Jiang Yu had no choice in the matter because Jiang Lai had a habit of passing difficult problems onto others to solve.

"Before going down the mountain, if you have money, pay up; if not, hurry up and write an IOU, or this note will soon end up in the hands of soone you don’t want to know about it."

Jiang Lai was blackmailing, completely indifferent to what others might think.

The Ninth Princess was relatively unaffected; she could manage her share of three hundred taels of gold, but Xu Ruling and Jiang Yu were thoroughly shocked and disoriented.

Especially Jiang Yu.

She had planned to use the money she won from Jiang Lai to repay the debt to Xu Ruling. Now, not only could she not fill one hole, but she found another, even bigger one.

As sisters, Jiang Lai showed her no familial affection, and after gaining power, she beca even more arrogant and detestable.

The Ninth Princess was sowhat better off; as a princess, she received plenty of rewards and could gather her share, but no one wanted to lose so much money for no reason. Originally, they wanted to use Jiang Yu to suppress Jiang Lai’s pride, but now, they’ve only boosted Jiang Lai’s prestige while losing a great deal of money.

Because of this, she couldn’t deal with Jiang Lai and began to look at Jiang Yu with disfavor, believing it was Jiang Yu’s last-minute actions that led to losing face and status.

The IOUs were written and stamped, each owing three hundred thirty-three taels of gold.

The Ninth Princess rode away before the Emperor arrived, her whip cracking loudly.

Xu Ruling stared at Jiang Yu, only able to feel panic and helplessness, regretting borrowing money to Jiang Yu, knowing full well Jiang Yu couldn’t possibly pay it back now.

Recalling the old lady’s words, Xu Ruling anxiously followed Jiang Yu, asking.

"The Marquis Mansion is so large, surely you kept so silver for ergencies?"

"Sister Yu, I’ve been closest to you since arriving in the Capital City, lending you money without question, and you know my situation. If I can’t pay, I’ll be thrown out."

The Capital City was so wonderful, she didn’t want to leave.

Even if she had to leave, she couldn’t upset the old lady since her future fate was still in her hands.

"Sister Yu, please say sothing. I’m in debt because of you. Surely you can’t expect to repay all this money?"

Xu Ruling’s constant nagging finally pushed Jiang Yu over the edge, her eyes red and voice hoarse.

"I will pay back what I owe you. Instead of pestering , why don’t you think about the marriage proposal you asked for? What, is a good marriage not worth more than a few thousand taels of silver?"

Hearing about the marriage, Xu Ruling beca even more anxious.

"But how can you help in your current state..."

"What’s wrong with ? Am I crippled or stupid? I’m still Jiang Yu, with many noble young n eager to befriend . I can still secure you a good marriage."

Xu Ruling had doubts but was out of options.

"Alright then, let’s set the marriage aside for now. Hurry and gather so money. Jiang Lai isn’t as easy to fool as I am."

Xu Ruling wasn’t foolish; she doubted those noble young n still wanted anything to do with Jiang Yu. They would likely avoid her.

She could only stay close to Jiang Yu, who, if she still wanted to save face, had to find a way to gather the money.

A dead cal is still larger than a horse; she refused to believe that the Marquis Mansion couldn’t co up with the money.

After the spring hunt, Jiang Lai returned triumphant, with three IOUs and plenty of rewards.

The most precious gift was a jade token bestowed by the Emperor, intricately carved with plum blossom patterns.

Jiang Lai gave the jade token to Tie Yi.

"I don’t have anything good for you, so take this as our token of affection."

Tie Yi took the jade token, feeling it in his hand, and then looked seriously at Jiang Lai.

"Do you still bla for what happened before?"

What happened before?

Jiang Lai thought for a mont, probably referring to the incident when he imdiately went to the military camp the night they got married.

"Why would I bla you? You didn’t know or like at first, and if you had co to the bridal chamber, I’d have thought less of you."

Jiang Lai’s magnanimity left Tie Yi feeling slightly embarrassed.

"When we return, I’ll give you a grand ceremony."

"No need."

Jiang Lai refused without hesitation.

She didn’t care for such ostentations and didn’t need Tie Yi to prove his love with such gestures. She could feel if he truly liked her without them.

Since that was the case, there was no need for more trouble—a wedding was tiring enough; Jiang Lai didn’t want to go through it again.

"Don’t look at like that. I’m not saying this out of spite. We just need to live happily. If you feel guilty, you can do a favor."

Tie Yi imdiately nodded without hesitating.

"Alright, tell , I’ll agree to anything."

"Would you agree if I asked you to let toy with the Tiger Talisman?"

Tie Yi hesitated.

"The Tiger Talisman isn’t with , and there’s nothing fun about it. But if you’re curious, I’ll take you to the military camp tonight."

He seriously agreed.

Jiang Lai laughed, reaching out to pat his forehead.

"You’re silly, couldn’t you tell I was joking? I want you to find the Minister of the Ministry of Justice for ."

"Are you still concerned for the Marquis Mansion?"

He thought Jiang Lai had given up on that place.

Jiang Lai nodded.

"Of course, how could I not be? The Marquis Mansion still stands there, bothering every ti I think about it."

"What do you plan to do?"

"You’ll see when the ti cos. Just do as I say."

Without needing to think, Jiang Lai knew Madam Zhao and Jiang Yu were likely plotting their revenge.

She was never one to sit and wait for doom, preferring to strike proactively.

The next day, the still-sleeping Marquis Mansion was surrounded by governnt officials, personally led by the Junior Minister of the Ministry of Justice, who took the Marquis, Madam, Jiang Yu, and others away.

Madam Zhao was left behind, chasing after them with cries and demands, only to be shoved to the ground by the soldiers.

The Junior Minister of the Ministry of Justice coldly remarked at her disheveled state.

"This is a grave matter; outsiders should stay away to avoid getting burned."

Madam Zhao was clueless about the situation, while the other concubines huddled together, trembling and discussing.

"I just heard that sothing happened to Madam’s family, so we were spared."

"No wonder they only took their family, what are you waiting for? Pack up and run, the Marquis Mansion is dood."

Soone started, and everyone rushed to pack their things.
