Chapter 750: Chapter 454: The Ingenious thod of Making Money

River dam, bungalow.

After arriving ho, Xue Yuantong made a beeline for the kitchen and saw a large food cover over the square dining table.

This could keep out flies and bugs.

Xue Yuantong washed her hands, took a sniff with her petite nose, and identified the dishes by their aroma, reciting,

“Red braised crab, stir-fried beef tripe, hostyle fried fish chunks…”

As Aunt Gu lifted the food cover, a table full of sumptuous dishes appeared before them, and Xue Yuantong guessed them all correctly.

Aunt Gu was both annoyed and amused, unsurprisingly the work of her own daughter.

Before Xue Yuantong sat down, she grabbed a piece of at. She hadn’t had a ho-cooked al in days, and she was dying for it.

After eating two pieces, she expressed her concern, “Mom, where’s Chuchu?”

“She had classes in the afternoon. I set aside so dishes for her and told her to eat first.”

Xue Yuantong said, “I brought her a gift.”

Then she paused and added, “Mom, you have one too!”

She ran back to the living room in a hurry, took out a small box, and upon opening it, three cheerfully designed porcelain sculptures were revealed:

“Look, Mom, I bought these ‘Shi Gandangs’ on Taishan,” said Xue Yuantong with a grin.

Aunt Gu caught sight of the ‘Shi Gandangs,’ which had quirky appearances with so sticking out tongues or baring tiger teeth, making them comically endearing.

“Climbing Taishan must have been tiring, right?” Aunt Gu asked with concern.

Speaking of which, Xue Yuantong proudly claid, “Not tiring at all. I was the fastest climber among all my classmates.”

Aunt Gu didn’t believe it. She knew her daughter’s physical condition well—it couldn’t be considered weak, but it definitely wasn’t great.

Aunt Gu had never been to Taishan, but there were quite a few employees from the Changqing Liquid Company who had.

Working in the company’s kitchen with excellent cooking skills and a mild-mannered personality rumored to be connected to President Shao, her popularity was high, and everyone greeted her with a smile.

She easily learned about what climbing Taishan was like. A young man from the logistics departnt, who usually handled the delivery of vegetables himself, described the climb as very tiring.

There were also two girls from the design departnt who gave up halfway and took the cable car instead.

But a daughter knows her mother best. When Xue Yuantong noticed her mother’s expression, she knew she didn’t believe her.

She quickly pulled Jiang Ning in to vouch for her, and he cheerfully confird it was true.

This surprised Aunt Gu and made Xue Yuantong puff up with pride, prompting her to eat an extra bowl of rice.

At the table, she pulled out a braided rope ring with a peach wood charm, intending to put it on her mother.

Aunt Gu initially drew back her wrist subconsciously, but eventually, unable to resist her stubborn daughter, she revealed her wrist.

Xue Yuantong knew her mother too well. She was sure there was sothing fishy going on and imdiately saw the crack in the green bracelet.

“Mom, how did the bracelet crack?” It was given to her by Jiang Ning, and she had passed it on to her mom.

Imdiately, having thought of sothing, Xue Yuantong’s face turned pale with a sudden change.

“Mom, did you fall?” asked Xue Yuantong, her voice quivering with obvious fear, rembering how her mother had fallen off her bike and broken her arm last year, resulting in a long hospital stay she could never forget.

For a mother-daughter duo living off each other, and for their small family, it was a devastating blow.

If sothing had happened to her mom, Xue Yuantong had no idea how she would carry on.

Seeing her daughter’s reaction, Aunt Gu sighed. She wasn’t sure of the exact cause but could guess.

She chose not to hide it, knowing her daughter seed always cheerily oblivious but was actually very smart. Keeping it from her would only make her more worried.

Aunt Gu put down her chopsticks, “A few days ago, probably two days before you two went on your trip, I was riding my bike back ho from work, passing Taihe Road.”

Upon hearing this, Xue Yuantong’s thoughts raced. She was familiar with Taihe Road; it was an old street. A few months back, many houses had been marked for demolition, and most residents had moved out, leaving the street mostly deserted.

Her mother took that road back ho from work because it was quicker.

Aunt Gu continued, “Halfway through, I saw a woman struggling with a girl at the entrance of an alley. I didn’t pay much attention at first, but then I noticed the woman holding a towel.”

After cycling a bit further and reconsidering that sothing wasn’t right, Aunt Gu, who normally wouldn’t ddle, thought of her own daughter when she saw the girl.

What if Tongtong encountered a situation like that?

She imdiately turned back, and as expected, saw the woman trying to smother the girl’s mouth with the towel. Aunt Gu ran into the alley and with a strong pull—after half a lifeti of farm work, she had the strength—she snatched back the girl.

The woman, seeing this, ran back into the alley, and Aunt Gu didn’t dare pursue.

At this point in the story, Xue Yuantong’s expression shifted dramatically, as she realized what that ‘woman’ was attempting to do.

Aunt Gu went on, “Later, the girl, crying, told she was waiting for the bus at the station when the woman approached her for directions. She kindly decided to lead the way, not knowing the path would turn into a secluded alley.”

She caressed the jade bracelet: “I guess it got caught and snapped.”

There was certainly heartache considering it was a gift from Jiang Ning, now damaged in this state.

Jiang Ning listened silently. With the strength of a Protective Jade Bracelet, it shouldn’t have been able to break just by pulling.

He figured that the woman might have sought retribution afterward, which was thwarted by the bracelet, unknown to Aunt Gu.

Having heard the whole story, Xue Yuantong couldn’t bear to bla her mother, instead offering comfort, “Mom, don’t feel bad, at least you’re okay.”

Jiang Ning spoke, “It doesn’t matter if the bracelet is cracked. Not only can I carve jade bracelets, but I also know how to repair them.”

Aunt Gu always felt she owed Jiang Ning. She quickly asked,

“Can it really be fixed?”

“Yes, I’ll just find so material and trace over it. It doesn’t matter if it’s just a crack or even if it breaks entirely, I can fix it,” Jiang Ning assured with confidence.

Xue Yuantong unconditionally supported Jiang Ning, imdiately removed her mother’s Jade Bracelet, and put on the new braided rope ring.

The braided rope ring was small but Jiang Ning had configured it with a Protective Body Array to act as a temporary asure, which was completely sufficient.

Moreover, he had returned.
