"Big bro, I’m sorry!"
"Sorry? What’s the use of saying sorry? Huh? From the day Xiao Xi was born till now she’s never suffered like this, and you think you can earn my forgiveness with three light little words? Not happening!" Staring straight at Wang Wei, who was bowing to him at a full ninety degrees, Jing Chen’s face was so dark it looked like water was about to drip out.
"Bro..." Jing Xi tugged at her brother’s sleeve, shake, and shook it again.
"Your head’s not clear right now, I can’t just go along with you." Jing Chen glared at his sister, then looked at Wang Wei. "You’ve been with Xiao Xi for so long, and you still don’t know what kind of temper she has?
Using that kind of method to trick her was basically pushing her into the fire pit! Good thing Luo Ye was in Sha City. If Xiao Xi couldn’t find her and did something crazy, would you be able to live with that for the rest of your life?"
"Big bro, I was wrong!" Wang Wei bent even lower.
"Saying you’re wrong is easy, but what does it actually solve?"
Wang Wei straightened up, looking solemnly at Jing Chen. "Big bro, no matter how much I say now, I can’t make up for what I’ve done. How about this: watch what I do from now on. If... if I ever let Xiao Xi down again, you can chop me or skin me, whatever you want. I won’t plain half a word!"
"So you’re still planning to have chances to let Xiao Xi down..."
Listening to her brother lecture Wang Wei on and on like Tang Seng, Jing Xi looked to Luo Ye for help, only to see the other girl already collapsed over the table laughing. The other two young ladies were even worse, directly crumpled onto the floor laughing. As for the two handsome guys, one had no expression at all (Ye Xuan), and the other was putting on a "staring at the ceiling" act—look closely and the corner of his mouth was twitching nonstop.
Is it really that funny? Thinking that, Jing Xi couldn’t help laughing too. Her big brother’s expression was like he’d just chugged a whole jar of Shanxi aged vinegar. Obviously, the way she threw herself into Wang Wei’s arms just now had made him jealous.
Thinking of that, Jing Xi suddenly felt guilty.
Ever since they were kids, her relationship with her brother had been great—she could even say that the way her brother took care of her was more attentive than Mom and Dad. Before she met Wang Wei, the person she was closest to was her brother; at the time she even thought, when she found a boyfriend, he had to be just like her brother.
But when did she start losing her dependence and respect for her brother? She’d even cursed him for being useless... The more Jing Xi thought about it, the more she regretted it. She stepped forward and took the arm of Jing Chen, who was still lecturing away. "Bro, I’m sorry."
That one "sorry" from his little sister instantly shut Jing Chen up. After a long moment, he let out a weary sigh. "Silly girl, what are you apologizing for? Forget it, I’ll stop scolding him."
"Bro, that’s not what I meant, I really do think I was wrong." Jing Xi sniffled as she tried to explain.
"From now on, treat my sister well. Don’t make her sad again. This girl’s been simple-hearted since she was little—if you really betray her, it’d basically be taking her life." Seeing Jing Xi like this, Jing Chen’s heart softened. His tone was still scolding, but his expression had relaxed a lot.
Wang Wei nodded repeatedly. "Yes, yes, I definitely will, Big bro. Are we going back today or tomorrow? Should we call Mom and Dad first to let them know?"
Jing Chen looked at his sister. "Xiao Xi, when do you want to go back?"
"I’ll do whatever you say, Bro."
Jing Chen checked the time. "If we go back today, we’ll probably get home in the middle of the night. Not only will we not get any rest, we’ll disturb Mom and Dad’s sleep too. Let’s just go tomorrow."
"Okay." Jing Xi and Wang Wei answered in unison.
Jing Chen, however, turned a blank face toward Wang Wei. "You go back first. I’m guessing your side of the business has already been delayed plenty. Even for Xiao Xi’s sake, you can’t afford to let your work slip too much."
Wang Wei gave a wry smile. "Big bro, one more day won’t make a difference. Let’s just leave together tomorrow. This afternoon I want to take Xiao Xi around a bit and buy some gifts for Mom and Dad."
"Bro..." Jing Xi looped her arms around her brother’s neck, acting cutesy. "He’s already e all this way, let’s just go back together. Actually, this kind of counts as my first trip with him. Bro..."
"Alright, alright." pletely defenseless against his sister’s spoiled act, Jing Chen sighed helplessly. "Girls really can’t be kept once they grow up. You two decide for yourselves."
So this was like an indirect approval, right? Wang Wei’s mood instantly skyrocketed, and he looked at Jing Chen in high spirits. "Thanks, Big bro. In a bit I’ll book the plane tickets first, then take Xiao Xi out shopping."
Jing Chen waved his hand, indicating his agreement.
With the big brother problem settled, Wang Wei turned to the issue between himself and Luo Ye. "Luo Ye, what I said still stands. From now on, thirty percent of my ad agency’s profits will go to Liangyou Elderly Home."
"You’d better discuss that with Jing Xi first."
Jing Xi hurriedly chimed in, "I agree. I’m fine with donating even more."
Wang Wei gave a bitter smile. "Given the situation right now, donating more doesn’t seem very realistic. Xiao Xi, let’s take it step by step, okay?"
Jing Xi nodded obediently. "I’ll listen to you."
Xing Nong couldn’t help poking Luo Ye. "This is what a model virtuous wife and good mother looks like, right? Luoluo, have a private talk with your Ye Xuan later, don’t let him think all women are like this."
Luo Ye pinched her once but didn’t say anything.
"I mean it. Your Ye Xuan saw the whole thing from beginning to end. I think you’d better ring a little alarm bell for him, or he might be disappointed in the future."
Ye Xuan gave Xing Nong a cool glance. "No need for alarm bells. I know exactly what kind of temper Ye’er has."
Xing Nong hunched her neck, stuck out her tongue, and didn’t dare talk nonsense anymore. How could she forget that these two were total monsters—those ears of theirs worked even better than a dog’s.
Luo Ye narrowed her eyes at Ye Xuan. "What’s that supposed to mean? From the way you said it, are you calling me bad-tempered?"
"Dummy." Ye Xuan rubbed Luo Ye’s head, a smile all over his face. Clearly, he quite enjoyed watching her bristle like a little hedgehog.
"Oh my god, oh my god..." Xing Nong dramatically slapped her hands over her eyes. "Good thing I already know Boss Ye belongs to Luoluo, otherwise, with my level of self-control, my soul would’ve been hooked right out of me. You’d better smile less in front of other people from now on. This level of damage is about to catch up with a nuclear bomb."
Yaoguang immediately chimed in, "Totally agree!"
Qu Yue hurriedly raised her hand. "I’m safe! I’m safe! Luoluo, from a safety perspective, I’m still the best option."
"She’s mine, nobody gets any ideas." Ye Xuan pulled Luo Ye into his arms in one go, softened his voice, and said, "Everything’s settled now. Let’s head home for a bit. Great Grandpa’s probably anxious from waiting."
Thinking about how Jing Xi’s situation had been perfectly resolved, she really didn’t need to stay here any longer. She nodded. "Okay, let’s go back now." Then she looked over at Jing Chen and the others. "Once you’ve settled on a flight, give me a call. I’ll take you to the airport tomorrow."
Jing Chen waved his hand. "Luo Ye, I know you’re a busy person too, no need to run back and forth. We’ll just grab a car to the airport tomorrow. I won’t say any more thank-yous. Let’s all get together at New Year."
"Works for me. I won’t stand on ceremony with you."
Xing Nong tugged Yaoguang up. "We’re going to visit Grandma and Grandpa too."
"They’re not in Sha City, they stayed in Island City to keep my Grandpa pany. But Qiu’er..." Remembering how Lu Lu had reminded Xing Nong before they left that she had to e home with him tonight, Luo Ye looked at her with a half-smile. "You’re not going to Lu Lu’s place—sure that’s okay?"
Mou Qiu instantly deflated like a punctured balloon and slumped back into her chair. "Couldn’t you just not remind me?"
"Sure, but the consequences after that..." Luo Ye trailed off and didn’t go on.
Xing Nong shivered. "Okay, thanks for the reminder."
There was this one time she and Lu Lu had agreed to go catch a movie, and she pletely forgot. The consequence was that for the entire following month, every bit of her free time had to be spent with Lu Lu.
She did want to rebel, but she believed that if she dared to disobey, he would absolutely be willing to risk everything and stick to her every single day after that. And if that happened... she might as well be killed!
As the saying goes, one misstep brings a lifetime of regret—but for her, it was one kiss that brought a lifetime of regret! How did she not realize back then that behind that obedient, good-boy façade, there was actually a demon living in his heart?
Seeing how pitiful she looked, Yaoguang patted her sympathetically. "How about this—I’ll risk my life and go with you."
"Demon, I love you to death!" Xing Nong threw her arms around Yaoguang and started planting wild kisses.
Yaoguang dodged left and right. "Quit it, quit it, you’re drooling on my face. If you don’t stop, I’m not going with you anymore!"
...
When Luo Ye and Ye Xuan got back to Wen’s Mansion, Grand Old Master Ye was teaching Ah Hua and Aji how to practice tai chi. From a distance, when he saw the two of them ing, he squinted his eyes with delight and waved them over.
Luo Ye quickened her steps to stand beside him. "Grandma Hua and Grandpa Ji have really got the moves down, and their faces look much rosier too."
Grand Old Master Ye gave a mischievous grin. "They want to look good on their wedding day, of course they’ve got to work out."
"Uncle Ye!" Ah Hua gave a playful scold, her face full of shy color.
Luo Ye couldn’t help teasing, "Tsk tsk, Grandma Hua now totally looks like an eighteen-year-old girl."
"Ye’er, you little brat, bullying me."
Aji laughed sheepishly. "Heh heh... Actually, Ye’er’s pretty spot-on. You really do look eighteen now."
"Love really is magical." Luo Ye clicked her tongue in amazement, her face full of wonder. Ever since Ah Hua and Aji’s wedding was set, the two of them had absolutely entered a reverse-aging phase. Not only were their faces getting younger and younger, even their personalities were being more and more adorable.
"Ye’er, have you thought it through?" Grand Old Master Ye looked at Luo Ye with earnest eyes. "I don’t want to pressure you, but I really do want to bee a Great-great-grandpa."
Luo Ye gave him an obvious once-over. "With the way you’re built, even if we get married twenty years from now, you’ll still be fine."
Grand Old Master Ye grinned so wide his teeth were all you could see. "I’m relieved now. Ye’er’s already agreed to be my granddaughter-in-law. No matter when you get married, this Great-great-grandpa will be happy!"
Realizing she’d walked right into his trap, Luo Ye stomped her foot in protest. "I’m not talking to you anymore! I’m going to find little aunt for a chat."
"Ye’er’s shy now?" Grand Old Master Ye burst out laughing and patted Ye Xuan, who was silently standing at the side. "Kid, aren’t you ashamed? For something like this, you still need Great-great-grandpa to step in."
