Su Sha’s questioning left Su Miao gasping with a mix of frustration and amusent: "You’re about to beco a mother-in-law yourself, how co you can’t recognize what’s good for you? So by your logic, if I bad-mouth Ye Jia’an, say Xiao Xuan is no good, and back you up in causing trouble with them, that makes your real sister? I’m starting to wonder if you’ve been living with your head up a dog’s..."
"Hey, what kind of language is that? If you’re just calling to give grief, just hang up!" Su Sha angrily ended the call with a "snap," sitting there panting heavily.
Hearing the "beep beep" from the receiver, Su Miao smiled bitterly and slapped her forehead in annoyance before redialing.
"Ding-a-ling-a-ling..."
Su Sha frowned and yanked the phone cord out.
...
Ye Xuan was in the middle of a shower when his phone began to ring insistently, so he grabbed a large towel, quickly wrapped it around himself, and rushed out to answer the call.
It was Su Miao on the phone, apologizing and telling him that Su Sha wouldn’t answer her calls, advising him not to worry and promising to have Grandma talk to Su Sha later.
After thanking his aunt and hanging up, Ye Xuan found himself lost in thought.
Throughout his life, Su Sha had always indulged him in everything. This ti, however, she was unexpectedly stubborn, maintaining a non-committal attitude during their previous discussions.
Though he reassured Luo Ye saying that his mom would eventually co around, he genuinely had no idea when she might actually do so. Without resolving this issue, his heart was constantly in a state of apprehension.
Probably no one else in the world was more aware of Luo Ye’s uniqueness than he was. He and Jiang Zheng certainly wouldn’t have had the chance to witness it had there not been a compelling reason.
Thus, having confessed his feelings to her, he no longer saw her age as an obstacle. Her ntal maturity was no less than his own, which was why he constantly swayed between hope and fear.
Luo Ye, with her carefree deanor, was likely too laid-back to engage in any spats with a bunch of won. Looking at his own mom’s entanglents, Second Aunt’s scheming, and his eldest sister’s calculations... The more he thought about it, the more his head ached.
"Thump thump thump..."
Snapped back to reality by the knocking, Ye Xuan called out, "Wait a mont."
But before he could get to his feet, the door swung open, and Su Sha entered with reddened eyes.
Ye Xuan frowned uncomfortably at her: "Mom, you..."
"I gave birth to you, what’s there I can’t see?" Su Sha made herself comfortable on the sofa. "Sit down, have a talk with your mom."
Scratching his head, Ye Xuan replied, "Give five minutes."
"Alright." As Su Sha responded, she looked her son over, smiling with pride: "If Xiao Xuan were in a beauty contest, he’d definitely win first place!"
Scrambling into the bathroom like a man fleeing, Ye Xuan briskly finished his shower, changed clothes, took a deep breath, and ca out to sit down. "Okay, Mom, speak your mind."
Su Sha examined her son closely and after a long mont, she sighed. "Xiao Xuan, have you really set your heart on Ye’er? Do you have to have her and no one else?"
"Yes!" Ye Xuan nodded firmly.
"What if your mom really can’t get over her internal hurdle about her, what if she just can’t accept her? Would you... would you hate your mother?" Su Sha looked at her son uncertainly.
"Why can’t you overco this hurdle, Mom?" Ye Xuan paused briefly. "Aunt and Grandma ntioned that you liked Dad for a long ti, but back then, he only had eyes for Aunt Wen.
Your chance ca after Dad and Aunt Wen called off their engagent, but ever since you got married, have you ever fully trusted him? With an existing barrier in his heart, how could he open up to you with your suspicions?
To outsiders, your relationship with Dad may look exemplary, but we all know the reality. Actually, I think you should be thankful to Aunt Wen. If she hadn’t given up, you and Dad would never have been together."
"Xiao Xuan, I’m aware of all that, but feelings aren’t sothing you can just control at will." Su Sha clutched her head in pain. "If Xiao Xuan ignores his mom for the sake of Ye’er, then I will beco even more dispensable in this family."
Patting Su Sha on the back, Ye Xuan reassured her, "Mom, it’s all down to your mindset. If you see it clearly, your relationship with Dad would also get better and better. If you don’t, all of us will only beco more entangled and distant from one another.
Saying all this, you might think I’m the typical example of a son who forgets his mother when he gets a wife. I don’t want to argue too much. I just hope you can open your heart and try to understand Ye’er.
If after getting to know her, you still hold on to your views, then I’ll consult with Ye’er and we won’t live at the Ye Family after our marriage, how about that?"
"No way!" Su Sha almost leapt up. "You are the direct grandson of the Ye Family. If you don’t live in the Ye Family, Father-in-law and Mother-in-law will bla . Give ti, Xiao Xuan. Let try to accept Ye’er. Trust , okay?"
