Ning Shu said irritably, “How should I know?”

These days, mon folk were spreading rumors that Zhuo Cheran was some kind of deity descended to the mortal world, who was capable of wielding magic.

They claimed he could kill with just a pitch-black object in his hand.

The stories had gotten more and more ridiculous.

Privately, Ning Shu found it amusing. Both Yin Qing and Zhuo Cheran should really be thanking her.

As for Zhuo Cheran, there was no question of it. Now that he had these divine weapons, he was unbeatable. He could probably start a rebellion if he wanted. At this point, Zhuo Cheran was likely under the watchful eye of the entire realm, and the emperor himself was surely eyeing those weapons in his hands.

Yin Qing should be grateful, too. Truth be told, she was now in a situation where it was impossible to back down. Her supplies were running low, and if those weapons were exposed, it would be seen as training private troops—an offense that could cost her her life.

If they were discovered, she’d be forced to defend herself, and once the bullets ran out, she’d be at the mercy of others.

Now that Ning Shu had handed the weapons she’d stolen to Zhuo Cheran—under the name of Gu Fanlu, who was already dead—there was no way to trace their origins. If Zhuo Cheran wanted answers, he’d have to ask the dead.

In the letter she’d sent to Zhuo Cheran, Ning Shu had even detailed how to use the guns. She thought she’d been incredibly considerate.

If Yin Qing had any sense, she would distance herself from all this. She could claim that the gun she gave to Zhuo Cheran was also passed to her by someone else.

In the original storyline, Yin Qing had been able to keep herself safe because she continuously supplied increasingly powerful modern weapons—military-grade binoculars, bombs, and tanks.

With that kind of power, she was practically invincible, and no one dared provoke her.

But now, the bridge between her and those weapons was gone. She could no longer bring out anything more formidable to shock and awe the others. It left her in a terribly awkward position. She was now unable to advance and also unable to retreat.

Ning Shu hummed a little tune to herself, guessing that even the high-and-mighty emperor must be both intrigued by and wary of this so-called divine weapon.

Although he had suppressed the rebellion, he couldn’t possibly still have many bullets left. After all, there had only been half a small crate of them, and they’d surely be used up soon, especially since they were inexperienced. Just touching a gun didn’t make one a sharpshooter. Wasting bullets was inevitable.

All in all, while the equipment looked impressive, it was not nearly as powerful as it seemed. Without bullets, it was pletely useless, and now it had drawn attention and suspicion from all sides.

It seemed Zhuo Cheran had failed to keep the situation under control and had gone ahead and used the weapons anyway.

As a woman confined to the rear courtyard, Ning Shu couldn’t confront Zhuo Cheran directly. She had to take a roundabout approach and leverage power from different sources.

In contrast to Ning Shu’s relaxed and carefree demeanor, Yin Qing was visibly flustered. The moment she heard that Zhuo Cheran’s army had used the ‘divine weapons’, her heart sank.

Her first instinct told her it had to be guns, but she had only ever given Zhuo Cheran one for self-defence. How had so many appeared?

Yin Qing rushed back to the manor in a panic. She went to the cave, dug through the soil, and discovered that only the fur was left. The munitions, once wrapped in fur and dried grass, had all vanished. Not even a single bullet remained.

Yin Qing had always thought she’d hidden them well. How had someone found them? Was it someone in the manor?

Or someone close to Zhuo Cheran who had followed her and discovered the location?

So then, had Zhuo Cheran approached her purely for the sake of getting those guns?

And when exactly had he learned she possessed them?

What about her bracelet? Had that ended up in Zhuo Cheran’s hands, too?
