Because there were two others, Jiang Xinyu and Wei Kaiyun restrained themselves a lot. They mostly read their own books and rarely talked.
Jiang Xinyu felt particularly repressed, just really uncomfortable.
The two of them only chatted softly when eating.
"Honey, we’re about to reach the provincial capital. This is a major station where we stop for a long ti. Do you want to go see it?"
Jiang Xinyu shook her head. "No, there’s no point." Even though it’s not so hot now, it’s still uncomfortable with so many people around.
"I have to wait for the Managent Bureau to deliver so docunts, so I’ll go down and wait."
Jiang Xinyu nodded. She wasn’t interested in anything at the mont. Everything felt lackluster to her.
"Don’t be like this. How about I buy new tickets? We can go to another compartnt."
"No need, it’s unnecessary. They do affect , but not as much as you think. I just feel lethargic. Don’t worry, maybe it’s just that I don’t want to travel by train."
"Are you feeling unwell?"
"I’m fine."
After finishing their al, they returned to their own bunks. Jiang Xinyu read the newspaper with her furrowed brow never relaxing. What is this situation? So people are really arrogant.
Jiang Xinyu was fired up reading the newspaper, but she knew it was futile anger. Individually, she had no power to change anything realistically.
Lying in the upper bunk, the train swayed gently, and she soon fell asleep.
Wei Kaiyun continued reading down below. He noticed she wasn’t moving and knew she had fallen asleep again. Traveling long distances by train was really like this. There wasn’t much one could do about it. He had thought about driving before, but it was too far and things were sensitive, so she disagreed.
Wei Kaiyun noticed the two people across the compartnt suddenly left together. Watching them, he knew they had undergone special training, just like he had.
When they returned, they started packing their luggage. Were they getting off the train? At the provincial capital?
When did this place have such people? Wei Kaiyun frowned; peaceful tis were not easy to get by.
The sound of the station announcent woke Jiang Xinyu.
"Do you want to go down with ?"
Jiang Xinyu shook her head, "No, you go ahead. I’ll just stay here with the luggage."
Wei Kaiyun nodded, "It seems the two across are packing their luggage, likely to get off the train too?"
Jiang Xinyu nodded. She noticed the opposite bunks no longer had their luggage.
Feeling relieved now, she thought even chatting required caution to avoid trouble. Besides, they didn’t look like the kind of people you could talk casually with, no courage to strike up a conversation.
"Honey, do you want to eat sothing?"
"What’s there to eat? You go ahead and buy, if not, I’ll go out and take a stroll when you get back?"
Wei Kaiyun nodded and went out. The train was about to stop. It was ti for the Managent Bureau to hand over the application letter. Secretary Lu probably had sothing to discuss, maybe he could join on the train later, giving her more ti.
Wei Kaiyun knew his wife hated traveling by train; maybe it was those three trips to Russia that scared her off.
Jiang Xinyu also stayed put, seeing the crowded aisle outside, so she didn’t go out, just stayed in the compartnt.
Wei Kaiyun, after getting off the train, located the spot on the platform where he found Lu Weiqi and an official waiting for him.
"Director Wei."
Both greeted Wei Kaiyun. The Managent Bureau’s official handed him a folder. "Director Wei, this is the application letter and so docunts for them."
"May I look at them? Or is it confidential? Do I need to confirm the number of docunts?"
"Of course, they’re not confidential. It’s best to check them. I’ll hand them over to Director Wei personally."
Wei Kaiyun nodded and pulled out the docunts, checking them one by one with the official to ensure it was correct before the handover was done.
Previously, Wei Kaiyun wouldn’t have been this ticulous, but now things were different. He had to be cautious about everything, fearing sothing could be amiss.
"Director Wei, since we have clarified everything, I’ll be leaving now."
Wei Kaiyun nodded, "Thank you, Mr. Zhang."
"It’s my job, no need to thank , Director Wei." Mr. Zhang nodded to both and left.
"Secretary Lu, let’s return to the train to talk."
Lu Weiqi nodded and followed Wei Kaiyun back.
They entered the compartnt, where Jiang Xinyu was reading. As Lu Weiqi entered, she quickly stood up.
"Hello, Vice Factory Director Jiang."
"Hello, Secretary Lu."
"Why don’t you go see around? I didn’t see anything for sale earlier."
Jiang Xinyu nodded, "I’ll just take a stroll since staying in the train, sitting or lying down, is too uncomfortable. You two talk."
After she got off the train, standing on the platform, she found no vendors around. Although the provincial capital was a major station, there weren’t many people, aside from a few smoking, but they weren’t chatting like she’d seen before, and so travelers boarding.
Taking a stroll below, eyeing the ti, when she felt it was about right, she returned to the train.
After she ca back, Lu Weiqi bade farewell and left.
"Honey, how was it?"
Jiang Xinyu shook her head without saying anything. With no one on the opposite bunks, the two of them felt much more comfortable.
Until the third day, a new person entered the compartnt—a middle-aged woman with two kids.
The eldest seed about ten years old, and the younger one looked about four or five.
The compartnt beca lively with the kids’ chatter. The middle-aged woman seed oblivious, speaking loudly and never noticing how disruptive she was to others.
While they both went to the dining car for a al, "Honey, we have another week to go."
Wei Kaiyun could see she was really uncomfortable.
"It’s okay, I can endure. Don’t worry."
"Honey, I really think our kids are well-raised. Compared to those two, ours are far more disciplined."
Jiang Xinyu just smiled. It was all about the family environnt. Their children’s behavior was influenced beyond recognition by the adults at ho, of course.
"I’d love to see them for the New Year. Before coming, I called Old Yang. Shi Jing and Feifei know we’re headed to Shanghai.
Do you think I should resign?" Jiang Xinyu felt quite uncertain now.
"I hope you resign, not because I’m selfish. If you can’t, then I will. I’ll report back when we return."
"Are you sure you can?"
"We’ll never know until we try. I’m not certain, but if possible, I’ll be with the kids."
"Alright, we’ll both resign after returning from Shanghai and see whose gets approved."
