Mason Wilson didn’t answer imdiately, the awkward silence in the room was suffocating.
Clarissa Taylor looked at Mason, not missing any change in his expression, and said deliberately, "No matter who it is, no one is allowed to harm my daughter!"
Clarissa knew that there are many gray areas in the world. Being as old as she was, she naturally understood that not everything needed to be taken seriously. However, so things absolutely cannot have gray areas; they are either black or white!
"I’ll first investigate, to see what really happened back then," Mason spoke up, "If it was really Erie... treating like this, I see no reason to consider her my sister anymore."
The mont Mason finished speaking, Clarissa was genuinely taken aback.
Imdiately after, she was flustered, a bit at a loss, and the words she managed to string together didn’t make much sense: "The heart, but... Mom and Dad..."
Seeing Clarissa in such a state, Mason chuckled, the not-so-obvious wrinkles at the corners of his eyes beca increasingly prominent with his smile, making him look warm all over.
He gently took hold of Clarissa, who seed like a bewildered child, and whispered, "Don’t worry about Erie’s heart condition, it has significantly improved over the years."
It was precisely because Erie had been frail since childhood, with a heart condition, that even their parents had always spoiled her, but who would have thought she’d turn out this way from all the pampering.
"But..." Clarissa was still worried and wanted to say sothing, but Mason interrupted her, "I know you’re worried about Mom and Dad. Indeed, if Erie really did this, perhaps they might side with her."
After all, their parents had always protected Erie like she was a fragile crystal, but...
"Erie is their daughter, and Sophie is our daughter. If we don’t stand by Sophie, what will happen to her?" Mason’s words made Clarissa’s heart ache and her eyes begin to redden again, quickly misting over.
She knew how much Mason valued his parents, how filial he was. Now, for Sophie, he was willing to go this far, how could she not be touched.
"Thank you, thank you..." Clarissa kept saying.
"Why are you thanking ? Sophie is my daughter too." Mason said, amused yet pained, as he wiped away Clarissa’s tears. He was a man—if he couldn’t even protect his wife and child, what kind of man would he be?
"I’ll first clear up the situation from back then," Mason made a decision and felt less conflicted than when facing Charles Seymour, "It’s better to have evidence when speaking to them."
He couldn’t just talk nonsense or confront them with re speculation, could he?
Suddenly, the phone rang, Mason glanced at the caller ID, his expression not looking very pleasant, and as soon as he picked up, complaints bombarded him: "Brother, what kind of father are you? Have you seen what they are saying about Ophelia online? How could you and sister-in-law let your child be bullied like this?"
Mason’s eyes darkened, and he replied in a deep voice, "No one will bully my child. I’m busy here, hanging up now."
Erie Wilson, shocked, widened her eyes at her phone—the line went dead. Her brother had actually hung up on her?
