She was rely admiring the scenery of this courtyard and wanted to take a look inside. Little did she know, she would encounter a familiar face, and one she considered dangerous.
Nangong Chen stared at Jiang Xue, unable to move his gaze for quite a while. He was equally surprised to find Jiang Xue at his doorstep, which left him montarily stunned.
"Miss Jiang!" After a mont, Nangong Chen ca to his senses and greeted her with a grin. Ever since they parted ways in Xu City, he thought he’d never see her again. Yet unexpectedly, she appeared right at his doorstep.
Moreover, she seed quite interested in his courtyard. The thought excited Nangong Chen as he said, "I heard Miss Jiang has taken a liking to my courtyard?"
The reason Nangong Chen ca out was because he heard from the gatekeeper that so guests wanted to tour his courtyard. He had nothing else to do, so he decided to see which fool dared to tour Nangong Chen’s courtyard.
After all, everyone in this area, even all of Beijing, knows that tours are never permitted at his Chen Courtyard, and thus, rarely anyone makes such requests.
Even out-of-towners, upon refusal by the gatekeeper, would typically leave. Yet, unexpectedly, Jiang Xue and her company not only refused to leave but also asked to see the hoowner.
With idle ti on his hands, he decided to co out for a look, only to be t with an old acquaintance.
"Not interested!" Mu Qiancheng replied coldly on behalf of Jiang Xue. The last thing he expected was that Jiang Xue’s favored courtyard belonged to Nangong Chen. Had he known, he wouldn’t have bothered negotiating with the gatekeeper to discuss with the hoowner.
"Mr. Mu, I don’t recall asking you?" Nangong Chen gave Mu Qiancheng a casual glance before looking at Jiang Xue and saying, "Miss Jiang, please co in!"
Jiang Xue looked at Mu Qiancheng, then at the courtyard in front of her, and hesitated. She really admired the scenery in this garden, and if it belonged to soone else, she might even muster the courage to plead for entry.
But now, knowing its owner is Nangong Chen—a man she always deed dangerous and possibly privy to her secrets—she instinctively wanted no involvent with him.
"Thank you, but no thank you!" Jiang Xue eventually shook her head, intending to leave. Despite the picturesque views, for safety’s sake, she decided against it.
Mu Qiancheng watched Jiang Xue decline Nangong Chen’s offer with delight and took Jiang Xue’s hand, saying, "Xue’er, since you don’t want to stay, let’s go. There are many more courtyards ahead, and their scenery should be just as lovely."
"Alright!" Jiang Xue smiled and nodded, then said to Nangong Chen, "Mr. Nangong, goodbye!"
However, just two steps into their departure, Nangong Chen suddenly spoke, saying, "Miss Jiang, Mr. Mu, please wait a mont."
"Mr. Nangong, what is it?" Jiang Xue and Mu Qiancheng stopped and turned to ask Nangong Chen.
"Miss Jiang, Mr. Mu, aren’t we acquaintances of sorts? Now that you’ve arrived at my doorstep, shouldn’t I fulfill the role of host?"
"Besides, Miss Jiang, you’re my savior. It’s only customary to invite a benefactor into one’s ho, wouldn’t you say?"
"Mr. Nangong, regarding the life-saving favor, you’ve already sent a thank-you gift, so let’s consider it settled."
"However, we have other matters today, so apologies, but we must be on our way." With that, Jiang Xue paid no further heed to Nangong Chen and walked off with Mu Qiancheng.
