"A job well done, Aster," Mathieu said softly. "You’ve successfully neutralized the main target."

"...But you killed him, didn’t you?" Rael asked, wary. "Wasn’t our mission supposed to be to insert the mana crystal Frederick had brought into the strongest cha?"

Mathieu smiled. "What do you think I did when I gripped its head? I had the crystal in my right hand, and while crushing its head, I embedded the crystal inside it. Everything went according to plan. You don’t have to worry."

Despite the reassurance, Rael felt like this guy was even more dangerous than before.

"Was that ti reversal?" Rael asked the obvious.

"Who knows?" Mathieu replied dryly and took a few steps toward Rael, stopping right in front of him. "I am who I am because of my abilities. But I’ve recently been given the opportunity to climb higher, only if I rack up sufficient achievents."

Rael’s brows furrowed slightly.

Climb higher? He’s getting a promotion, but to which rank? Rael thought, narrowing his eyes. Could he be Jashin’s replacent?

Mathieu clicked his tongue. "I knew Lorealis in the past. He was one of the more promising humans. I put him in charge so he could fix the problem brewing between humans and robots. In the end, he turned against the Blazing Sun faction, and even those he cared about."

He turned his head to the side, then pointed at one of those miniature red-haired dolls.

"That right there is a human, or rather, it was. When everything took a turn for the worse, Lorealis separated the souls of humans and stuffed them inside hollow immortal shells. As for the robots, he kept upgrading them by using the smartest humans on this planet, and of course, he also used the fallen Blazing Sun soldiers for their battle techniques."

Hearing that, Rael narrowed his eyes.

Storing human souls inside dolls... How fucked up.

"You ntioned putting him in charge, but Frederick said sothing along the lines of this world going to shit several hundred years ago, so—"

"That’s indeed the case," Mathieu cut him off. "The stronger we get, the slower we age. I am 792 years old, and with my current powers, I can live up to 4,000 years. Aren’t you also pretty old? Having dealt so easily with a foe like that was comndable."

Rael scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Easy? If not for your ti reversal, then I would’ve been injured. The others would be dead as well."

"Believe it or not, no one died," Mathieu replied with a hum. "Frederick was fatally injured, but I was able to save him. However, your role in all of this was still subli. As a Grade 1, you managed to completely overwhelm a Grade 2. That alone is enough of an achievent, so don’t worry, I’ll add that to the report."

And by report, he obviously ant the mission report.

"So... what happens to the world now?" Rael asked, turning to the red-haired dolls. "And what about them?"

"As per protocol, this world will now beco a training ground for our future troops," Mathieu said and approached one of the red-haired dolls. "As for these poor souls... since there is no one capable of guiding them, they shall slowly disappear."

Guide, huh? Rael raised a brow.

With his Primordial Mark, he could probably take their souls. But in the end, he decided against it. He was no saint, but these people had suffered enough. To enslave them beyond death was just not sothing he was comfortable doing.

It was just a pity that it felt like the Primordial Mark’s connection had been severely weakened. But since even Alune forgot about him and he couldn’t get in contact with her no matter how many tis he tried, there was nothing he could do.

Therefore, after a brief mont of silence, he decided it was ti he got back on track.

"Is the mission over?"

Mathieu nodded with a smile. "Yes, the others should be arriving here soon. You can rest up if you want. There’s nothing left to do."

Rael was about to speak up, but that was when he felt a connection form out of nowhere, and then, an annoying voice spoke.

[I’m back. I was about to break the news to you, but as you can see... I was a little too late,] Burger said with a sigh.

No shit.

[However, I did uncover sothing interesting. Honestly, take this more as advice.] Burger cleared his throat. [Impressing Mathieu could lead to more opportunities. So what do you think you could do in this mont that would impress him?]

Really? Alright... Rael thought about it for a mont, then ca to a simple conclusion.

"How about we have a spar then?" Rael offered out of nowhere, making Mathieu turn to him with a puzzled look.

"You wish to spar against after seeing what I can do?"

"Yep. Your Grade is not that much higher than mine, so I just kind of wanted to see where your power cos from, you know?" Rael replied flatly.

Mathieu chuckled. "That’s a bold decision, but with your strength, I assud you had already begun learning them."

Rael tilted his head. "Them?"

"Doesn’t matter," Mathieu dismissed, and then entered a fighting stance. "I’ll show you sothing interesting, so try not to get killed."

Rael rolled his eyes, then entered a fighting stance as well.

A second passed, then two, and once the third second ca along, the two vanished from sight.

Since Lorealis had died, Rael was no longer marked, so he was able to instantly appear in front of Mathieu and swing his fist down straight at his face.

Mathieu had an amused expression on his face, perfectly tracking Rael’s near-instantaneous movents.

But that was where the tricky part ca into play.

Rael’s Foresight activated, showing him an outco two seconds in the future.

At first, it showed his hit landing clean on Mathieu’s face, severely injuring him.

But before he could focus on that thought, his Foresight turned blank. It wasn’t disabled. Instead, it was almost like there was no future to see.

Even so, Rael’s fist finally reached Mathieu’s face, and with a heavy strike, he sent Mathieu flying.

-98%!

Rael held back as much as he could, and despite the clean hit, he felt his body moving backward on its own again.

Like before, ti turned back a single second and Mathieu was once again unfazed. Just this ti, he took a step toward Rael, ready to strike him down.

Rael couldn’t move, almost like sothing was binding him.

But in the very last mont, when Mathieu’s fist was right in front of him, Rael managed to move his body slightly, surprising Mathieu and causing him to stop his fist right in front of Rael’s face.
