"Xu Tianyi, Luo Qianqian, soone’s looking for you." Just after class, Luo Qianqian had just planned to rest her head on the desk when she heard the call from the classroom door.
She exchanged glances with Xu Tianyi, their faces filled with confusion, and they left the classroom.
"I’m Class One’s president, Sun Quan," the boy introduced himself with a hint of pride, tilting his chin up slightly. His glasses couldn’t hide the ambition in his eyes. Luo Qianqian frowned and remained silent; Luo Shufan had already entrusted her entirely to Xu Tianyi. It was his place to deal with such matters.
"What do you want?" Xu Tianyi asked coldly, looking at the boy in front of him and recalling those people in school who had that sa air of condescension.
"On behalf of Class One, I’m inviting you to join us," Sun Quan said, his disdainful gaze making Luo Qianqian feel uncomfortable. But her brother had already told her to listen to Xu Tianyi at school. Simply because Xu Tianyi had been able to assist him with physics, he had ’sold’ his sister to run errands.
Xu Tianyi looked down and didn’t miss the disgust in Luo Qianqian’s eyes, feeling slightly relieved. He was worried that this kind girl might hold a grudge against him for rejecting Class One. After all, he had a responsibility to consider Luo Qianqian’s wishes first, and he would still go if Luo Qianqian wanted to, even if he didn’t like it.
"We’ll have the sa results wherever we are, whether it’s a good class or a bad one," Luo Qianqian snorted coolly. She was already studying high school-level material, so middle school was a breeze. For Xu Tianyi, the ’Scholar God,’ it was even less of an issue.
"You!" Sun Quan was well aware that soone had refused to join the experintal and competition classes at the start of the school year in favor of a regular class and had still managed to score the top two grades in the year alongside a transfer student. The supposedly superior students of Class One faced a severe blow to their pride.
"I’m quite content," Luo Qianqian said, displeased with Sun Quan’s rapidly changing expressions.
"And you?" Sun Quan turned to Xu Tianyi.
Xu Tianyi shrugged. "It’s the sa for wherever I am," he said, then glanced at Luo Qianqian’s anxious face before slowly adding, "Isn’t it more interesting to be in this kind of class?"
With a cold snort, Sun Quan turned and left. After all, both of these people had enough pride to justify their attitude.
"You’ve made an enemy of him now. It won’t be easy from here on out," Gu Yanzhi said as he stepped forward. "He can be quite ruthless."
"But you’re from Class One, aren’t you? It’s not so nice to speak ill of a classmate," Luo Qianqian said with a smile, looking at Gu Yanzhi.
"Sotis I think you’re right, the environnt in a regular class is much more relaxed," Gu Yanzhi spread his hands helplessly.
"My environnt is relaxed?" As she spoke, Luo Qianqian glanced at Wang Wei, who was peeking from behind the back door. Startled, Wang Wei quickly shut the door. "People like him are everywhere."
"That’s true," Gu Yanzhi said with a light laugh. "I should get back to class."
"Mhm." Watching Xu Tianyi return to the classroom, Luo Qianqian had no ti to continue teasing Gu Yanzhi. With a nod, she also headed back.
"Luo Qianqian, you’re really sothing, huh? Even Class One has co to recruit you?" From the first row, Li Qi tossed a piece of milk candy high into the air, which landed steadily on Luo Qianqian’s desk. "Here’s a congratulatory gift."
"Thanks," Luo Qianqian laughed lightly. "I won’t be joining Class One, though. I already declined at the start of the year, now wouldn’t the head teacher be annoyed if I went?"
"Ha, good then," Li Qi nodded, understanding Luo Qianqian’s point.
"Show-off, you wouldn’t be able to achieve such high scores in Class One," Sun Xuan scoffed softly, yet her voice carried to Luo Qianqian’s ears.
Luo Qianqian looked at Sun Xuan with amusent. "Do you even know what ’class rank’ ans? It refers to the rank throughout the entire grade. With the top student of the whole grade by my side, even if I joined halfway through, I’d still be Class One’s top student. It’s bad enough your math is poor, but if your reading comprehension is so weak you embarrass yourself, then you really shouldn’t talk."
"Just this once, I refuse to believe you’ll still rank the sa during the midterms," Sun Xuan huffed coldly, her eyes shifting to Xu Tianyi, "I wonder how you managed to rig your way to second place."
Luo Qianqian raised her eyebrows: ", copy you? What if I’m still second in the midterms?"
"If you’re not second, then you might as well leave First Middle School early," Sun Xuan glared at Luo Qianqian fiercely.
Luo Qianqian looked at Sun Xuan amusedly: "And if I am, you leave?"
"Why should I?" Sun Xuan glared back at Luo Qianqian with a look of utter disbelief.
"A fair bet should be equal," Luo Qianqian chuckled, "Are you lacking confidence in beating ?"
"Fine, the class president is the witness," Sun Xuan said as she looked at Pei Yuhao.
Pei Yuhao looked at Luo Qianqian, and only after Luo Qianqian gave a slight nod, did he say, "All right, for the midterms, if Luo Qianqian ranks in the top two, Sun Xuan transfers out; if not, vice versa."
"I bet on Sun Xuan to win, ten yuan," Wang Wei said as he looked at Luo Qianqian and slapped a banknote on his desk.
"Take it, if you win, it gets returned; if you lose, it goes towards the class fund," Luo Qianqian suggested, seeing Pei Yuhao’s troubled expression.
"Getting it back? Then I’ll bet one hundred—on myself," Sun Xuan pulled out her wallet and yanked out a bill.
"Then I’ll put down fifty," Wang Wei looked at his own ten yuan, feeling it was a bit too little. With determination, he bet all his remaining allowance for the month.
"Oh?" Luo Qianqian chuckled lightly, feigning fear as she clutched Xu Tianyi’s sleeve: "Tianyi, big brother, how scary, what if I don’t end up ranking well?"
Xu Tianyi looked helplessly at the drama queen Luo Qianqian and played along, "No problem, you’re the best."
"Mhm, then I’ll also bet on myself—I’ll bet one yuan," Luo Qianqian rummaged through her backpack, her wallet of course never left her side, but she still managed to pull out a coin with an ’I’m so poor, don’t look at ’ expression of grievance.
"Pfft, then I’ll bet one yuan too, on Qianqian winning," Li Qi also took out a coin.
"Count in," Xia Qi added, pulling out her coin as well.
Sun Xuan, seeing a bunch of coins that didn’t even add up to as much as one of her bills, laughed proudly: "One yuan, are you that afraid you won’t be able to get it back if you lose?"
"No, no, no, whether I lose or win, I won’t take it back. I’ll consider it a contribution to the class. After all, I’m a poor person and don’t have such large denomination banknotes," she said, her gaze flicking towards Sun Xuan’s banknote.
Xu Tianyi found it amusing. How could he not know what others didn’t? Could soone who could afford surgery fees not have a hundred yuan?
He offered Luo Qianqian money, which she refused, only asking that he give her brother Shufan additional tutorial sessions. Shufan, though intelligent, was playful, and despite Elder Zhang’s supervision, still ended up playing often. Tianyi had also gained Shufan’s trust, leaving Luo Qianqian entirely in his care.
"Really feeling no ambition, aren’t you even considering aiming for first place?" Xu Tianyi watched Luo Qianqian’s arrogantly cute appearance with helpless resignation.
"First place belongs to the Scholar God, unshakable," Luo Qianqian nodded seriously.
