"You’ve raised a wonderful daughter!"
After the four of them sat down on the sofa, Callix Linton was the first to break the sowhat awkward silence. As soon as he opened his mouth, he began praising Lily Turner to Sophia Wood, "This girl is sensible, kind, and very considerate."
Pausing for a mont, he then continued, "You’ve done a terrific job raising her."
After complinting Lily Turner, Mr. Linton did not forget to praise Sophia Wood as well.
Whether praising the daughter or the mother, he was sincere, without a hint of insincerity or any ulterior motives.
Sophia Wood was not blind; how could she not see Callix Linton’s sincerity? She smiled, though it was a slightly awkward smile, "She’s not as good as you say, you flatter us."
The daughter was so domineering, yet the father was so gentle and kind.
"I’m just speaking the truth; this girl is even better than I’ve described." Callix Linton noticed the awkwardness in Sophia Wood’s smile, which further confird his earlier suspicions. He was determined to get to the bottom of things today.
Upon hearing this, Alice Turner secretly tugged at Lily Turner’s sleeve. When Lily turned to look at her, she discreetly gave her sister a thumbs up.
Listening to Callix Linton’s praise of her, Lily Turner was already quite embarrassed, and seeing Alice give her a thumbs up made her even more so.
When the other two were not paying attention, she pressed down Alice’s thumbs up.
With her daughter constantly being praised by others, Sophia Wood felt especially happy as a mother. However, thinking about her daughter’s complicated ties with the Taylor Family, she couldn’t stay happy for long.
"Thank you!"
Regardless of whether she was happy or not, Sophia Wood politely responded with a thank you.
Callix Linton didn’t continue exchanging pleasantries with Sophia Wood, but instead shifted the topic to Easton Hols and Lily Turner’s wedding, "I heard from Easton’s uncle that you only asked for a dowry of 100,001. That’s quite modest."
When he heard that last night, he indeed felt that the dowry was modest, but he found the symbolism quite pleasing: one in a million; he liked it very much.
"Wasn’t the wedding decided by Easton’s uncle? Is he here now? I have sothing I’d like to discuss with him." Sophia Wood didn’t follow Callix Linton’s topic; instead, she inquired about Michael Linton. She was eager to find him today to discuss so matters.
She had been in the house for quite so ti but hadn’t seen that man, so she figured he must not be ho, but the old man surely knew where he was.
Hearing this, not only Callix Linton but also Alice Turner, who ca with Sophia Wood, was greatly surprised and puzzled. She had always thought her mother had an urgent matter with her sister, not expecting that she ca to find her sister’s uncle-in-law.
Want to discuss sothing with him? What could it be?
Hadn’t Mr. Linton already implied that everything was settled? Why still find the uncle to discuss again? Could it be she’s changing her mind?
The dowry has already been agreed on, and changing now wouldn’t be very good.
Even though Callix Linton felt surprised and puzzled, he remained calm and composed, "You can tell if you need anything. I can handle everything concerning the wedding for Easton."
Mr. Linton thought Sophia Wood might have so additional conditions. As long as they were reasonable and lawful, he felt entirely willing to et them.
