At seven in the evening, the family dressed extravagantly and headed out, not only Ye Yuejin and Jiang Xiuqing as a couple, but even Grandma Han i’e wore her nephrite jade bracelet.
"Are they here yet?" Li Wen Yin observed from the doorway, her face full of excitent.
"Wenyin, congratulations." Liu Lihua said with a smile, "I heard that the child’s adoptive parents treat her well."
Li Wen Yin nodded with a smile: "A stroke of luck in misfortune, that family are all good people, treating Qiu’er as their own daughter."
"Surely good people have good fortune. You were good to Jingshu, and others are good to your daughter."
Li Wen Yin smiled without responding; she had been good to Jingshu before because she didn’t know she was not her biological daughter. Even though she knew, she would still treat her well, but probably wouldn’t devote herself to her entirely as before!
Today’s banquet was lively. After learning that the real Eldest Lady of the Shen Family was soone else, most people kept looking towards the entrance, eager to see the real daughter of the Shen Family.
So others looked gleefully at Shen Jingshu, thinking: despite her usual noble pretense, she turned out to be an impostor. Now the true Eldest Lady of the Shen Family is returning, isn’t she going to step down quickly?
"Oh my, isn’t this our holiest Miss Shen? Why are you dressed so plainly today?" a brightly dressed girl spoke mockingly.
Actually, Shen Jingshu’s outfit wasn’t plain today; she wore her usual favorite white dress with no other adornnts but a pearl necklace and a pair of pearl earrings, and with light makeup, she looked as noble as a Goddess. However, it’s inevitable that pearls aren’t as valuable as diamonds or gemstones, giving those usually at odds with her so fuel.
"Ah Li, you might not know, Shen Jingshu is not Miss Shen of the Shen family anymore." another girl chid in.
"Enough, why bother with her? An orphanage child, is she worth your effort to taunt? Whether she can appear in such occasions in the future is uncertain." The last girl’s words seed indifferent but were actually the sharpest.
The other two girls imdiately laughed, "You shouldn’t say that. After all, she’s still Shen Family’s foster daughter; Shen Family wouldn’t ignore her for the sake of its reputation."
"Even if they do care about her, she’s just an adopted daughter; can she inherit Shen Family’s property? Can she compare to Shen Family’s biological daughter?"
Shen Jingshu, with a cold face, was about to walk away, but the three seed intent on teasing her, blocking her path step by step.
"Please step aside," she said, her tone icy.
"Oh, such a temper, huh? I advise you, it’s good to know one’s place."
"It’s you who should know your place. This is Shen Family’s banquet, not where you should act recklessly. Or do you think Uncle Shen and Aunt Li wouldn’t mind you bullying the daughter they raised for over a decade?" Song Tianji stood by Shen Jingshu’s side, his face expressionless yet intimidating those three girls.
"Tianji brother, you’re helping her?" one pretty young girl asked incredulously.
"Who’s your brother?" Song Tianji said coldly, "Don’t let see you bullying anyone anymore, or I won’t be so polite."
The three girls felt disgraced, glared at Shen Jingshu with hatred, reluctantly walked away.
"Are you okay?" Song Tianji asked her with concern.
Shen Jingshu shook her head: "I’m fine," but her face showed her disappointnt and stubbornness.
"Don’t listen to their nonsense. Regardless of whether you’re Shen Family’s biological daughter or not, Uncle Shen and Aunt Li won’t ignore you."
"I know, thank you, Tianji brother."
"No need to thank." Song Tianji affectionately rubbed her head, a look of gentleness on his face.
So observant guests changed their expressions upon seeing this, it seems Shen Jingshu indeed won favor with Song Tianji. There’s a rumor that Shen Family and Song Family have thoughts of proposing marriage between them, which might be true.
Shen Jing’an, who had been watching Shen Jingshu, paused upon seeing Song Tianji’s actions. They were the rightful pair; what was his presence even worth? It would only deepen Jingshu’s troubles!
Shen Jing’an smiled bitterly, determinedly stopped looking at Shen Jingshu, and put on a smile to greet guests.
anwhile, Shen Jingshu was searching for Shen Jing’an’s figure. Seeing him calmly greeting others, unaware of the disturbances on her side, she felt even more disappointed; perhaps she should really let go.
"Tianji brother, what have you been up to? I’m having a small recital next week, would you co to support?" she asked with a smile.
Song Tianji hesitated, because he had intended to keep a distance from Jingshu in this lifeti. But seeing her pleading eyes and noticing the surrounding attention, he softened.
He thought, just this once; when Shen Jing’an and Jingshu reconcile, he’d no longer get involved. Perhaps he could bring Ye Qiu along, so she wouldn’t misunderstand.
Song Tianji felt his idea was perfect, thus nodded in agreent.
"Thank you, Tianji brother," Shen Jingshu breathed a sigh of relief.
anwhile, Shen Jing’an nearly crushed the glass in his hand, watching the two laughing and chatting with wine.
"They’re here, they’re here," Li Wen Yin said excitedly, seeing a familiar car at the door.
Everyone followed her gaze, only to see a luxurious, extended luxury car driving in, astonished.
"Wenyin, did you arrange for this car?"
"No, it’s Qiu’er’s adoptive parents who bought it themselves," Li Wen Yin, knowing what everyone was wondering, pretended to say casually, "Both husband and wife are capable people, having been nad outstanding entrepreneurs in neighboring F Province for several years in a row!"
"Really now, hard to believe rich families nowadays are fond of adopting other people’s children!" a noblewoman exclaid in surprise.
"Say less," the person beside her nudged, quickly added with a smile, "And it shows our Wenyin’s daughter is truly blessed."
"Isn’t it? If not blessed, how could they recognize each other at a glance despite being separated for over ten years?" Liu Lihua said, smoothing things over, her attention also fixed on the slowly approaching car.
First off the car ca a tall and handso young man, though not quite as good-looking as one’s own child, with an added sense of charisma.
"That’s Qiu’er’s elder brother, now managing the Ye Family’s company. It’s said he’s increased the company’s profits significantly in just two short years." Li Wen Yin explained with a smile.
"Truly seems young and promising."
Then ca a Middle-aged Man, impeccably dressed in a valuable suit with a grand watch, looking at the crowd with an air that impressed so people.
