Thomas Fisher didn’t say anything more, focusing instead on his breakfast. He wasn’t afraid of being late to the office himself but was worried that she would be late and, more importantly, upset because of it.
Although she wasn’t a petty person, she took her work very seriously. If she was late because of him, there was a good chance she would get angry.
Thomas quickly finished the porridge in his bowl and, once satisfied, pulled Alice Turner along as they headed out the door.
It was the morning rush hour, and the elevator was already crowded.
Concerned that there might be people who knew Thomas, Alice struggled to withdraw her hand from his grasp, but he refused to release it, holding her hand firmly.
She glanced discreetly at the people around them and it seed there was no one who knew him. Her anxious heart gradually settled, though she still didn’t let her guard down completely.
It wasn’t until they left the elevator, walked out of the building, and got into the car that Alice finally relaxed. As soon as she settled into her seat, she began to lecture Thomas, "You can’t do this anymore. It wouldn’t be good if soone we know saw us."
She wasn’t saying he shouldn’t hold her hand. Given their current situation, it was wiser to keep a low profile. She could take being gossiped about; that was her own doing. But she didn’t want to see him being talked about either.
"Why wouldn’t it be good? We are openly in love," Thomas genuinely didn’t feel there was anything secretive about him and Alice being together. Their love was sincere, and her marriage to Benjamin Shaw’s brother was entirely due to family pressure; moreover, she and Benjamin’s brother had no feelings for each other.
Openly?
While they were indeed in love, it wasn’t open.
Alice Turner’s view differed slightly from Thomas Fisher’s. She thought their love couldn’t be brought to light at the mont. Although they were in love, there was definitely going to be gossip about them.
At that mont, Alice secretly made up her mind to divorce Benjamin Shaw as soon as possible, striving for the day they could stand openly in the sunlight.
She couldn’t let him be labeled as a third party; it wouldn’t be fair to him or to their love.
"We are both really great."
She didn’t refute his words or explain further. She just looked at him and repeated what he said—they were both really great.
"Let’s go!"
Alice waved her hand, signaling Thomas to start the car. Her face was now brimming with smiles, and the gloomy expression had long vanished.
Seeing her mood turn from cloudy to clear, his spirits lifted instantly. He smiled at her, started the engine, and drove away.
Throughout the drive, neither of them uttered any disheartening or disappointing words. They chatted about cheerful topics, and their joyous laughter filled the car.
Alice didn’t ask to stop early, nor did Thomas instinctively pull over for her. He only stopped the car when he reached the company entrance.
"Are you leaving the car for now and taking a taxi to work, or will you co around again at noon?" Before getting off, she discussed the arrangent concerning her car with him.
"I’ll co pick you up in the afternoon."
Thomas didn’t choose to leave the car now, nor did he opt to bring it back at noon. He had his own plan—to drive her car to pick her up and go ho together in the evening.
He believed his plan was perfect; it allowed him to pick her up without missing their dinner together.
