Qiaoqiao was sleeping deeply, but there seed to be a rustling noise by her ear. She frowned, unease growing as she muttered a few tis in Qin Yize’s arms. Even in his deep sleep, Qin Yize instinctively pulled her closer.

Yet the rustling noise continued near Qiaoqiao’s ear, amplifying her inner unease, until finally, she began to wake up bit by bit.

In the darkness, the outlines of the room were barely visible – everything was normal inside, but outside, it was pouring rain, splattering against the windows, while water gushed down like small waterfalls from the eaves.

It seed the Gu Family courtyard had transford into a watery world.

But the sound persisted, and Qiaoqiao’s drowsy gaze gradually cleared. She shifted in Qin Yize’s embrace and listened attentively. No, this wasn’t the sound of rain or wind; it seed like a cat scratching at the door?

A cat paw?

At this thought, Qiaoqiao suddenly beca alert, but she cautiously extricated herself from Qin Yize’s arms. Despite her careful movents, Qin Yize was woken; he squinted at the awakened Qiaoqiao and murmured hoarsely, "Qiaoqiao, it’s raining outside..."

Qiaoqiao softly responded, placing her hand on his face and gently stroking it, then pressing her fingers over his eyelids and whispered, "Sleep..."

His dark eyes, hazy with mist, he chuckled foolishly, rubbing his cheek against Qiaoqiao’s palm before closing his eyes and drifting back to sleep.

Only then did Qiaoqiao quietly get up, hearing the sound of cat paws scratching at the door more clearly in the dark.

The scratching noise was persistent and unwavering, accompanied by indomitable courage.

Qiaoqiao dressed and stealthily approached the door, sensing sothing, and startled inside—indeed, it was Xiao Bai. She quickly opened the door.

Amidst the darkness, accompanied by wind and raindrops the size of soybeans, a small shadow, its colors indistinct, darted in swiftly.

Qiaoqiao was choked by the wind and rain, forcing her to hold her breath as she hurriedly shut the door, keeping the storm outside. Unexpectedly, the rain was so heavy outside.

Then, that small shadow let out a pitiful ow, but Qiaoqiao refrained from turning on the light, fearing she might wake Qin Yize. She quickly extended both hands towards Xiao Bai.

Upon first contact, Qiaoqiao felt Xiao Bai’s trembling body. She silently channeled spiritual energy through her fingertips toward Xiao Bai, who soon emitted a comforting purr after being ward.

Qiaoqiao lowered her voice, "Xiao Bai, what’s wrong with you? How did you end up like this? Where did you go? How did you get here?"

A stream of questions poured out.

Xiao Bai looked sowhat befuddled at Qiaoqiao, owing softly. Qiaoqiao quickly placed her hand at her lips, gesturing for silence, whispering, "Ah Ze is still sleeping, keep it down, don’t wake him."

Xiao Bai glanced at Qiaoqiao with so grievance, but then refrained from owing further. It knew it shared a connection with Qiaoqiao, yet the barrage of questions left it unsure how to respond, leaving it to stare blankly with purple eyes at Qiaoqiao.

Realizing her many questions, Qiaoqiao gently asked, "Xiao Bai, where did you co from?"

"I ca from the Imperial Capital. I ran through the night, who knew it’d be pouring rain in this damned place, leaving covered in mud..."

Unable to resist, Qiaoqiao teased, "Been gone a few days, who taught you to be so cheeky? Why did you run all night to Jinling City?"

"I saw my owner."

"What? You saw your owner?" Qiaoqiao froze.

Xiao Bai nodded, "Yes, he’s lying on a bed in a basent, unmoving."

"And then?" Qiaoqiao asked anxiously, sensing more beneath the surface.

"What then?" Xiao Bai asked ignorantly, tilting its head.

"Why did you run miles to Jinling City, was it just to find ?" Qiaoqiao asked.

"Yeah, I ca specifically to find you; I wanted to tell you, the house where my owner is kept seems to have encountered trouble."

"Trouble?" Qiaoqiao paused, "What kind of trouble?"

"I couldn’t have found that place if not for the ambulances parked outside, carrying several people out, then I sensed my owner’s aura, and after they moved the people out, I found my owner in the basent..."

"No one discovered him in the basent?"

"Probably not, but even if they did, they wouldn’t get in," Xiao Bai lanted, not even it could enter the glass room.

"What about the research institute?" Qiaoqiao asked, surprised.

"What research institute?" Xiao Bai didn’t understand.

"The building you saw," Qiaoqiao rephrased.

"The police sealed it, but I can freely move in and out of the basent," Xiao Bai boasted, then lowered its head dejectedly, before lifting it, nervously looking at Qiaoqiao, seemingly hesitant to speak.

Qiaoqiao naturally knew what Xiao Bai was thinking, yet she didn’t imdiately reveal her stance.

Instead, she pondered, sensing sothing amiss—how could trouble arise at the research institute?

And it was sealed by the police.

If the basent housed their research subject, those people carried out should be aware, why was there no action?

Or was this basent a hidden secret, not ant for public knowledge? Could that be it?

Qiaoqiao couldn’t be sure.

But she knew things didn’t add up.

What was Nie Luan doing?

If trouble really occurred, he should have imdiately relocated Dongfang Yu, yet he left such an important person there. Could it be sothing happened to him?

Considering Sect Leader Nie’s concerns, Qiaoqiao’s expression turned solemn.

Qiaoqiao’s hand remained on Xiao Bai’s body, finding her hand covered in mud; she softly chided, "A clean white cat turned into a muddy monkey and ssed up my floor."

Xiao Bai dared not speak; where it stayed was indeed ssy, leaving mud and water in a large puddle, and Qiaoqiao’s hand wasn’t much cleaner.
