The announcent was simple.
’Since, the Zeus academy was so competent in dealing with my pets and my puppets. I am not going to give you the added advantage of knowing where you are going to be hit.
They will co at random and leave at random.
But be sure that this ti, I am going to deal with you for sure.’
After the announcent was made, the Zeus team got extrely nervous. They just had that trepidation about how everything went bust whenever Sam said he would do sothing.
He almost always ended up doing it and in a spectacular way that made everyone else puke their guts out in resentnt. They were expecting the beasts to co at them and they did.
Two random cities, with no clear reason or pattern that they could identify were hit at the sa ti.
One city was hit by the familiar tiger everyone knows. The other city was hit by the new pet Sam added to the fold. A bear.
A Giant Stone bear to be exact. This also had its bloodline enhanced by Sam and improved its destructive abilities to a whole new level. Just like Vidyuth said, there was no point in using the spatial restrictions.
The two creatures ended up inside the formations of the respective cities and they had collars on their necks. Each collar of course had one lady bug embedded in it. Everything was perfect, just as Sam said it would be and then started the destruction.
This ti, the initial attack ca out as a surprise and it did take a couple of people down. However, the lightning users in charge of the formation reacted quickly.
*BAM* *BAM*
They couldn’t find or identify any of the mosquito puppets. So they just targeted the beast itself. The barrier triggered as expected. Nothing happened, the beast was still running around and the barrier remained intact.
Of course, they didn’t feel disappointed, because whatever happened was within their expectations and that delusion lasted for only two seconds.
Because the second strike that landed, acted as if it was a ball thrown on a wall. Not only did it bounce off the barrier, the force sohow sent the beast along with its barrier to a different spot. Its like two flying objects collided and got redirected into new directions.
And that was exactly what happened.
The lightning attack that landed on the barrier got diverted and hit one of the mbers who wasn’t expecting it.
So, did the beasts. They flew through the air and landed on their target and revealed the next surprise.
The barrier that could even take the full force attacks of the whole city, suddenly molded like clay. It expanded further and enveloped the bear along with the few other targets around it. Sa with the tiger, it locked in four people before the barrier got locked in.
Once the barrier was locked, there was no escape.
Mosquito bots flew over and as the beasts killed, they turned the bodies into shadow undead. The bodies then were devoured by the ladybug.
All happened in the matter of seconds, even before they could conjure up their lightning.
And when they did conjure the lightning to drop the next attack, the beasts once again flew over with the recoil, while the lightning killed a couple of their own compatriots.
The two people who were in charge of the formations in the two cities, didn’t know what to do. They panicked and tried to contact Vidyuth. But they couldn’t.
The city’s communication system didn’t respond. The others who were standing by to take over the formation… they were the people who didn’t have any task at hand at the mont and they decided to take it up on themselves, to deal with the trouble.
They increased the energy output.
They drew more energy out of the formations to attack the bear. However, the bigger attacks created a bigger recoil and bigger impact on the candidates. Later, those dead bodies beca undead creatures as well when the beasts passed by.
Everyone beca anxious.
The only strategy they had was to consu energy and based on the beasts actions, they were certainly doing that. And the teams were sure that they were consuming a lot of it from those recoil actions and barrier moulding.
However, the consumption was not fast enough. Soon, the two cities decided to evacuate apart from the people that are needed to control the formation. But as they tried to do that, all of a sudden a translucent barrier, that wasn’t there before, appeared.
Only then did they notice, that out of the undead that was created, a few shadows drifted to different directions and are now acting as nodes of this translucent formation.
Sohow, it restricted the spatial transference and acted as a physical barrier as well.
The battles in both cities almost ran parallel. Both started sa and were going at the sa pace. Until it changed in the city attacked by the tiger.
"FUCK. We can’t let it go on like this. Let’s join hands and deal with it once and for all."
The guy that stood by as a backup to take over the formation, checked their energy levels. Due to the increased output in the lightning strikes, they noticed that their energy levels have been running low.
The collar on the tiger was as bright as it when first entered the city. According to Vidyuth’s observations, the collar would have dimd. At least a little bit.
So, they decided to take control of the formation at the sa ti and drew a lot of energy from the city energy reserves.
The lightning gathered and instead of spreading throughout the cloud, it was concentrated at one spot. It followed the path of the tiger as it gathered more and more energy. It took the will power of the two to actually contain it and keep it from exploding.
*BOOM*
With an explosion, the lightning strike zood toward the tiger.
The ladybug which was busy collecting and devouring the corpses, suddenly emitted an eerie glow. All of a sudden, the barrier around the tiger thickened and its energy was concentrated at a single point. The point where the lightning was about to make contact.
*BAM*
The tiger was thrown off. In a flash it was thrown into the barrier. But before it could crash, it disappeared into a spatial tear.
anwhile, the lightning bolt that hit the tiger’s barrier and was diverted, didn’t hit anyone, instead, it went and hit the critical node of the city formation.
*BOOM*
The formation went haywire and because of the overdrawn energy by the controllers, the energy reservoir was in an imbalance.
*BOOM*
The whole city exploded with a lightning elental energy blast.
It wasn’t big enough to kill all of them. However, it was big enough to take a lot of them away and make a lot of them injured.
The aftermath was a devastation.
However, on the city that was attacked by the bear, things were a little different.
They didn’t rush into attacking with one singular attack and they stuck to the plan. But soon, they also noticed the problem similar to the first city.
"We are about to run out. We are running the spiritual veins dry and its recovery ti is not sufficiently keeping up with our consumption. We will be in trouble." One the said out loud. There was a stunned silence from all the fighters and soon they reached a decision unanimously without anyone so much as saying a word.
"We are pulling back. Abandon the city."
Just like that, in an anticlimactic way the battle ended there. At least, they didn’t lose as many people as the first city.
And that was just the start of the day.
Before they could inform Vidyuth who was far away, Sam already made his move on the next two cities and similar situations unfolded. Either the city was destroyed, the formations broke down or they abandoned everything after a while.
Even though Sam didn’t get the clean victories that were kind of expected of him, the Zeus academy lost clearly. Not as devastatingly as people thought they might. There are only four cities they managed to keep.
One of them was led by Vidyuth.
However, back at the elder station outside the portal, Vidyuth acted furious.
"You bloody, egotistical, self-obsessed, insecure, brain-dead, idiotic bastards.
Why couldn’t have just stuck to the plan?
If you couldn’t you should have at least contacted . You are saying that the contact chanism was a bust?
But how did it go bust?
How did Sam know what kind of communication chanism we were even using much less find out its location? And he deactivated it with what? The tiger claws or the bear paws?"
