Now reading: Chapter 911: The Son of De Gaulle from Re: Blood and Iron, a Action novel by Zentmeister.

Officially, the story that followed the attacks in Zurich had been cented as thus: Jacque who was the lone survivor of his cell was believed to have betrayed his unit and killed them before surrendering to the police.

And Louis, the federal investigator, was secretly a double agent for Réveil de France who had murdered Jacques as a traitor to the cause.

With no evidence to the contrary, and Switzerland’s sole lead missing in action. It was all too easy for Germany to manipulate the narrative into heading this direction.

Especially when one understood just how much they had infiltrated the Swiss nation and its major institutions.

Currently in Geneva a woman sat in the outdoor seating of a local French style café. Her locks were dark and flowing, her features were Frankish, not necessarily French but sothing much older.

If one gazed upon her, they would see a woman who was tilessly beautiful in a way that defied trends. She wore a pair of thick rimd sunglasses and sipped from the cup in her hand.

Sitting across from her was a well dressed young man, not even yet in his mid-twenties. He seed to be fawning over the woman despite her disinterest.

"Marianne, my darling, it would appear that the sothing has happened regarding our friends in Zurich... It is curious, my friends in the Federal Police tell that they believe one of our own family is responsible for this unsavory business."

The woman he called Marianne sharply turned her gaze towards the man sitting across from her. Though her gaze couldn’t be seen beneath her sunglasses, one could easily tell by the shape of her lips that she was far from ecstatic.

"Pierre, how many tis have I asked you to stop calling that? No matter how many tis you all insist I am the living personification of France and its republican virtues. That is not my na...."

Pierre did not seem too taken aback by the stern response, and instead tried to reason wit the woman despite her interest slipping back to the streets as she continued to sip her coffee.

"Co on, darling, nobody knows your na. You’ve been very good at keeping it a secret. Am I truly supposed to call you by your title, even here in public while we are trying to remain incognito?"

The woman whose title was Conférencière didn’t even bother to shift her gaze back to Pierre as she continued to stare in silent observation behind her sunglasses.

"What do you think?"

Pierre imdiately dropped the façade and sighed, drinking the wine in his glass in a single go. Disregarding all etiquette as he stared Conférencière down.

"Fine... I’ll cut to the chase... My people are worried that sobody may be hunting us. It’s one thing for the Federal Police to crackdown on a cell and lay a trap for them. But it’s entirely another thing for an entire cell to get wiped out to the last man before falling into that trap."

Conférencière didn’t seem to feign the slightest interest in Pierre’s controlled outburst, causing him to continue with his rant.

"Philippe may have been a fanatic, but he was smart, he was experienced, and he likely would have seen the signs of an ambush before walking into it. What terrified is that we don’t know anything about the case other than the Federal Police believe one of our own is responsible. So I have to ask... Was this his doing, you speak for him don’t you?"

Finally, Pierre had managed to get Conférencière’s attention as she looked over at him and lowered her glasses. Her gaze was stern enough to cause chills to go down Pierre’s spine.

"Are you questioning the son of de Gaulle?"

Pierre imdiately and violently shook his head, almost as if he were trying to cast out demons who were attempting to take over his mind. Sweat poured from his brow as he responded.

"Never! I would never do such a thing! If this is his will, then I will not ask further about it, and I will inform others to do the sa!"

Since Pierre had beco imdiately docile and compliant, Conférencière stood up and grabbed her bag, pushing her seat in just before she began to walk off.

"Good, that settles the matter then, I have a eting to attend with our fearless leader. In the anti, keep applying pressure to the right areas. Soon our liberation will be at hand."

Conférencière then walked off, leaving Pierre alone with the bill. The mont he saw the size of it he cursed beneath his breath. Pouring himself another glass of wine as he fished for his wallet.

---

The woman known as Conférencière found her way into a hotel room in Geneva. She had restyled her hair and changed her clothing entirety. Her makeup had been washed away ,and reapplied before entering the building.

Nobody she knew in Réveil de France would have recognized her by the ti she walked into the Hotel, and entered the room. And there, sitting across from her was a much older man dressed in a three piece suit.

Despite the difference in their ages, Conferenciere seed almost a little too flirtatious with him as she walked over and began rubbing his shoulders. An act that caused the man to push her hands aside.

"Annemarie... For the love of God, how many tis do I have to tell you that I am happily married."

The woman sighed and rolled her eyes as she sat down on the bed in front of the seat that the man sat in.

"Forgive , my Prince. It is just that my respect and admiration for you sotis slips past the boundaries you have established between the two of us."

Maximilian rolled his eyes at the response. The woman, who was roughly half his age, had been far too liberal with their relationship under the guise of ’respect and admiration.’

Still, she was an incredibly useful asset, and so he let it slide.

"Just see to it that it doesn’t happen again...."

Annemarie was quick to nod her head as Maximilian continued.

"Now, tell , where are we with our efforts?"

Annemarie would spend the rest of the evening getting Maximilian up to date on the current situation in Switzerland.
