Chapter 739: Chapter 445: Soul-Striking Arrow_2

Jiang Ning had wanted to laugh, but upon closer consideration, he realized she was actually quite right.

Only, he had acted as a tool.

He sat on the sofa and turned on the TV, even the remote control had been wiped down by Xue Yuantong with a damp cloth, showing how much she liked cleanliness.

Xue Yuantong ca over, the sofa was L-shaped, and she picked the longer section, curling up comfortably.

She had never sat on such a sofa; it was like a bed, and she could sleep on it.

It was noon, and the afternoon sunlight was blocked by the curtains, the air conditioner in the living room produced cool air, and with the soft, cushy sofa, Xue Yuantong planned to take a short nap.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

Jiang Ning used his Divine Sense and saw Yang Sheng and Tang Fu outside.

He had intended to wave his hand lightly and use his Spiritual Power to open the door but worried that Xue Yuantong might freak out.

So he personally went to open the door.

Tang Fu said, “Jiang Ning, let’s go out for lunch.”

Yang Sheng called out, “Xue Yuantong, let’s go eat.”

“Coming, coming.”

“Dong Qingfeng ssaged us, saying he’s gone to sleep. I thought you two haven’t had lunch yet, wanna join?” Yang Sheng invited.

Xue Yuantong said, “Sure, sure.”

So the three girls and Jiang Ning left the district.

Once outside, Tang Fu asked, “Where should we eat?”

Jiang Ning, extending his Divine Sense hundreds of ters, said, “There’s a snack street nearby.”

While walking, Tang Fu complained, “The cicadas outside are kind of noisy; I wanted to sleep, but they gave a headache.”

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have co out for lunch at midday.

Living in the city, she had less tolerance for the noise of cicadas compared to Xue Yuantong, who grew up in a village.

Yang Sheng said, “There are too many plane trees in the district.”

“How about we get rid of the cicadas?” Tang Fu suggested.

Yang Sheng asked, “How do you plan on doing that?”

Xue Yuantong thought about using a net because when it ca to catching cicadas, she was the best in her village.

But Tang Fu cut in before her, saying, “Slingshot.”

Xue Yuantong paused for a mont.

Yang Sheng, seeing this for the first ti, asked, “Slingshot for cicadas? Can you actually hit them?”

As Tang Fu spoke, she took a big stride, her deanor expanding with her as a natural born King in the field of sports.

“Hitting a cicada, is that even hard?” Tang Fu said nonchalantly.

Hearing this, Xue Yuantong pouted, feeling her net thod suddenly inadequate.

And felt sowhat ashad.

That evening Dong Qingfeng said there would be a feast, so everyone just grabbed sothing light from the snack street at noon. They ca across a grilled gluten stall that slled amazing, and the stall owner was neatly dressed.

Thinking of the grilled gluten sprinkled with cumin and chili powder, Xue Yuantong couldn’t resist the temptation.

She ran over and asked, “How much for a skewer of grilled gluten?”

“This grilled gluten is big, look at the quality I offer, so it’s a bit more expensive than others, 1.5 yuan each,” the stall owner said cheerfully.

“1.5 yuan, huh?” Tang Fu moved closer, having been pulled back by Yang Sheng during the last bargaining attempt, the shrewd girl sensed that Yang Sheng seed to underestimate her.

This ti, she was determined to redeem her embarrassnt and blurted out, “Auntie, can you make it cheaper, how about 5 yuan for three skewers?”

As soon as the words dropped, the aunt couldn’t help laughing, “Silly girl, who bargains like that? Three skewers cost just 4.5 yuan!”

Yang Sheng, rescuing Tang Fu, who had just shown off her intelligence by slipping her behind, said instead of letting her embarrass herself further and started chatting:

“Sister, how’s business usually?”

Although they only exchanged a few words, Yang Sheng easily spent 5 yuan and got four skewers of grilled gluten.

As they left, the aunt was very happy, her cheeks nearly touching her eyes as she smiled.

Yang Sheng walked away from the stall, distributing grilled gluten to everyone, still maintaining her composure.

Xue Yuantong didn’t expect her to be so impressive; Yang Sheng was famously known as the ‘troublemaker’ in the class group, and Yu Wen and Lu Qiqi had publicly said she was difficult to get along with.

Leading the way, from behind, Yang Sheng’s short hair was neat and tidy, her body flexible, her waist so slender it seed two hands could encircle it, making her appear very delicate.

However, she was very strong; once during a physical education class, she threw a shot put further than many of the boys.

Xue Yuantong rembered clearly; when high school began, she sat in the very first row of the class.

During the evening self-study period, with the teacher presiding over the classroom from the podium, other students rarely asked questions when they encountered difficulties, and when they did, they were timid.

But Yang Sheng was different; she was composed, unreserved, and discussed with the teacher, able to clearly describe her thought process in solving problems.

Even after explaining the problem, she could still chat casually with the teacher, graceful and relaxed.

Xue Yuantong felt envious. She bit into her grilled gluten, which was spicy and smoky, chewy yet tender.

However, Xue Yuantong didn’t belittle herself; she was more impressive, not even needing to ask the teacher for help.

By the lakeside, Wanyu District.

Tang Fu tied her hair into a ponytail, holding a slingshot, pinching a mud bullet.

The mud bullet was very safe, disintegrating into powder upon hitting an object, and had very low lethality.

But it was enough to deal with cicadas.

Tang Fu pinched the pouch between two fingers, slightly closing her left eye; the silly, naive air was gone, replaced by a touch of sternness, a stark contrast.

She adjusted the sight, aiming at a sycamore tree in front of her.

The cicadas in the city, bold as ever, continued their shrill chirping even with people around.

Tang Fu pulled back the elastic band and released; the pouch snapped back instantly, the mud bullet shot forth and hit the relentlessly chirping cicada with a “bang,” silencing it.

Yang Sheng couldn’t help but praise, “Cool!”

Xue Yuantong squinted her eyes, witnessing for the first ti soone whose skills rivaled Jiang Ning!

What a cool skill, shooting cicadas with a slingshot!

Tang Fu’s deanor unchanged, she silently reached for another mud bullet, aid at another cicada, and fired again; the cicada was hit and fell to the ground.

“Wow! Jiang Ning, she’s so impressive!” Xue Yuantong shook his arm, wishing she could go and experience it herself.

Tang Fu walked around the tree, firing seven bullets and taking down four cicadas; the sounds from the tree largely disappeared.

But nestled among the dense leaves was a large cicada still wildly chirping.

Due to the leaves blocking her view, Tang Fu could only vaguely see the dark large cicada, positioned too high up.

The distance was too great, and with leaves obstructing, Tang Fu tried seven or eight shots but couldn’t succeed.

Yang Sheng assessed, “It looks like that’s the only one left chirping.”

All the others had been taken out by Tang Fu.

Tang Fu didn’t persist on tackling it directly; she lowered the slingshot, resembling a sharpshooter who had completed their mission, a smile on her lips, “Let’s try shooting from upstairs.”

Yang Sheng, feeling eager, volunteered, “Let try one!”

She took a mud bullet, aid, pulled the slingshot, “bang”—the mud bullet struck the tree trunk, far off mark.

Tang Fu said, “Using a slingshot seems simple, but it actually needs two weeks of practice to hit the cicadas.”

Xue Yuantong was amazed, “Just two weeks?”

Tang Fu matter-of-factly, “Yeah, I played with it for two weeks in my first year and haven’t shot for three years.”

Seeing Tang Fu’s confident deanor, Xue Yuantong felt a surge of excitent.

Yang Sheng tried a few tis, didn’t hit the target, and gave up.

Xue Yuantong took the slingshot, imagining herself as the Divine Shooter, but her shots were even more off than Yang Sheng’s.

She handed the slingshot to Jiang Ning, “You try.”

She also handed him a mud bullet.

Jiang Ning looked squarely at Tang Fu, “Where is the cicada?”

His expression was calm, but his question, oddly striking, caused Tang Fu subconsciously to point to the large cicada’s position, as high as four stories.

Because of its high position and owing to it nesting between the branches, Tang Fu had missed several tis.

“Are you really going to shoot? Maybe from upstairs…”

While she spoke, Jiang Ning raised the slingshot, the rubber stretched, “bang” for a single shot, smooth and swift.

After taking his shot, Jiang Ning turned and walked away, leaving a remark,

“No need, it’s already taken care of.”

Then Tang Fu clearly saw from the upper branches and leaves, a dark cicada falling through the air.

Tang Fu stood under the tree, her long legs captivating, her high nose and large eyes exuding a bit of classical beauty, a look of utter surprise on her face:

“Is it, over already?”
