Disregarding the monk still on the altar, the Abbot quickly looked down to check the statue, only to suddenly reveal a bloodied foot behind it.
Upon seeing this, everyone retreated in shock…
“What’s going on? Why is there a foot behind the statue?”

The Abbot was bewildered too; this statue had stood in the temple for many years without any issues.
The monk on the altar jumped down, braving himself to approach and tug at the statue, and with a thud, a blood-soaked corpse fell out from behind the statue.
Everyone saw clearly now; unquestionably, a dead body was hidden behind the statue.

The monks scread, and aside from the Abbot, they all retreated outside.

Upon hearing the Abbot’s command, the monks imdiately sent a few people to report to the authorities.
The county magistrate, upon hearing of a homicide case at the Temple of Ten Thousand Buddhas, especially with the Empress Dowager present, dared not delay at all and hurriedly brought the governnt officials over.
When the county magistrate arrived, the corpse and statue were still lying on the ground as they were. Since the discovery of the corpse, the monks dared not enter the Buddhist hall, keeping the scene intact.
The governnt officials flipped the corpse over, revealing that the corpse’s eyes had been gouged out, leaving two dark holes, terrifying everyone.
Upon seeing this, the county magistrate’s head throbbed; this corpse was identical to those in the recent demon murder cases, all with their eyes gouged out. It seed the demon killer had struck again.
Because of this case, the county magistrate was so troubled that he lost his appetite for tea and als, eager to solve it soon. However, despite investigations, he had no leads, and as long as it remained unsolved, the citizens’ panic couldn’t be alleviated.
The Emperor also continuously urged him to solve the case quickly, placing trendous pressure on the county magistrate.
