Qingyu Island.
We ntioned before, this world isn’t one whole piece of Mainland, but made up of one island after another.
And the spaces between islands aren’t sothing ordinary people can just sail across.
So most people live their whole life only knowing the affairs of a few cities around them. Plenty of folks don’t even know how big their island is, so simply don’t know they’re on an island at all.
On this island, there’s one city that’s the most famous right now.
Its na is Heaven City!
This Heaven City, strictly speaking, isn’t even called Heaven City for that long. It had two previous nas, first Hun Bai City, then Feikai City.
Given how city nas usually follow whatever urine-nature naming style the City Lord has, you can guess it: this city has switched City Lords three tis.
The whole thing is, well, you can call it complicated, or you can call it simple.
On Qingyu Island, the rules aren’t as strict as on Lu Xiaobu’s island. Cities, sects, even forbidden grounds all bash at each other back and forth.
The original City Lord of Hun Bai City—Wang Hunbai—lost. The city fell, he died, his whole family got sold to the Battle Arena as slaves.
There’s a rule for these slaves: fight a hundred matches. They don’t care whether you win or not; as long as you survive to the end, you get your freedom.
But everyone knows this is just a gimmick.
Leaving aside how the Battle Arena organizers will never allow you to actually complete a hundred matches, just the environnt in there—any minor wound or little illness is enough to kill you seven or eight tis over.
So on this island a custom ford: people love sending the enemy’s family and such into the Battle Arena to make a bit of money.
Wang Hunbai’s son, Wang Tian—who was supposed to have already fallen in battle—was sent into this Battle Arena, along with a whole pile of his household retainers at the level of Gou Qilang and so on.
By rights, that should have been the end of it. Hun Bai City got renad Feikai City, and life went on.
But the weird part is Wang Tian himself.
This guy pulled off a first in history: he actually walked out of the Battle Arena alive.
Not because he finished his hundred matches and was released, but because he fought ninety-nine matches, and just when everyone was focused on whether he’d win or lose the last one, an explosion blew up and killed everyone in the entire Battle Arena.
There were quite a few Golden Core Stage experts inside.
Didn’t matter. Not a single one survived.
Honestly, if it had just been an explosion, then fine, the number of dead wouldn’t even be that shocking!
But there was exactly one person who walked out alive—Wang Hunbai’s son, Wang Tian.
The mont this guy got out, he started recruiting troops, contacting his father’s old subordinates, coordinating inside and outside, plus Wang Tian’s terrifying ability to fight across realms...
He actually counter-killed his way back!
From then on, the freshly renad Feikai City was renad once again—Heaven City!
Look at this string of bizarre events; who wouldn’t pay attention?
If it had ended there, that’d be that. People would gossip for a few days, and with ti it would fade.
But maybe Wang Tian got ntally scarred in the Battle Arena, who knows. The guy kept recruiting, forming alliances left and right.
In no ti, within a hundred miles of Heaven City it was chickens flying, dogs jumping, the whole place in an uproar!
The various Battle Arenas were especially his main targets. He wiped them out one by one the mont he saw them!
People all thought Wang Tian had gone mad!
Of course, they didn’t know, though I’m guessing you already do: this Wang Tian is Lin Feng!
Rember? After that big explosion, he was dragging a body that only had one breath left.
And that body was the real Wang Tian.
Such a beautiful act of Li Tao standing in for the stiff, deceiving the heavens and crossing the sea!
Heaven City.
City Lord Mansion.
"City Lord." A burly man in coarse clothes, with a crippled left leg replaced by a prosthetic, cupped his hands.
"All taken care of?" Wang Tian—also Lin Feng—sat there with a book in hand, reading as he spoke.
Though we know he’s Lin Feng, there wasn’t the slightest trace of Lin Feng’s face on him.
"Yes, the last one has also been dealt with." The big man nodded.
He was actually quite puzzled inside: why did the City Lord want to slaughter all those who had followed his father?
You have to know, those people rendered great service in the city-taking battle.
"Good. You can go." Lin Feng said lightly.
Good. Now there was no one left who knew what the real Wang Tian looked like.
And as the big man had just stepped out the door, a scream rang out—it was his voice.
Next ca a sound like Buzhou Mountain collapsing; the big man’s corpse crashed to the ground, his eyes staring straight at Lin Feng.
He didn’t understand why he also had to die.
Lin Feng closed his book and looked at those staring eyes calmly, without the slightest hint of fear. "Rest in peace."
After that, the corpse was dragged away.
Lin Feng gave a faint smile, dipped his hand into the water in the bronze basin beside him, and patted his face.
Very soon, he peeled off a thin mask.
It was a human-skin mask!
Then he opened a hidden compartnt on the bookshelf beside him and took down the leftmost box. Inside was yet another human-skin mask!
This one was slightly different from the previous one.
The specific difference was that it looked a bit more like Lin Feng himself.
And if you looked carefully at that hidden compartnt, you’d see dozens of identical boxes inside, just like the one in Lin Feng’s hand.
From left to right, each one looked more and more like Lin Feng.
Until the very last, where not a single trace of the original Wang Tian could be seen!
After he finished fussing with it all, he clapped his hands.
"Young Master." A shadow slipped in from the doorway and appeared not far away.
"How are the preparations?" Lin Feng asked casually.
"Everything is ready. As soon as you give the order, we’ll do exactly as you intend!" The man in black replied respectfully.
They were all slaves the City Lord had rescued from various Battle Arenas.
They ford a special unit, separate from the City Guard Army, taking orders only from the City Lord.
What the man in black didn’t know was that the "secret unit" he knew about was only one of several.
Especially that Mountain Village of brutal bandits they’d personally wiped out so ti ago—that was also one of the secret units!
Of course, aside from Lin Feng, no one knew these things.
"Good. Those three City Lords must be getting impatient. I’ll go pay them a visit." Lin Feng said with a faint smile.
After he left, a map was revealed, hanging on the wall.
The map showed four circles and one big circle.
The four circles marked Heaven City, Qi Hai City, Boliu City, and Fu City!
The big circle encompassed the entire area of a hundred-plus kiloters around!
That large circle was the combined sphere of influence of these four cities!
Vaguely, it looked like a giant blood-filled maw, about to swallow this place in one bite, not even leaving the bones!
