As Lily Turner anticipated, Sophia Wood did call her for sothing, but she wouldn’t tell her over the phone.
"Co ho tonight, I have sothing to discuss with you." Sophia didn’t specify what it was, just vaguely ntioned she needed to talk.
"Tonight?"
Tonight, Easton Hols was supposed to take her to a party, and Lily suddenly felt conflicted. She had already promised him, so would it be inappropriate to also promise her mom?
"What? You’re not free tonight?" Even over the phone, Sophia clearly caught Lily’s hesitation.
"Yeah, I really do have plans tonight." Lily didn’t hide it from her mom on the other end, speaking honestly, "Mom, can it wait until tomorrow?"
She asked with little confidence and wasn’t holding out much hope.
Just as Lily expected, Sophia didn’t give her any leeway and firmly refused, "Your plans can wait, tonight’s family matters are very important."
The emphasis on "very important" was strong, highlighting the significance of the matter.
"I..."
"It’s settled then, you must be ho by six tonight."
After Sophia firmly stated this, she hung up abruptly, leaving Lily with no chance to speak further and without an opportunity to reply.
What could be so urgent? Not even giving her a chance to explain.
Staring at the now black screen, Lily felt vexed and scratched her head.
She had been sleepy earlier, but now she was wide awake, holding the phone as she sat up from the sofa.
After hesitating for a while, Lily finally took the risk of being scolded and quickly edited a text ssage to Easton Hols.
"My mom needs for sothing tonight, so I can’t go to the party with you. Don’t have anyone bring dinner either, and if it’s too late, I’ll just stay at ho tonight."
Lily didn’t receive any response or phone call from Easton for a long ti, making her more anxious. She couldn’t tell if he was too busy to check his phone or if he was upset with her.
Even as she got ready to leave in the afternoon, Lily still hadn’t received any ssages from Easton. Before leaving, she edited another text ssage to him.
"I’m sorry! I know I’m in the wrong, please don’t take it to heart, I’m going back."
Lily put her phone inside her bag, took out her sunglasses, and only then did she leave in peace.
At the entrance to the Military District Compound, she hailed a taxi and hurried ho.
Just as she was approaching the house, her phone suddenly rang from her bag. Her first thought was Easton was calling, and she quickly grabbed the phone without thinking too much.
Indeed, it was a call from him after a whole afternoon of silence. Taking a deep breath, she answered the call.
"Hello!" After greeting, she quietly waited for a response from the other end.
"Where are you now?"
Easton’s voice sounded calm, and from his tone, it seed he wasn’t angry, but Lily wasn’t sure if he truly wasn’t mad.
Looking at her own front yard’s gate, Lily replied, "I’m already at my doorstep."
