The two chatted deep into the night, until Xuexue, too sleepy to stay awake, finally fell asleep.
Only then did Long Rui tuck her in, stand up, and quietly leave.
The next day.
When Xuexue woke up, her room was completely empty. Long Rui was nowhere to be seen, and she began to wonder if she had dread it all last night!
"Master, Master, what are you looking for?"
Suddenly, Xiao Taohong’s voice echoed through the room.
Xuexue looked up to see Xiao Taohong floating out of her dinsional space—when had that happened?—along with Little Tiger, both casually perched on the roof beams, smirking at her.
Flustered by being caught looking for Long Rui, Xuexue instantly blushed and stamred, "I... I’m not looking for anything."
Xiao Taohong teased, "Lies, such lies! Do you think we didn’t hear everything last night? Looking for the War Prince, aren’t you? Oh, we heard your oh-so-cringeworthy chatter—so much ’I’ll marry you,’ and ’You’ll marry .’ We thought you were about to consummate your vows, but guess what? Soone fell asleep at the crucial mont. Boo, such a buzzkill."
Little Tiger chid in indignantly, "Exactly! Xiao Taohong even got so worked up she almost jumped on top of ! Thank heavens I kept my composure; otherwise, I’d have lost my dignity."
"Shove off!" Before Little Tiger could finish, Xiao Taohong gave him a swift kick, sending him plumting from the ceiling.
"Boom!"
Little Tiger hit the ground with a loud thud.
Unlike Xiao Taohong’s spectral form, Little Tiger had a physical body, and the fall visibly rattled him. He grimaced in pain, scrambling up awkwardly, his hands on his hips as he glared furiously at Xiao Taohong. "You miserable little ghost! First you tried to seduce last night, and now you’re hitting ? No wonder people say won’s hearts are the most treacherous—looks like they were right."
"Who’s a ’woman’ in your eyes?!"
"It’s you. Got a problem with that?"
"I think you’re asking for a beating."
"Bring it on! You think I’m scared? If you hadn’t sneak-attacked just now, you’d never have had the chance!" Little Tiger fud and rolled up his sleeves, gearing up for a fight.
Xiao Taohong floated smugly in the air, clearly aware that Little Tiger couldn’t reach her, and taunted, "Co up here if you’ve got the guts!"
Enraged, Little Tiger could only glare up helplessly, shouting, "Co down here if you’ve got the guts!"
"You’re supposed to be a Divine Beast, aren’t you? Why don’t you co up here?"
"If I had my old martial power back, I’d blast you and scatter your soul!"
"Too bad you don’t have that kind of ability now."
Their squabbling was a common occurrence; the two usually got along fine, but as soon as a disagreent surfaced, they’d raise the roof.
Xuexue rubbed her temples in exasperation. "Enough! Can you two stop arguing, please?"
Little Tiger gave Xuexue a wounded look. "She started it by hitting ."
Xiao Taohong quickly countered, "You brought it on yourself with your big mouth; you had it coming!"
Xuexue sighed, waving her hand dismissively. "Alright! Alright! Go argue in the dinsional space; Zi Xia is about to co in, and I don’t want to scare her."
Every morning around this ti, Zi Xia would arrive with the other maids, carrying toiletries and everything necessary to help Xuexue prepare for the day. It wouldn’t do to let them witness such a bizarre scene.
"Fine, I’m leaving! You think I’m scared of you?" Xiao Taohong’s voice instantly vanished as she disappeared into her space.
Little Tiger soon followed suit, disappearing on the spot.
Sure enough, within seconds, there was a knock at the door.
"Knock knock knock...! Young Miss, Young Miss, are you awake?"
"Co in," Xuexue replied.
Zi Xia pushed the door open, followed by a few maids carrying toiletries for washing up.
They lined up neatly by Xuexue’s bedside.
First, they assisted her with brushing her teeth, then handed her a steaming hot towel to wash her face.
Once everything was finished, the maids swiftly cleared away the toiletries and basins.
