No matter how much Ethan and the others tried to hold on, the engagent banquet eventually ended hastily. Looking at the ss in the banquet hall, he felt a sense of bleak desolation.
"Dad, the guests have left." Jas Reed ca back and said to Ethan Seymour.
Jas’ voice slowly brought Ethan back to his senses. He only managed to respond a beat slower than usual, "Oh."
"Dad, let’s go ho too." Jas’ voice was very gentle, as if he was afraid that any louder noise would alarm Ethan.
Right now, Jas felt that Ethan was like a balloon about to explode, a little more pressure and he might burst into pieces.
Of course, if Ethan did explode, Jas wasn’t afraid. He was just worried about getting caught in the aftermath.
"Grandpa Wilson and Grandma Wilson are also tired," Jas gently reminded, as there were still outsiders present.
"Oh, yes, sure." Ethan slightly nodded, finally coming back to reality, and smiled at Old Mr. and Mrs. Wilson, "Thank you both for your hard work today. Have a good rest early."
"Ophelia, take good care of your grandparents when you go back." Ethan smiled and advised Ophelia Wilson.
Ophelia smiled, just about to speak when Erie suddenly interjected, "It’s not tiring, just embarrassing!"
Initially, both families were pretending as if nothing had happened, as though they had successfully held a perfect engagent banquet. But with Erie’s words, it was impossible to continue pretending that nothing was wrong.
"Erie." Old Mrs. Wilson frowned, seemingly scolding Erie, yet there wasn’t a hint of sternness in her deanor. How could she bear to scold her precious daughter?
Erie pouted in dissatisfaction, mumbling, "It’s true, yet I’m not allowed to say it."
Old Mrs. Wilson pretended not to hear Erie’s words and turned to Ethan with a smile, "Don’t mind her, this child just likes to talk nonsense. But, Ethan, how did Charles manage to invite so many guests? He’s quite promising."
Old Mrs. Wilson’s words made the Seymour Family look rather displeased, and even Ophelia felt quite uncomfortable.
What did Old Mrs. Wilson an?
Did she think Sophie Wilson was more valuable, planning to abandon her and turn to flatter Sophie?
This wasn’t acceptable.
Ophelia definitely wouldn’t allow this to happen. She smiled and said to Old Mrs. Wilson, "Grandma, Jas’ older brother has so misunderstandings with Uncle Seymour. He wouldn’t inform Uncle Seymour about anything, so how could Uncle Seymour know?"
"Really?" Old Mrs. Wilson said regretfully, "However, their engagent banquet was quite well done."
Anger flashed in Jas’ eyes. What did this damned old lady an?
Was she dissatisfied with how he managed the engagent banquet?
Doesn’t she see what kind of person her granddaughter is? Such an engagent banquet is more than enough for her.
"Old Madam, listen to what you’re saying. Our family hasn’t wronged your granddaughter," Charlotte Reed replied with a smile, "Jas has used the best we could offer from the Seymour Family, while it seems like Ophelia hasn’t brought much."
"Old Madam, Ophelia is getting engaged to Jas just like this, offering nothing... do you really see Ophelia as your own granddaughter?" Charlotte mockingly asked Old Mrs. Wilson.
Old Mrs. Wilson’s face turned cold, and she said, "It’s just an engagent now, not a marriage. Isn’t it a bit early to talk about a dowry?"
