Chapter 766: Chapter 459 Jiang Ning’s Gift_4

He must have grown too cocky!

Xue Chuchu wanted to agree with Tongtong, but hesitated at the thought of mooching off Jiang Ning’s fruits.

Xue Yuantong grumbled a few complaints, then Xue Chuchu ca up with an idea,

“Why don’t you give him a call and ask?”

Xue Yuantong imdiately snorted, “I’m not calling him! It would be better if he didn’t co back tonight!”

Xue Chuchu couldn’t help but laugh, but for Tongtong’s sake, she held it back.

Xue Yuantong spat out a few harsh words, basically that it would be better if Jiang Ning didn’t co back.

Xue Chuchu flipped through her workbook, attempting to divert her amusent with studying.

Seeing her studying, Xue Yuantong cuddled her iPad and sat down on the bed to play gas.

The ga Xue Yuantong played on the iPad was Monunt Valley, with its beautiful graphics and delicate music, like an artistic masterpiece.

Upon its release, the ga had stunned the industry for its exceptional quality.

Even such an outstanding ga couldn’t stop Xue Yuantong’s wandering thoughts, as she gradually beca distracted.

After playing for a while, Xue Yuantong, fearing that Jiang Ning might sneak back, decided to guard the door.

She found an excuse, “Chuchu, I’m going ho first.”

Then she picked up her tablet and sauntered off.

Xue Chuchu gripped her pen, a ripple of coldness crossed her face, solidifying at the corners of her mouth into a subtly sweet smile.

Xue Yuantong moved a small stool to the doorway and sat down, feeling like an ancient guard blocking all invaders.

She resolved in her heart, when Jiang Ning returned, she would give him a taste of his own dicine.

She had intended to eat up all the dinner left for Jiang Ning.

But then she thought it was too pitiful and didn’t have the heart to do it.

On the tarred road at the river dam, Jiang Ning cycled his mountain bike, periodically passing by strolling elders.

After dropping the twins off at ho, to make sure the trouble wouldn’t return, he flew to their cousin’s place, beat that gambling, inhuman cousin into an idiot, and then rushed back ho.

Tonight, Xue Yuantong seed very quiet, but Jiang Ning knew her well enough to expect that she would have complaints.

To prevent her from nagging, Jiang Ning decided to seize the moral high ground in advance.

He reached out and wiped his face.

Playing her ga, Xue Yuantong’s small ears perked up, and upon hearing the familiar sound of the mountain bike, she imdiately recognized who it was.

Yes, it was Jiang Ning.

Though she clearly recognized Jiang Ning, she didn’t look up and continued to play her ga.

Not until Jiang Ning approached and called out to her, did Xue Yuantong say nonchalantly,

“Back ho, huh?”

She proudly lifted her head, ready to give him a piece of her mind, but Xue Yuantong was taken aback the next second.

Jiang Ning’s face looked thinner and sowhat pale, tinged with weariness, completely lacking his usual spark.

In Xue Yuantong’s mory, he was always wearing a gentle smile.

“Sorry, I’m just too tired today,” Jiang Ning’s voice was deep and hoarse, laced with heavy fatigue.

All of Xue Yuantong’s petty thoughts vanished in an instant, and she hastily asked with concern,

“Jiang Ning, what’s wrong with you?”

She had never seen him like this before and suddenly didn’t know how to comfort him.

“Didn’t you eat dinner?” She pulled Jiang Ning by the wrist to the kitchen, sat him on a bench,

then ran to the stove, lifted the lid of the earthenware pot, revealing two plates of food—one with leftover stir-fried tripe from noon and another with fried green beans, plus three large stead buns.

She brought the dishes to the table and then uncovered the steaming pot: there was warm mung bean soup.

She ladled a large bowl for him, placed it in front of him, and also handed him chopsticks.

Then, she sat opposite him, obediently watching him eat.

Being served like this made Jiang Ning feel guilty; had he overplayed it?

Since he had lied, Jiang Ning had to keep up the act; he drank a couple of sips of mung bean soup, ate so vegetables, and visibly seed to feel better.

The worry on Xue Yuantong’s little face eased a bit.

Jiang Ning sighed and said, “I was too busy today, forgot to pick out a gift for you; I only have this.”

He pulled out a pink peach from his pocket; it was a Spiritual Peach he had picked on Hu Qi Mountain.

Xue Yuantong didn’t accept the peach as she usually did; she sat silently, her dark eyes reflecting soft ripples, and her lodious voice uttering with special earnestness,

“You don’t need to bring gifts; for you to co ho safe… that’s the best gift.”
