Chapter 262: Two Alene’s

“A milf and her two daughters…” Rael muttered.

The mont he did, he earned a bonk over the head from Zafira.

“My bad,” Rael said with a sigh. “I didn’t realize I said that out loud.”

“Mhm. Sure…” Zafira replied, unconvinced.

Anyhow, Alene didn’t have as kind of a reaction.

“You’ve caused quite the ruckus back at ho, Rael,” Alene said, pushing a strand of her long hair back. “But I’m more curious about one thing in particular. What did you do to Reinhardt when you two went inside the pocket realm?”

“Take a guess,” Rael replied with a knowing smile as he took out a familiar greatsword, planting it on the ground beside him.

He rested against it and shot a serious look at Alene and her two daughters.

“I gave him multiple chances to back down. I even offered him a truce. However, Diederich convinced him I was the ultimate enemy,” Rael said quietly. “So when he approached and tried to eliminate , I turned the tables on him.”

Shyvana’s gaze sharpened, turning cold.

“He had always been an idiot… I knew that… but I still left him with Father…” she mumbled, clenching her fists. “I should have never trusted Father to handle an idiot like Reinhardt…”

Alene seed rather calm, and for so reason, the sa applied to Azarielle as well.

They were siblings, so he was puzzled that she wasn’t mourning him at all.

But then he recalled one interesting factor.

They had so sensitive information on Aztera the last ti he checked, and even now…

It was impossible for them to figure out Alene’s location by normal ans, unless soone on the inside was feeding them information.

As it just so happened, Rael’s suspicion naturally fell onto Azarielle.

He wouldn’t voice it just yet, rely keeping it in the back of his mind.

Still, it was a good trump card he could use at any ti against Alene.

After a brief mont of silence, Alene let out a chuckle.

“I see… I guess that might be a blunder on my part for not teaching him correct manners,” Alene said plainly. “But now that you’re here, do you wish to have a little chat?”

“Hmm… first things first, can I ask a question?” Rael tilted his head.

Before she could answer, he continued.

“Where is the real Alene? The mother of Azarielle and Shyvana. Not Alene, the Moon Goddess, and the Fourth Seat of the Blazing Sun faction.”

“You looked into us?” Alene raised a brow. “I don’t see how that’s possible… though you do have so mind-related skills, don’t you? Tricky…”

She was clearly an annoying person to talk to, so he simply skipped to the part of guilt-tripping her daughters.

“Shyvana, right? How do you feel knowing that the woman standing before you is not actually your mother?” Rael asked. “Don’t you rember what happened in the past?”

“Do you an those particles? She’s already told all about them,” Shyvana replied plainly. “Once soone of a high enough level dies—”

Rael coughed. “Bullshit. I don’t know how she did it, however, the Alene before you is the sa Alene who died back then. Your mother? She’s either dead or trapped sowhere.”

His best guess was that this Alene managed to create a second avatar, which she used to take over their mother’s body.

But before he could ponder the situation further, Alene let out a sigh.

“I was their mother, and I am still their mother,” Alene stated, narrowing her eyes. “You must already know about the avatars, correct?”

He tilted his head. “Sure?”

She nodded. “Most people can have one avatar at once through the usage of the VR headset. However, I had an idea of creating my own avatar without using such a shabby model.”

Alene cleared her throat and stepped closer toward him.

“I succeeded. I managed to have two avatars at once. However, that was the extent of my happiness, as I suddenly lost control of one avatar…” she trailed off. “Before I could manifest its form to suit my needs, it escaped my grasp and traveled to one of the worlds under the Blazing Sun faction’s control.”

She let out a sigh.

“My avatar’s life began from infancy. She was adopted and raised by a loving family. Eventually, she got married to a person you might know that goes by the na of Diederich Ashavir.”

Rael’s brows twitched as he began piecing together the story.

But for his own sake, and Zafira’s, he continued listening to Alene’s speech.

“My avatar supported him until he beca the ruler of Aztera. They got married, then had two kids,” she added softly.

But her gaze soon turned cold.

“But when my avatar turned 25 years old, she sent out a signal to ,” Alene said with furrowed brows. “She had begun regaining mories, and they were mories of my very long life. Naturally… her attitude changed, and even her behavior. She went from magnanimous to cruel… I’m not cruel.”

She clenched her fists. “But our personalities clashed, and before the conflict could resolve… my avatar gave birth to Azarielle and was imdiately killed by husban—Diederich…”

It seed like a sad story, so Rael could only let out a sigh.

After all, he could detect lies, and not even a single word that ca out of her mouth was a lie.

Only the truth.

“So did you share mories with your avatar… after she died?” Zafira asked out of nowhere.

Alene tilted her head. “You are… his wife? Hmm… I must thank you for allowing us to descend for so long. But yes, I inherited all the mories my avatar had gathered, and now, I treat these two girls as if they were my actual daughters.”

She brushed her fingers across Shyvana and Azarielle’s hair, then shot a blank, yet malicious look straight at Rael.

The air grew colder in an instant, and the moon above the cathedral lit up in a pale blue light that illuminated Alene’s figure.

“Reinhardt was also one of my children,” she said, extending her hand to the side as a blue scythe appeared, nearly twice her size.

She pointed it at Rael and flashed a cold glare.

“And for killing him, I will make you pay.”
