself, though on the other hand it had another taphorical aning and it was none other than the blood.
While Charlotte was painting with the colors where she could just be a simple child. Not an Augustus, not a Bellini, but just Charlotte, on the other hand Jas was different.
He had been a painter for a long ti… a painter with blood and to be able to paint with blood, it required many bodies. Lots and lots of bodies had to be taken so that he could cover the canvas in deep red and with it, he painted a part of himself too.
It was like he was the brush itself, the one that went deep into the blood and painted sothing terrible and grueso.
"I like it." Charlotte spoke, pulling out Jas from his thoughts. "But then you need to paint with ."
"With you?"
"Yes, because you can't paint." She said as she looked back at that dick-looking flower. "That is trash, dad."
"Trash?" Jas looked at her. "You can be more careful with your words, you know."
"You said words an a lot, so I used it to an a lot." She smiled at him. "Reality is sothing we can't ignore." She pointed at the wall. "Trash."
Well, maybe he shouldn't have said anything to her, because it was obvious she is going to use it against everyone, moreover she will find herself in many troubles in her life, but the damage was done, or more like the teaching.
"Well, you are—" He felt it, and not just him, but even Charlotte felt it.
"What was that?" She asked as she looked at Jas, who was looking at the chandelier and it was shaking lightly.
"I don't kno—" He couldn't finish, but out of nowhere the shake got even worse as the whole house started trembling. "Charlotte, co!" Jas shouted as he pulled her up, but the mont got even stronger, so strong that he could barely stand on his own feet, while the furniture just fell over, smashing into the walls.
"Jas!" Hector's voice ca as with Bella they ran down from the office, but the shake got worse, so much worse that Jas couldn't stand any longer and almost fell, but Hector in ti put his hand on him to support from the back."The basent!" Hector shouted, looking at Bella, who grabbed Jas too, and together they all ran down to the basent while the shaking grew even more intense, every part of the house around them breaking.
It was surreal, so surreal that Charlotte wasn't even shouting or crying. She was silent as Jas covered her head and they moved down the stairs while everything around them shook and broke apart.
Nobody knew what the fuck was happening. Well, they knew it was a fucking earthquake, sothing that had never happened, sothing they had never experienced in their whole lives, and now it was shaking like sobody had just dropped a nuclear bomb.
