Chapter 1874: Chapter 1874: Prank

A few guards dragged the Fourth Prince away.

The imperial father was furious, the Fourth Prince was anxious, his reputation was already in ruins, and if the imperial father misunderstood him further, his position in the Eastern Palace would be impossible. Even though the chances of becoming Crown Prince were slim, the Fourth Prince still held onto a glimr of hope.

“Imperial father, I am innocent! Imperial father, last night your son was following the assassins here, everything I did was to protect you.” The Fourth Prince cried desperately.

Upon hearing the word assassin, the Emperor’s heart skipped a beat, and he quickly shouted, “Wait a mont.”

The guards holding the Fourth Prince stopped.

The Emperor stepped forward to face the Fourth Prince and asked, “What did you just say? Repeat it.”

“Imperial father, assassins ca to the Imperial Palace last night, son was concerned for your safety, so I followed them all the way here. I had no idea that they had strength in numbers, and I was no match for them; they knocked out, disgracing you.” After speaking, the Fourth Prince lowered his head in sha.

If he hadn’t said this, the imperial father surely wouldn’t forgive him.

“Where did you discover the assassins? And how did you know they would co to the Imperial Palace?”

“Your son overheard them plotting to assassinate you; the situation was urgent, and in my anxiety, I followed them alone, only to find that my skills were inadequate, bringing disgrace upon the Royal Family.”

Upon hearing this, the Emperor’s expression eased; it turned out the Fourth Prince was trying to protect him, resulting in his being stripped and bound at the palace gates. It indeed was difficult for him, so he instructed the eunuch to take him into the Imperial Palace, change clothes, and then co to see him.

Afraid that the citizens would spread damaging rumors about the Royal Family, the Emperor specifically instructed Eunuch Li to explain to everyone that the Fourth Prince was protecting the Emperor’s safety, fighting alone against nurous assassins without regard for his own safety, but was overpowered and knocked unconscious, which led to such a scene. As for the placard inscribed with “lustful demon,” it was all the work of the assassins’ mischief, and everyone was told not to believe it.

Although sowhat skeptical, the people dared not speak more, nodded in acknowledgnt, and departed individually.

Nurturing Heart Palace.

The Fourth Prince took a bath, changed clothes, and donned an eye mask, seemingly regaining his confidence, even walking with his head held high.

The Emperor sat on the Dragon Throne reading a book, placing it down upon seeing him enter.

The Fourth Prince had been stripped and bound at the palace gates while rescuing him, so the Emperor’s expression had eased considerably.

“Eunuch Li, bring a seat.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

Eunuch Li brought over a stool and respectfully said to the Fourth Prince, “Fourth Prince, please sit.”

After the Fourth Prince sat down, he recounted the events of last night to the Emperor.

Of course, he didn’t tell the truth but fabricated a lie, saying he overheard so assassins plotting to co to the palace to assassinate the Emperor, and in his urgency, he followed them to the palace. In the process of intercepting them, he lacked the skills and was unfortunately knocked out.

The Fourth Prince’s account was similar to what he had said at the palace gates.

After hearing it, the Emperor said nothing more, only instructed him to return to the residence and take good care of himself.

The imperial father finally showed so favor, and the Fourth Prince was secretly pleased. After exchanging so pleasantries, he took his leave.

Just after the Fourth Prince left, Zhao Yin burst in urgently…

“Emperor, Emperor, sothing terrible has happened.”

The Emperor’s expression imdiately darkened. Although he valued Zhao Yin for handling the War Prince, it didn’t an he could be presumptuous and disregard him as the Emperor.

“How dare you, Zhao Yin, I did not summon you, yet you dare to barge in uninvited. Do you know your cri?” The Emperor’s expression changed, and he shouted sternly.
