Wei Kaiyun hurriedly rode away, soone had to watch over the smoked at. His wife had been tired for a whole day; he couldn’t bear for her to continue.
Sister-in-law Wu looked at the large piece of pork, "Xiao Li, shall we salt it for curing?"
"Sister-in-law Wu, I’m craving at buns."
"Sure, no problem, chive and pork buns."
Old Yang called Guodong, Xiao Qiang, and Jing Chu to eat the braised pork.
"Did Uncle Wei bring this?"
"Yes, it’s from a wild boar, but it tastes really good."
"Indeed, when I have ti, I’ll join Uncle Wei to take a look up the mountain."
The three of them ate so and then went back to sleep. The autumn harvest was exhausting, even Jing Chu was slightly struggling to hold on.
Fortunately, the food at ho was good, otherwise, she would have collapsed.
Wei Kaiyun returned ho, added wood to the fire in the yard, and flipped the pork.
The children had long since gone to bed. This day had been no easy task.
"You go back to sleep; I can watch over things here."
"No need, you go and rest."
Jiang Xinyu sat beside Wei Kaiyun, leaning on his shoulder. The two sat by the fire.
"Let’s avoid going up the mountain these days; we’re not short of anything," Wei Kaiyun was truly startled.
"Yeah, I’m tired too. Once it rains, we can just pick so pine mushrooms or whatever."
"Okay. Then I’ll accompany you. Tomorrow, I’ll go chop firewood."
"Alright, we won’t delay you any further."
"The wild boar has already made it to our table, I’m not in a rush," Jiang Xinyu giggled, not adding more. Talking too much might bring criticism soon.
After a while, Wei Kaiyun hugged Jiang Xinyu, "Darling, you go to sleep. I’ll go in shortly as well."
"Right, no need to turn them anymore now. Let’s sleep together; or maybe you shouldn’t go up the mountain tomorrow, take a day to rest at ho."
Even though he was exhausted, Wei Kaiyun accompanied his wife to bed, saying he couldn’t feel at ease otherwise.
Jiang Xinyu inwardly scoffed at him, thinking he was just making excuses for his rogue behavior.
In the latter half of the night, Wei Kaiyun went out to check again and only when he saw the fire had gone out did he return inside to sleep peacefully.
Early the next morning, Sister-in-law Liu got up and hung all the smoked at in the side room. She also dried the collected mushrooms. Only then did she start steaming the buns.
Early in the morning, having at buns to eat, everyone at ho felt life was too happy.
Today, Wei Kaiyun went to the mountains by himself, and Jiang Xinyu stayed ho to watch the two kids.
Shi Xian wised up and wouldn’t sleep, eagerly looking at his mom.
"You little clever one, Mommy isn’t going out today. Go to sleep quickly, look, your sister is already asleep," Jiang Xinyu smiled and tapped his nose.
Once the children fell asleep, she prepared two large basins of spices. Then the two started chopping pork.
After soaking overnight, the blood had seeped out, but the color didn’t look very nice.
However, when Jiang Xinyu blended the spices, she added a lot of soy sauce and dark soy sauce, so the color wouldn’t look too bad.
Because there was a lot of lean at, and wild boar at is rather lean, they both chopped it fairly finely.
During the sausage stuffing, the three children were extrely curious and sat by to help.
At first, they made pure at sausages, which were hung raw in the side room.
Three complete walls were filled, and the remaining basin of at filling was made into blood sausages, which had to be stead.
Jiang Xinyu used a comprehensive blend of spices, resulting in an especially fragrant aroma.
Today was the day Li Yunqiao returned. As he entered the village, he slled the at aroma, different from braising at, an indescribable fragrance.
He hurriedly returned to his brother’s house, finding the main gate locked; everyone was working.
Li Yunqiao was once a skilled worker too, so he thought that the won and children must be at the wheat field and rode his bike over. Li Xue saw her father first, imdiately stood up happily, and ran over.
"Dad, you’re back?"
"Yes, our Xue is tanned," Li Yunqiao sighed.
"It’s alright, Dad, I like this kind of life."
"Good, stay here then, but when your eldest sister-in-law has a baby, you have to go back and help."
Li Xue nodded with a smile.
Qu Xiaoli, seeing her brother-in-law was back, imdiately stood up and let her younger son, Cheng Lin, go call Li Yungui.
"Brother, go ho and rest."
At this ti, the village elders were all talking to Li Yunqiao.
"Sister-in-law, I’m not going, I’ll do a bit of work here and chat with everyone."
"Alright, I’ll go back and cook. Brother, just sit on our family’s bench."
Qu Xiaoli brushed the dust off her clothes and laughingly went ho.
She, too, slled the fragrance and inwardly envied Teacher Jiang’s family but felt no jealousy.
Such is life; when you’re capable, whatever you do seems normal. Although envy exists, it won’t lead to maliciousness.
She wasn’t even at her doorstep when she heard shouting.
"Auntie, Auntie."
"Jianbin, slow down, I hear you."
"Auntie, Aunt Jiang asked to bring this to you."
"Thank you, Jianbin. I just got back from the field, otherwise, no one would be at ho."
Jianbin chuckled, following Qu Xiaoli ho; he had to take back the family’s basket.
When she cleared out the basket, Qu Xiaoli found it was a piece of raw pork.
"Jianbin, thank Aunt Jiang for ."
"I know, Auntie, I’m heading back."
"Okay, take care."
Looking at the piece of at, Qu Xiaoli thought to herself how thoughtful Teacher Jiang was. Still, she couldn’t take undue advantage of others and planned to return the favor when she could.
With her brother-in-law back, it was indeed a feast. Yesterday’s braised pig lung still had half left, along with the cured at and fresh lean pork from today.
at buns were in order then; she had risen the dough this morning, initially planning on making stead buns, which worked out well since there would now be at buns to enjoy.
Li Yungui hurried back after his younger son told him that his elder brother was at the wheat field. Seeing Li Yunqiang, he quickly asked him to co ho for lunch.
"Second brother, I’m not coming. I’ll cook today, you don’t have to worry about , I’ll co over in the afternoon."
Li Yungui felt helpless. His brother was truly sothing, always treating his wife so well. During the busy farming season every year, he would cook, being the most fortunate among all the brothers to have a good wife.
He reached the wheat field and saw his elder brother picking peanuts while chatting with the seniors.
"Gui Zi, you’re here?"
"Yes, Cheng Lin told his big uncle ca back, so I ca to take a look."
In a farr’s eyes, there’s always work to be done. Though Li Yungui talked, his hands were also busy picking peanuts.
This needs to be delivered cleanly, and even the small ones or single grains wouldn’t suffice.
As Li Yunqiao only returned once or twice a year, everyone cared about him a lot and asked many questions.
