Looking at the shy little wife, Mu Qiancheng chuckled softly. That low laughter, like a feather, gently brushed Jiang Xue’s heart, bringing her a tingling, novel sensation.
"Stop it, you’re still laughing, still laughing!" Jiang Xue, feeling even more embarrassed by Mu Qiancheng’s laughter, playfully swung her pink fist, hitting Mu Qiancheng.
Jiang Xue’s fists didn’t have much strength, hitting Mu Qiancheng’s body was just like a light scratch, making him both enjoy and delight in it.
The two lingered together for a while, and only when they saw soone coming did they let go. Jiang Xue, with a flushed face, glanced at Mu Qiancheng and said, "Since you don’t object to buying a house here, I’ll go look at houses after my dad finishes his surgery."
"Okay, just be careful. Call if anything cos up." Mu Qiancheng said as he took out a piece of paper with phone numbers from his pocket and handed it to Jiang Xue, saying, "This is my unit’s number, keep it, and rember to call if anything happens."
"Sure!" Jiang Xue tucked the note away and then accompanied Mu Qiancheng to the station.
Watching Mu Qiancheng get on the bus, Jiang Xue opened her mouth as if to speak but eventually said nothing.
"Go back, be careful on the road." Mu Qiancheng sat down on the bus, opened the window, and reminded Jiang Xue again.
"Alright!" Jiang Xue smiled, then turned and left under Mu Qiancheng’s gaze.
Back at the hospital, Father Jiang had not yet rested. Seeing his daughter return, he smiled and asked, "Sent Qiancheng off?"
"Mm!" Jiang Xue responded with a smile, noticing so fruits nearby, so she said, "Dad, let peel an apple for you to eat, okay?"
Without waiting for Father Jiang to speak, she picked up an apple and started peeling it. Mrs. Jiang returned with water, and upon seeing Jiang Xue peel the apple’s skin off, spoke with a heartache, "Child, why did you peel off the apple skin? Such a waste."
Jiang Xue was taken aback, looking at Mrs. Jiang, and didn’t react for quite a while.
When Mrs. Jiang was truly about to pick up the peeled apple skins, Jiang Xue ca to her senses and said to Mrs. Jiang, "Mom, don’t pick them up, they’re dirty."
Mrs. Jiang looked down and saw they were indeed dirty, had no choice but to stop. But she still said, "What a pity."
Hearing this, Jiang Xue’s heart felt uneasy. She knew Mrs. Jiang wasn’t stingy; it was just that the family wasn’t financially well-off. And with Father Jiang sick all the ti, the household beca even tighter.
Normally, they couldn’t even afford apples, let alone money to buy at. If not for raising so chickens and ducks at ho, they wouldn’t be able to afford nutrition supplents for Father Jiang.
"Mom, don’t worry, I’ll let you eat apples every day in the future." Jiang Xue said seriously to Mrs. Jiang, silently vowing to herself that once she made money, she would buy them fruits to eat every day.
"You!" Mrs. Jiang looked at Jiang Xue and smiled, feeling comforted yet not quite believing her words. Apples aren’t cheap now; a jin costs five to six mao.
With that money, there are better things to buy. She wouldn’t spend on apples. Moreover, in rural areas, folks usually eat fruits grown at ho and rarely buy them outside.
Once the apple was peeled, Jiang Xue took a taste and then handed it to Father Jiang.
"Mom, you eat too!" Jiang Xue passed another unpeeled apple to Mrs. Jiang, but Mrs. Jiang didn’t take it, saying, "You eat it yourself."
"Mom, I’ve eaten, you eat."
