Chapter 306: Obtaining The First Batch of Rewards

“Cut off my balls if I’m lying!” Peter scread, slamming his hand onto the table, causing the deck of cards to go flying into the sky.

“You fucking bastard!” one of the n shouted as he stood up and lunged at Peter, grabbing his neck. “Do you know how hard it was to get those cards, huh? If you go throwing shit around like that, I’m going to stick a piranha inside your ass!”

Peter clicked his tongue. “I was just kidding.”

“And the drink?” The man extended his hand. “The one you just lost?”

“It’s… I don’t have a drink,” Peter admitted, lowering his head. “Actually… I just wanted to play with so stakes on the line, you know—”

Peter’s words were cut off as a fierce punch landed straight to his jaw, knocking him unconscious.

In the anti, Rael watched the entire situation unfold with satisfaction.

Peter was a familiar figure, and one of the few people he rembered from the past.

He was a gambling addict, but he was also a loan shark.

The two got along at first, and Rael frequently borrowed money from him.

He always paid it back in ti, but one day, Peter ended up scamming him.

Instead of fresh, clean bills, Rael got counterfeit money.

I fucking gambled all that money and even won so back… but the second I hit the million mark, they scanned the original bills I used to buy in, Rael thought with a frown.

The people in charge were the Yakuza.

They didn’t have much of a presence in Seoul, with only a few non-established organizations running around.

But this casino that he coincidentally chose belonged to the Yakuza, and it was the sa casino they planned on using to slowly gain a foothold in Seoul.

And… because of Peter and those relentless fuckers, I was caught up in their shit.

Rael glared at the knocked-out Peter.

They were going to kill , but given how slippery my record was, they made a mule, Rael recalled.

But he didn’t deal in drugs, no. He dealt in illegal weapon trafficking.

Because of that, he had plenty of illegal weapons stored inside his ho—so he stole after writing them off as an error on the Yakuza’s part.

They also had a group inside Sketa Online, which he was forced to join.

He might’ve accidentally opened the treasury and sold all their gear.

But mistakes happen, right?

Still…

Rael crouched down beside Peter and tapped his cheek, trying to wake him up.

To his surprise, he could interact with Peter, who, just a mont later, opened his eyes in annoyance.

But that annoyance soon turned to shock, then wariness.

“You fuck… no. How’s it going, Rael?” Peter asked sheepishly. “It’s been a few years since we’ve seen each other, eh? How’s the sister?”

“…”

Rael simply let out a sigh as he unsheathed his sword, placing it on Peter’s neck.

“H-Hey now! Don’t be hasty!” Peter yelled, his cockroach instincts kicking in. “I had no choice back then! The fucker who was supposed to clear my bills ran away!”

Peter’s gaze sharpened. “I had no choice but to get rid of the money. You just… you just arrived at the wrong ti. It’s fair ga, right?”

“Wrong,” Rael replied coldly. “That little stunt of yours fucked my life over. If I even so much as tried leaving Seoul, I would’ve been shot dead.”

“Co on, man… for good old tis’ sake, why don’t you just let be?” Peter reasoned. “I’m a new man. I don’t do any of that money-lending shit anymore, I just gamble items. It’s harmless, right?”

Rael paused, staring at him for a few monts before muttering a single word under his breath.

“Shaless…”

And before Peter could even react, Rael drove his sword straight into Peter’s neck, killing him in an instant.

But as Rael thought that’d be all of the surprises, a green soul erged from Peter’s body and floated right in front of him.

Rael was puzzled about what to do, so he simply reached out, tapping the soul.

In the very next instant, the soul vanished, almost like it had never existed in the first place.

Yet a soothing feeling soon passed through Rael’s body, heading into his heart.

And then, the pop-ups he had been waiting for ever since he started these trials arrived.

Rael didn’t have to wonder for long as he pressed “Yes” right away.

Nothing happened at first, until eventually, his body felt like it was being enveloped in a thick fog.

He was confused at the lack of pain or any other sensation, for that matter, but when he looked deeper, he realized his heart no longer beat, and the feeling of hunger and thirst vanished.

Noticing that sothing went wrong, Rael brought his Reaper Sword down on his palm, trying to draw blood.

[HP -153! 1,777 / 1,930]

But instead of his usual red blood, what ca out was green, and it felt thicker than blood.

What the fuck is this?

He didn’t have to wonder for long as the system soon explained what was happening.

—You are no longer among the living, nor do you belong to the dead. This physique stems from a forgotten Reaper who once judged worlds.

—Special bonuses:

1. All [Death-type], [Reaper-type], and [Soul-type] skills and abilities are 150% more effective.

2. You are unaffected by hunger, thirst, sleep, or basic biological needs. You cannot be detected by life-based scans or divinations.

—Effects:

1. Phantom Core (Passive): Your heart has been replaced by a ghostly core. You can survive decapitation and other fatal hits for up to 6 hours and regenerate most wounds unless the core is destroyed.

2. Reaper’s Vitality (Passive): You no longer breathe, bleed, or carry a heartbeat. Most poisons, diseases, and internal damage have minimal effect on you.

3. Reaper’s Cloak (Active): You may enter the Soul Realm at will. While inside the Soul Realm, mortal beings are unable to perceive your existence.

Rael gulped audibly.

Fuck… this is definitely what I needed.

And yet, that wasn’t all.
