These should be traditions passed down from the ancestors of the Ling Family.

Accompanying the old couple now is their youngest son.
The youngest daughter-in-law is part of the Ling Family Clan, essentially close relatives marrying.
It’s said that their first child passed away at age three, and the little Xiao Mutou they saw at the village entrance is the Old Clan Leader’s youngest grandson.
He was wearing clothes stitched from bits provided by other families; this is a tradition passed down from older generations.
Such children are said to be easier to raise.
