The Second Elder responded and then withdrew.

Though Sect Master Leng acted promptly, he did not anticipate that upon his cessation, there was still a maid of Lady Leng’s planted by Leng Yiyu’s side.
The maid, upon hearing the news, turned around and directly relayed the ssage to Lady Leng.
Hearing that her son might still be alive, Lady Leng was naturally unsettled. She had many thoughts, including why Leng Ye would conceal their living son from her, and how a person presud dead could still be alive.
She had watched Leng Yikun’s final breaths herself, and when he stopped breathing, she had checked his pulse to confirm he was truly without a breath of life.
Now, a ssage suggested that her son might actually be alive.
“Did the young miss tell you this?”
Her eyes shimring coldly, she stared at the maid and asked in a chilly tone.
“Yes, madam. I heard the young miss say it myself. She even wanted to spread this news to you, but for so reason, all those people disappeared early this morning. Therefore, I ca to report to you imdiately,” the maid replied, shrinking her neck subtly.
She was quite afraid of Lady Leng and preferred not to encounter her regularly. At the sa ti, she knew the consequences of withholding such significant news from Lady Leng would not be in her favor.
Even if she considered pretending she knew nothing at all.
But even if she could feign ignorance, once the news broke out, her unawareness of such a matter would be a grave offense to Lady Leng who had placed her by the young miss’s side precisely to monitor her every move.
Lady Leng took a deep breath upon hearing the maid’s words.

“Governess, do you think Yikun is really still alive?” she asked softly.
Upon hearing this, the governess was uncertain of what to say, as if anything she could say would be inappropriate.
If she confird the death of Young Sect Master Yikun, it would touch a raw nerve with Lady Leng and might result in rebuke. After all, given such a piece of news, it’s better to believe than to doubt its veracity.
If she uttered the stark truth, in Lady Leng’s eyes, it would be tantamount to cursing Young Sect Master Yikun.
And yet, if she claid that Young Sect Master Yikun was still alive, wouldn’t that be a blatant lie? She had been with Lady Leng all day when Young Sect Master Yikun drew his last breath; she had witnessed it too.
How could a person who had died still be alive? She was reluctant to believe it.
