Alice Turner heard the impatience in Benjamin Shaw’s voice, but she continued to sit motionless on the stone bench, indifferent to his honking.
Seeing Alice ignoring him, Benjamin didn’t honk again. He released the brake, stepped on the gas, and quickly drove back onto the road.
As Benjamin’s car drove away, Alice withdrew her gaze and took out her phone from her bag. She glanced at the ti, noting there was still so ti before the hour she had set for herself.
She suddenly felt hesitant, unsure whether to keep sitting here and waiting or to call a cab and leave.
Alice held her phone, thinking it over for a long ti, and finally decided to keep waiting. She couldn’t just leave after asking soone to et her; it wouldn’t be right.
To pass the ti, Alice browsed the internet on her phone, when she suddenly rembered what Sophia Wood had told her that afternoon.
She closed the webpage she had just opened and dialed the number of the house phone.
"Hello! Who is this?"
After a few rings, Aunt Li picked up.
"Hello! I’m Lily’s sister, Alice. Is Lily at ho? If she is, could you please have her co to the phone?" Alice wasn’t sure if Lily was ho. Ah! Without a phone, it’s really inconvenient for her sister.
These days, she felt quite uneasy when trying to contact her sister. She couldn’t always call her brother-in-law’s phone to get through, as he was a very busy person.
"She’s here, please hold on!"
Through the phone, Alice heard footsteps, growing fainter as they moved away, but soon, she heard footsteps approaching again.
She could tell that these footsteps were different from before; her sister had co.
The voice that followed confird Alice’s hunch, "Sis!"
Lily Turner’s affectionate voice ca through the phone, bringing a quick smile to Alice’s face, "What are you doing at ho?"
Alice didn’t call just to chat, but she couldn’t bring up that matter right away; she needed to understand her sister’s situation first.
"I’m having dinner now, have you eaten?" Lily was really happy to receive her sister’s call. As soon as Aunt Li ntioned her sister was calling, she put down her chopsticks and ca over.
Upon hearing that her sister was eating, Alice imdiately dismissed the thought of ntioning that matter, "I just ate, you should hurry and eat too. I don’t have anything urgent, just felt like calling you out of boredom."
Her sister was in a special period now, and eating was more important than anything else for her sister. Alice couldn’t interrupt her sister’s al.
"Are you really just bored?" Lily was sowhat doubtful, with more suspicion than belief, thinking her sister might have sothing to tell her.
Through the phone, Alice could detect her sister’s doubt, and quickly reassured her, "Yes, I’m really just bored and called you. Go and eat, I’ll find sothing to do."
She wasn’t exactly lying; she was genuinely bored. She had been counting cars just a mont ago.
Beep!
Suddenly, the sound of a car horn ca from the roadside. Instinctively, Alice looked up, initially thinking it was Benjamin returning, but to her surprise, she saw Thomas Fisher’s car. Her face instantly showed an expression of surprise. How was he so fast?!
