As expected, just as Ye Qiu anticipated, Xie Lizzi truly questioned her foster mother, because she received a call from her foster mother, Lu i Juan, as soon as she returned.

"What on earth did you do? Why did Lady Xie call saying that I deceived her? Why did she say she would cancel ng’er’s future position at Xie Group? Why did she say she would let your dad lose his job? How did you offend Lady Xie? Didn’t I tell you not to compete with her, didn’t I say to stay away from her when you see her?"

Ye Qiu hadn’t even spoken yet; she had just picked up the call, and her foster mother Lu i Juan ranted on unceremoniously, her tone was completely like giving orders, without a trace of emotion, as if Ye Qiu was her slave maid, who had to listen to her.

Ye Qiu remained expressionless, her eyes full of mockery, she just let the phone ring like this without opening her mouth.

Lu i Juan, finally realizing that Ye Qiu hadn’t responded, burst out: "Are you deaf? I’m talking to you, all these years of study for what? If I knew you would be so ungrateful now, I wouldn’t have adopted you back then."

"Did I beg you to adopt ?" Ye Qiu replied lightly.

"What did you say?" Lu i Juan’s voice suddenly soared, unable to believe these words were from Ye Qiu’s mouth, was she hallucinating?

But the reality made her desperate, as Ye Qiu said again: "Did I beg you to adopt back then?"

Lu i Juan’s chest heaved violently, Ye Qiu could hear her breathing deeply from the other end, she sneered: "Don’t get so angry that you give yourself a heart attack, and bla it on later, I can’t bear that responsibility."

"Ye Qiu, you took the wrong dicine today? How dare you speak to like that? Do you know what you’re saying?" Lu i Juan’s voice was particularly sharp, even without seeing, Ye Qiu could tell she must be fuming, her hair bristling, her forehead veins bulging, eyebrows furrowed tightly, eyes wishing they could devour soone.

"If you couldn’t hear clearly, I’ll say it again, I said I didn’t beg you back then to adopt , and you haven’t truly cared for all these years, so you really don’t need to keep reminding of your kindness, I don’t need it." Ye Qiu spoke these few sentences very slowly, articulating each word clearly, leaving no chance for Lu i Juan to mishear.

Because she could hear too clearly, and Ye Qiu’s tone was too firm and justified, Lu i Juan grew even angrier.

She shouted: "If it wasn’t for adopting you back then, who knows what kind of life you’d be living, it’s thanks to and your dad you’ve grown up healthy, you’ve managed to graduate university smoothly, and now you grow up not recognizing kindness? Not being blood-related sure makes you cruel, I’ll go to your school and see how your teachers have been educating you."

"Threatening again? Do you think I still buy your ways?" Ye Qiu sneered, "Let’s be frank, if you hadn’t adopted , I’d have had a better life even in an orphanage than in your hands. Healthy? How many tis did I endure sickness myself? Smoothly finished university? Elentary and middle school were compulsory education, for high school and university I never asked you for a cent in tuition, on the contrary, these years I’ve given you a lot of money, the heartless ones aren’t , it’s you."

"You..." Lu i Juan was at a loss for words, feeling extrely angry, but also a bit afraid and guilty, realizing her foster daughter might not be under her control anymore.

How could this be? The foster daughter just graduated, this is the ti to make money, and she wants to turn against the family now? In her dreams!

But hearing her foster daughter’s obvious resentnt towards the family now shows she must change her approach.

"I had no choice before," Lu i Juan’s voice softened, laced with grievance and helplessness, "I was strict with you for your own good, we adopted you, and since childhood, you’ve been sensitive, if your dad and I weren’t strict, how would you be motivated to work hard?"

"Oh?" Is it that I’m being unreasonable? Ye Qiu retorted.

Lu i Juan sighed deeply: "You’re still young, it’s normal you don’t understand, but you just need to know it’s all for your own good, look, now you’ve graduated from a prestigious university, your future is bright, all thanks to your dad and being strict with you back then."

"Oh, you make it sound so noble, then why weren’t you strict with Ye ng?"

Hearing Ye Qiu’s sarcastic tone, Lu i Juan held back, forcing a smile: "You’re a high achiever; you should know different people require different educational thods, your sister is different from you."

"So her education failed, no wonder she’s so inconsiderate!" Ye Qiu quickly interjected.

"You..." Lu i Juan choked again, unwilling to admit her biological daughter wasn’t excellent, but to rebut would just push Ye Qiu further away.

Though reluctant, Lu i Juan had to admit Ye Qiu was indeed useful to the family, helping with chores and babysitting as a child, now grown up, ready to earn money, she even hoped to use Ye Qiu’s monthly salary to buy a house for her daughter! So turning against her now wasn’t an option.

Especially since Xie Lizzi just called saying Ye Qiu had flipped again, if she couldn’t control the situation, there’d be trouble, so she had to patiently appease her first.

"Yeah, your sister isn’t as good as you now, so you can see how well your dad and I treated you!" Lu i Juan forced out a laugh.

"Then Mom, you shouldn’t be obliging to my sister’s every whim anymore, it’s not too late to be strict now, stop giving her living expenses, let her earn it herself, don’t buy clothes and shoes for her, why should a student dress so nicely? Aren’t you afraid of attracting the wrong crowd? Even if not, fostering a vain nature isn’t good." Ye Qiu took this opportunity to say, knowing that Lu i Juan would feel uncomfortable, but their discomfort would bring her comfort.

"No way, your sister is used to this lifestyle, a sudden change would be unsettling, I’ll teach her gradually in the future, you’re busy with studies and work, no need to worry." Lu i Juan stiffly responded.

"Mom, you’re just too soft-hearted, rember how you showed no rcy educating , are my aunt’s words true that there’s a difference between biological and adopted children?" Ye Qiu feigned an innocent tone.

"How could that be? You don’t know how much your dad and I liked you when we first brought you ho, don’t listen to your big-mouthed aunt," Lu i Juan hastily anded, blaming her sister for ddling.

Ye Qiu sighed inwardly, maybe Lu i Juan was genuinely kind for a few days to her original self when she was first adopted, and that’s why she suffered a lifeti of tornt, but those few days weren’t worth repaying with a lifeti because their kindness always ca with strings attached.
