Chapter 455: Infusing Fate

“Sure,” Rael replied. “So, how do we start?”

Burger shook his head. “Just relax for a mont. Let think…”

“Didn’t you have plenty of ti to think?” Rael asked, puzzled.

“Plenty of ti?” Burger raised a brow in irritation. “Do you think etching the Fate affinity into soone’s Dragon Heart requires a minute of thinking? You bastard… if I could strangle you here and turn you into charcoal for my salmon, I would do so in a heartbeat.”

“…”

Rael stared at him for a few monts, then chuckled. “Fine, take your ti.”

Of course, he really hoped he wouldn’t take too much ti. After all, he wanted to train and then call Zafira before the monsters arrived. At this rate, he was sure they would only arrive tomorrow, but alas, he didn’t know how beings at Grade 8 and above really worked.

Still…

“Hey… I’ve been wondering, but is it really that easy to just get such an overpowered affinity?” Rael asked. “I an, what if I had bought so weak ultimate skill from the Premium Shop… maybe reality manipulation to an extent. Would I have been able to have a reality-warping affinity?”

“Why not,” Burger replied. “I can etch any affinity into your heart. However, reality manipulation might just be sothing your body can’t handle. It’s just like Plasma. Too much, and you might get erased before you know it.”

“But if it’s reality manipulation, can’t I just do the sa thing as Fate?” Rael asked.

However, he was steadily ignored as Burger continued sitting with his eyes closed. Eventually, he reopened them, glancing at Rael.

“I’m done on my side. Take your shirt off,” Burger instructed.

Rael was a bit skeptical, but he did so anyway. Just in case Burger couldn’t reach him, he sat down as well.

“Good. Now, this process might be a little painful.” Burger grinned. “However, you must be awake because you will need to regulate the mana that’s entering your body. Do you understand?”

Rael nodded. “Fair enough. How painful will it be exactly?”

Burger didn’t reply. Instead, he walked around Rael and placed a paw on his back, right where his heart was.

“Let’s just say… I wouldn’t want to repeat the process.”

“Hold on then,” Rael interjected. “Let buy a pain nullification skill—”

Before Rael could finish his words, he felt a jolt of electricity shoot through his body. It traveled swiftly through his veins, practically paralyzing him in an instant.

“This is the only bit of rcy I will give you,” Burger said. “This might act as an anesthetic. If you struggle too much and waste mana, the anesthetic effect will wear off. If that happens, I’m sure you’ll regret it.”

He narrowed his eyes. “Rember, your only goal will be to take in the mana I am emitting and then transfer it directly into your heart. The mana will be moving through your ridians… just think of them as veins.”

Rael tried to open his mouth to speak, but he couldn’t.

Without another word, Burger smirked and placed his paw on Rael’s back.

In the next instant, Rael felt a wave of energy enter him. It felt strangely familiar, but he couldn’t tell if it was mana or sothing else entirely. Despite that, he rembered Burger’s words and began leading that energy to his heart through his veins.

Or at least, that was the plan. However, he soon realized that guiding the energy was more difficult than he expected.

Every ti he focused on it, an unpredictable force seed to envelop him. It was almost as if moving the energy forward made it move backward. If he did the opposite, it would do the opposite as well.

Fate… is it supposed to be that hard to control? Rael thought, then went back to trying.

For the first couple of minutes, it was difficult, which made the energy spread toward his lower body and his brain, all but avoiding his heart. However, after so ti, Rael managed to finally grab a single strand of that energy, and in one swift motion, he guided it toward his heart.

Imdiately, the sight of a massive silver moon appeared in his vision, but it faded just as fast. Rael wasn’t sure what it was, but in the heat of the mont, he thought of it as nothing important.

Therefore, he kept grabbing the strings of energy bit by bit, with his control improving quickly.

All of a sudden, his vision darkened. In the pitch-black space, he spotted the figure of a red-haired man curled up into a ball. The man looked identical to both Kareth and Lucien, but given the timing, Rael was sure it was Lucien.

Unbeknownst to Rael, the strange energy that had been coursing through his body had begun automatically moving toward his heart, surprising even Burger, who finally took his paw away.

Rael took a step in that strange dark place. Perhaps because it was what he knew best, the ground turned into shallow water, and a pale white moon manifested out of nowhere, hanging right above him as he approached the curled-up Lucien. Then he placed a single hand on Lucien’s shoulder.

Yet what happened next was the last thing he could’ve expected, as Lucien suddenly opened his eyes and turned toward Rael. But instead of the familiar starry blue, they were now a hollow silver.

Lucien opened his mouth, but just as he was about to say sothing, Rael vanished from that strange place, leaving him all alone.

He remained motionless for a few monts before once again curling up into a ball, as if nothing had happened.

Slowly, the surroundings reverted to how they had been just monts earlier. The pale moon turned montarily silver, then vanished just like the shallow water.

Lucien’s fingertips twitched, but before long, he beca motionless once again as the cycle that had almost been broken continued.

At that mont, Rael’s eyes shot open as he tried to process what he had just experienced.
