Finally unable to endure it any longer, Lux raised the question everyone was itching to ask—everyone except Khione, who had no desire to know. She reasoned that how Nero had accomplished sothing nobody else ever had was likely tied to a secret of his body or soul. He would share it with her one day if he wished.

"Nero," Lux began, his voice cutting through the comfortable chatter. "How did you do it? How are you able to wield a second Law?"

All eyes turned to him. Nero took a long, slow breath, his expression becoming troubled.

"I wish I knew," he said, the lie coming smoothly through his teeth. "I just felt sothing calling to from the depths of my soul, and when I answered, I beca able to use it." There was no way he would share his greatest secret. He trusted them, but this was a truth that, if revealed, would unleash unimaginable trouble.

Although no one was fully convinced by Nero’s explanation, there was nothing they could do to press further.

"Maybe it’s unique to him. A unique constitution," Blake suggested through a lazy yawn, clearly not wishing to dwell on the matter. Being friends with soone who had achieved the impossible was enough; there was no need to dig for his secrets. If it were a replicable technique, soone would have done it before. They all understood that with Nero’s advent, the world might change, and building a strong relationship with him was paramount.

Afterward, they did not bring the matter up again and simply enjoyed the rest of their ti together until they returned to the real world. Night had fallen. Blake disappeared into his room the mont they arrived. Azalea excused herself, stating she had sothing important to do, and Eltreth did the sa. Lux went to see his mother, and Adam retreated to video-call his father.

Left to themselves, Nero and Khione decided to change clothes before eting at the estate’s pool for a late-night swim, intent on enjoying the rest of the evening together.

••••

Forty minutes later, Nero erged into the moonlit courtyard, dressed in simple dark blue swim shorts and a white sleeveless shirt, a towel slung over his shoulder. The night air was warm and carried the distant scent of night-blooming jasmine. He didn’t have to wait long.

Khione descended the steps from her wing of the estate, and Nero felt his breath catch. She wore a bikini of the palest ice blue, its delicate straps and elegant cut accentuating her slender yet toned figure. The fabric had a subtle shimr, catching the moonlight like frost on a winter morning. Tied low on her hips was a sheer, flowing sarong of silver, patterned with intricate, darker blue designs that resembled frozen fractals. It drifted around her legs like a wisp of cloud, adding an air of ethereal grace to her stunning appearance.

He t her gaze, his voice soft and sincere. "You look... breathtaking."

A small, genuine smile touched her lips, and she accepted his complint with a graceful nod. "Shall we?"

He offered his arm, and together they walked through the manicured gardens toward the main swimming area. The pool was a masterpiece of design, a vast, lagoon-style expanse of shimring azure water, lit from below by soft, ambient lights that made it glow against the dark night. A cascading waterfall feature at one end provided a gentle, soothing soundtrack. Lush, tropical plants surrounded it, offering pockets of privacy, and elegant loungers were arranged on the smooth stone deck.

Dropping their towels on a nearby lounger, they stood at the water’s edge.

"A race?" Nero suggested, a playful challenge in his eyes. "Two lengths. Freestyle."

Khione’s crystal-blue eyes glinted. "You’re on."

They dove in simultaneously, the water a cool, shocking embrace. Nero powered through with strong, practiced strokes, his muscular arms cutting through the water with efficient force. Khione, however, was a surprise. She moved with the fluid, silent grace of a sea nymph, her form perfect, her kicks creating minimal splash. She wasn’t as brutishly strong, but her technique was flawless.

They touched the far wall almost at the sa ti, Nero pulling ahead by only a fraction of a second. He surfaced, pushing his dark blue hair back, grinning. "I win."

"Barely," she retorted, a playful smirk on her lips as she treaded water. "Your form is still sloppy."

"Oh, is it?" he laughed, splashing a small wave of water toward her.

That was all the provocation needed. The competition dissolved into a playful water fight. He would try to dunk her, and she would slip away like a silvery eel, using a kick to send a wall of water back into his face. She was surprisingly agile and cunning in the water, using her smaller size to her advantage. He would chase her, and she would laugh—a rare, musical sound that echoed in the night—as she evaded his grasp. The serene pool was transford into their private playground, filled with splashing, laughter, and shared, exhilarated breaths.

Eventually, breathless and smiling, the playful battle subsided. They found themselves in the deeper end, where the waterfall cascaded down, its mist cool on their skin. The world narrowed to the two of them, the gentle roar of the water, and the moon hanging overhead like a silent witness.

Nero looked at her, her white hair plastered to her neck and shoulders, her eyes sparkling with leftover mirth and sothing deeper, softer. He reached out, his hand finding her waist beneath the water, pulling her gently through the resistance until she was close, her body just inches from his.

Khione didn’t resist. She placed her hands on his shoulders, her touch cool even through the water. The playful energy faded, replaced by a thick, palpable tension. The sounds of the night seed to fade away.

He leaned in slowly, giving her every chance to pull back. She t him halfway.

Their lips t in a kiss that was cool and warm all at once, tasting of chlorinated water and sothing uniquely, essentially them. It was not a kiss of frantic passion, but of deep, settling affection. It was a seal on the day’s events—on his triumph, her protectiveness, their shared laughter, and their unshakable bond. His arms wrapped around her, pulling her flush against him as the water lapped gently at their shoulders. Her hands slid from his shoulders to the back of his neck, her fingers tangling in his wet hair.

They kissed under the waterfall’s mist and the watchful moon, two souls finding their center in each other amidst the quiet grandeur of the night. When they finally parted, foreheads resting together, breathing softly, no words were needed. The water, the moon, and the silent estate around them were the only audience to a romance that was both powerfully epic and beautifully, perfectly simple.
