Pei Ge could not help but stop to receive a glass of sparkling, yellow champagne from a passing server. She leaned against the bar counter and sipped the wine. The wound on her back was getting much worse to the point that she wanted to whimper.
Sensing her abnormality, Ji Ziming’s sight burrowed through the crowd and at her. Seeing how pale she looked while leaning against the bar counter, a series of alarm bells rang in his head.
“Go take a look at your madam and see how she is doing.”
He ordered in a hushed voice to He Yun, who was beside him.
“Yes, sir.”
His subordinate looked up and also noticed the woman’s abnormality. Her face was pale and there was obvious sweat on her forehead.
Right after saying that, he squeezed through the crowd and reached Pei Ge’s side. He pushed away the annoying women and softly asked, “Madam, are you feeling unwell?”
When he got closer to her, he realized that she was trembling very badly. He was even startled when she spoke.
“I’m fine; don’t worry. Tell your boss to handle those things properly. I only need to rest here for a bit. I’ve walked a lot, and now I am feeling a bit tired.”
After saying this, she slowly pulled out a chair beside her and sat down. Her movements were very slow, but the wound on her back still seemed to tear. The pain was so excruciating that it seemed to hit her bones.
“Hiss!”
She softly hissed in pain. Her face was filled with restraint and forbearance. As she was facing Ji Ziming with her back, he did not notice the pain etched on her face. Otherwise, he would not have let her just rest in the chair alone.
The women around were trying very hard to find their targets. This was a battle between men in terms of career but also a chase using their charm for women. As long as they could find a man which suited their tastes, there would be numerous high-class banquets like this to attend in the future.
Even if they could not snag Ji Ziming, there were still other bachelors to hook up with in the capital.
All these women kept searching for targets. After getting rejected by one, they would move to the next. Still, it was strange because no one dared to approach Ji Ziming. Even Pei Ge was being left alone by the women. It was as though, other than being his, the host of tonight’s banquet, she had no importance, for none of the women even showed her any sense of cordiality.
Seeing that Pei Ge had stopped trembling after she sat down, He Yun returned to his boss’s side and softly reported, “Sir, the madam is fine. She’s only a bit tired from walking.”
“Are you sure?”
The man looked at her figure. He had never seen her give up the chance to seek new work partners for her pany and only sit down alone with a very fatigued look like this.
“I’m sure. Madam only said that she’s feeling tired, but I did see beads of cold sweat peppering her forehead. Is the aircon in the hall too strong?”
The clueless He Yun voiced his conjecture.
Ji Ziming suddenly thought of the wound on the woman’s back, and his heart jumped in fear. He quickly placed the glass of red wine in his hand on the server’s tray, wanting to go over to check Pei Ge’s condition himself.
At this moment, the woman sat in the chair without any energy. She could not even stand up, nor could she turn to look at the man. She also could not muster up the strength to give him a response herself.
The wound on her back was getting worse and more and more painful to the point that it was numbing her senses. The wound had split open like a gorge, and it was about to entirely swallow her sanity, such that she did not even have the energy to scream in pain.
She slumped against the chair, paralyzed and all out of energy. She sank into the soft cushion, and just as she was about to fall to the ground, a pair of large hands caught her. However, as these hands touched her body, the woman, who was about to lose her consciousness, gasped in pain.
Her gasp was so soft, but it still hurt Ji Ziming’s heart when he heard it.
His entire person was rigid as he looked at the woman before him. His heart broke, and he blamed himself for leaving her here alone.
“Sir, Madam…”
He Yun followed him here. The former noticed how pale the woman’s face was—much worse than what he had seen previously—how lifeless she was as she lay in his arms.
“Go get the doctor! Hurry!”
He growled, and the staff around them, be they men or women, rushed over in an orderly manner, awaiting his orders, as though they had rehearsed this.
Ji Ziming had not expected Pei Ge to bee like this. His heart and mind were in disarray. After rationally ordering the staff what to do, he carried her out of the hall.
As his arm touched her wound, she whimpered very softly. Still, her voice was all that echoed in his ears. He could not hear any of the motion around him, and only her voice and her soft cry reached his ears.
Along with her scarily pale face was the frightening drop in her temperature. He could only hurry and bring her upstairs to the presidential suite. He could not bear to lose her another time. It was worse than killing him. What pained and gnawed at him more was that he had no way of helping her with the pain she was suffering right now.
If possible, I am willing to suffer all the pain you are feeling now. Only because I love you. Only because I can’t lose you.
The ice-coldness in his eyes stunned everyone around him. Only Qu Jingwan, who was not far from them, was very calm, as though she had known that this would happen. Hence, the doubt in his heart grew.
However, because of what Pei Ge had told him before, he wavered a little inside.Who exactly was the one behind all these? He would definitely find that person one day. He would never not let off that person who had dared to hurt his woman. He would not even give that person a chance to beg for forgiveness.
“Sir, we will stay here and calm the guests. Please bring the madam upstairs quickly.”
The head of the waiters and waitress had a somber look as the person reassured him. “Madam will be fine; I have the list of guests who are here today. I will send it over to you later.”
“Yes.”
Ji Ziming’s voice was very cold and apathetic. No one could stop him from doing what he wanted, and it seemed that the person who had dared to hurt his woman did not have many days left.
“Sir, please hurry up. Manager He has already gone to get the doctor. The doctor is in this hotel. He will be there when you have reached upstairs.”
The head of the staff was very calm. Having handled such a gathering many times before, he had already considered all fronts for Ji Ziming.
