Now reading: CHAPTER 24: THE FORMAT OF FINAL THINGS from Primordial Sovereign Emperor System, a Action novel by Emperor Dunsin.

The Final Trial format was announced at first bell.

Not by scroll. Not by tournant official reading from a sealed docunt the way the Round 2 bracket had been read. The announcent ca from the arena itself, from the ranking board that had been displaying match results and participant standings since the tournant began, the hollow stone surface shifting from its standard configuration into sothing longer and more detailed than anything it had displayed before.

The twelve remaining participants stood on the arena floor and read it.

[ HOLLOW CONVERGENCE TRIAL — THE FINAL TRIAL ]

[ Format: The Sovereign Field ]

[ Structure: All twelve participants enter simultaneously ]

[ The field generates terrain based on the collective bloodline composition of participants present ]

[ Elimination: Boundary line or submission ]

[ Duration: Until one participant remains or the field collapses ]

[ Bloodline Assessnt: Active throughout — the field reads what participants carry, not what they show ]

[ Character Assessnt: The field records every decision made within it ]

[ Note: The Final Trial has no fixed format. This format was generated this morning. It has not appeared in any previous tournant. ]

The crowd above received this in silence for approximately four seconds and then produced the specific sound of thousands of people recalibrating simultaneously.

Liàng, in the observation platform, opened her third scroll.

Míng Xīn read the board a second ti. Not because he had missed anything. Because the second reading confird what the first reading had told him and he wanted the confirmation to sit properly before he filed it.

The field reads what participants carry, not what they show.

He looked at the board for one more second and then looked at the arena floor and then looked at nothing in particular.

Beside him Kael Sòng read the board with the stillness of soone whose stillness had just beco a different kind of stillness entirely.

Across the formation Hún Yuán'er read it with her gold undertone eyes moving across each line at the pace of soone who read quickly and was choosing to read slowly because the content warranted it. When she reached the bloodline assessnt line sothing in her expression did the small shift it did when she was recalibrating. She did not look at Míng Xīn.

He did not look at her.

They both understood what the board had said.

The secondary objective of concealnt had not ended. It had been ended for them. The field would read what they carried regardless of what they chose to show. The tournant had removed the option.

He felt sothing settle in his chest that was not quite relief and not quite readiness and lived in the space between them. Nine years of patience. Nine years of filing and waiting and managing the output with the careful precision of soone who understood that the mont mattered as much as the capability. The mont was here. Not chosen. Arrived.

He had been ready for so ti.

"System," he said quietly.

[ PRIMORDIAL SOVEREIGN EMPEROR SYSTEM ]

[ The secondary objective of concealnt is hereby concluded. ]

[ Secondary Reward: Skill Absorption unlocked for tournant duration. ]

[ Primary Objective remains active: Place first. ]

[ Note: The field will read both bloodlines simultaneously from the mont you step into it. There is nothing to manage. There is only what you are. ]

[ I have been waiting for this since Chapter 1. ]

[ That is not sothing I am admitting. It is simply a fact being stated. ]

The twelve participants were directed to the entry points around the arena periter. The Sovereign Field format required simultaneous entry from distributed positions, the terrain generation beginning only when all participants had crossed the threshold.

Míng Xīn walked to his entry point.

The arena had been reconfigured overnight. The flat compressed hollow stone floor that had hosted Round 1 and Round 2 was gone, replaced by sothing that was not yet terrain and not yet anything, a field of hollow energy in a state of potential, waiting for the bloodlines that would walk into it and give it shape. It shifted slightly as he approached the threshold. The way water shifted when sothing warm ca near it.

He stopped at the line.

Two entry points away, Hún Yuán'er stood at her threshold. She was looking at the field the sa way he was looking at it. Not at him. At what they were both about to walk into.

Then she looked at him.

He looked back.

Neither of them said anything. There was nothing to say that the next hour would not say more completely.

The tournant official's voice carried across the arena.

"Participants. Enter."

He stepped across the threshold.

The field woke up.

It did not wake up gradually. It woke up the way things woke up that had been waiting rather than sleeping, completely and imdiately, the hollow energy rising from potential into structure with the speed of sothing that had already decided what it was going to be and had been holding the decision until permission arrived. Terrain ford. Not the flat organized space of the earlier rounds. Hills of compressed hollow stone. A central depression that functioned like a natural amphitheater. Corridors of rock that created sight lines and broke others. Spaces of open ground and spaces of close quarters that would force different kinds of fighting in different areas.

And light. Not the standard luminescence of old stone. Sothing more active. The field was reading them. All twelve simultaneously. Their bloodlines registering in the energy of the terrain itself, the specific quality of the light shifting in ways that corresponded to what each participant carried.

Above, in the observation platform, the tournant's classification instrunts activated.

He could hear the change in the crowd's sound when the instrunts began reporting. Not the results yet. Simply the activation. The specific quality of thousands of people becoming more attentive because sothing official was asuring sothing.

He did not look at the instrunts.

He looked at the terrain and began moving.

The first four minutes of the Sovereign Field were orientation. Twelve people learning the shape of a space that had not existed twenty minutes ago, identifying positions, establishing sight lines, making the preliminary calculations that determined how the next hour would develop. Two eliminations happened in the first four minutes, participants from the lower bracket caught in unfavorable terrain by opponents who had oriented faster. The crowd registered both with the acknowledgnt noise and then returned its attention to the participants who remained.

He moved through the field with complete economy.

The Hollow Soul Lineage responded to the field differently than it responded to anywhere else he had been. The terrain had been generated partially by his bloodline. It recognized him the way the clan tree recognized him, from below, the warmth that shifted in sothing vast. The stone under his feet carried a faint pulse that matched his own and he did not file this or analyze it. He simply moved with it.

The Tiān Emperor Vein was doing sothing different.

It had been building since he crossed the threshold. Not pressure. Accumulation. The way a tide accumulated before it reached the shore. He had been managing it for nine years. He was not managing it now. The field had said it would read what he carried and it was reading and he let it read and the Tiān Emperor Vein responded to being read the way it responded to extre monts, with the specific sense of sothing very large deciding to stop pretending to be smaller.

He ca around a rock formation and found Kael Sòng.

They looked at each other.

"Northeast corridor," Kael Sòng said. "Three participants. Two Eternal Courts, one Remnants. The Remnants mber is one of mine. He will not engage directly."

"Southeast open ground," Míng Xīn said. "Rèn Wú. Her lineage has declared."

Kael Sòng's stillness changed quality. "Fully?"

"Enough."

A pause.

"The unknown participant," Kael Sòng said.

"Central depression. He has not moved since entry."

They both understood what that ant.

"Hún Yuán'er," Kael Sòng said.

"Western approach. Moving toward center."

Kael Sòng looked at him for one more second with his steady Remnants eyes and the particular expression of soone who had been thinking seventeen things simultaneously and had just organized them into a sequence.

"Northeast," he said, and went.

Míng Xīn went south.

He found Rèn Wú on the open ground and she found him at the sa mont and they looked at each other across thirty feet of compressed hollow stone with the mutual recognition of two people who had been watching each other since Round 1 and had arrived at this mont fully prepared for it.

Her lineage had declared completely.

He could see it now without ambiguity. The beast bloodline that had been building in her since her first match had finished arriving. It changed the quality of her presence the way a fire changed the quality of a room when it went from ember to fla. She was taller in it. More certain. Her clan marking had extended from her jaw and throat to her collarbone and the dark lines were moving slightly, the living quality of a bloodline that was active rather than dormant.

She was extraordinary.

He filed this with complete honesty and then crossed the thirty feet between them and the match began.

She was fast. Faster than Round 1. Faster than Round 2 from the stands. Her beast lineage gave her movent a quality that was not quite human and not quite beast and lived in the territory between them that was more dangerous than either. She hit with weight that her fra should not have been able to generate and she adjusted between exchanges with the speed of sothing that processed physical information faster than trained cultivators generally did.

He held her completely.

Not dominantly. Cleanly. The specific quality of a match where one participant was exceptional and the other participant was operating in a different register and the difference between those two registers was visible to anyone watching closely enough to see it. He did not use the Tiān Emperor Vein. He did not use the Hollow Soul Lineage beyond the baseline response to the terrain. He used what he had been using for nine years, the accumulated patient intelligence of soone who had been filing patterns since age seven, and it was enough for Rèn Wú and it was enough to spare.

She felt it.

He could see the mont she felt it. The way her eyes changed between the fourth and fifth exchange, the recalibration that was more fundantal than tactical adjustnt, the specific look of soone who had entered a match with an honest assessnt and was discovering the assessnt was wrong not because they had been careless but because the thing they were asuring had not been fully visible until now.

She did not yield.

He respected this without comnting on it.

On the fourteenth exchange he moved her to the boundary of the open ground in a sequence that had been assembling itself since the third exchange, each step placing her one position further along a path she could not see the end of until she was already there, and she hit the boundary marker and the field registered the elimination and she stood at the line with her declared beast lineage and her clan marking moving across her collarbone and looked at him with eyes that were neither angry nor defeated.

asuring.

He nodded once.

She nodded back.

Then she stepped across the boundary and was gone and he was already moving toward the center.

Above, the classification instrunts were producing readings that the crowd was reacting to.

He could hear the quality of the reaction changing.

He did not look up.
