All of a sudden, Xiao Yu rembered everything. All of a sudden, he understood. He understood what this necktie ultimately signified, and who had sent this necktie.
Xiao Yu understood these things, but from within them even more doubts could be inferred.
“You are still alive, are you still alive?” Xiao Yu murmured, as he controlled his vast fleet and various instrunts to begin a slow movent, finally arranging them into a colossal array telescope aid at that dim speck of light two million two hundred thousand light-years away.
There lay the Androda Galaxy, the Milky Way’s neighbor, the nearest vast galaxy to the Milky Way.
Xiao Yu’s technology was already advanced enough, advanced even to the point of distinguishing, at a distance of several million light-years, a dim red dwarf star far away. Thus Xiao Yu silently observed everything within the Androda Galaxy, watching its planets move, watching its stars burn or explode.
That was another world. In that world there were also many stories, whether splendid or tragic, but the vast distance filtered out all that information. Xiao Yu could not perceive the mysteries within that faraway galaxy. Precisely because of this, it made him yearn for it even more, because Xiao Yu knew that a certain person was very likely there.
Yes, a person. The ‘person’ ntioned here was not a general term for intelligent beings, but an actual person, a human.
That human’s na was Chen Mo.
Xiao Yu finally understood. Because was not the first ti Xiao Yu had seen this necktie. Back in the Earth era, Xiao Yu had seen it once. At that ti, it was either the second or third year after Chen Mo entered Xiao Yu’s research institute, although Xiao Yu could no longer rember the exact ti. These mories were the original mories carried upon Xiao Yu’s soul. These mories could not, like what Xiao Yu saw and heard after fusing with the computer, be stored in a data storage device. Precisely because of this, when Xiao Yu first set eyes on this necktie, he did not recall what it was.
Xiao Yu rembered that day was his own birthday. But as a workaholic, Xiao Yu naturally ignored this matter. Xiao Yu believed that rather than wasting ti on it, it would be better to go look at various data in the laboratory. But it seed Chen Mo had not forgotten. During the noon break, Chen Mo knocked on Xiao Yu’s door.
Xiao Yu could no longer clearly recall Chen Mo’s expression at that ti. He only rembered that Chen Mo was very ill at ease, very nervous back then. With slightly trembling hands she held out that item and said in a voice as low as a mosquito’s buzz, “Director Xiao, today is your birthday. Happy birthday. This is my gift to you.”
That gift was this necktie.
Xiao Yu rembered that at the ti he was vexed because a certain experint’s progress was not going smoothly. And Xiao Yu had never been a person of particularly good temper. So Xiao Yu did not pay much attention to Chen Mo. He rely said faintly, “Thanks, leave it here. I still need to think. If there is nothing else, please go out first.”
It was only a small matter, and Xiao Yu quickly forgot it. As for the ultimate fate of that necktie, Xiao Yu also could not quite rember. It seed, as far as Xiao Yu recalled, that when he went out the door he casually tossed it into the trash can.
That was the entire course of events.
“You are still alive, are you still alive? How did you end up in the Androda Galaxy…” Xiao Yu murmured, his longing and questions welling up together.
Xiao Yu had suspected that this event might be like the last ti with his future self, rely a deception, but after what the spatial lifeform said about helping him eliminate a civilization that posed a great threat to him, and since it put forward no demands upon him, that suspicion more or less dissipated.
“What kind of mode of existence are you now? What is your situation? I, I care about you very much.” Xiao Yu murmured. “Even after going to the Androda Galaxy, you still did not forget , who is situated in the Milky Way. Thank you, thank you. This necktie is the best gift I have received in my life. I will keep it safe. Even if I die I will not allow the slightest mishap to befall it.”
At this mont Xiao Yu truly had too many doubts. If this necktie really had been given to him by Chen Mo, then where was Chen Mo now? In the Androda Galaxy? But how did she reach the Androda Galaxy? What was her current mode of existence? What was her situation?
“I will definitely go to the Androda Galaxy to find you, definitely. Chen Mo, you must wait for , you must.”
Never before had there been such a mont that made Xiao Yu so urgently wish to leave the Milky Way and go to another galaxy. Because Xiao Yu knew that the person most important to him was very likely waiting for him there.
“Have you understood?” the spatial lifeform asked.
“I have understood.” Xiao Yu replied.
“Very well, I will go first. I have observed that civilization which poses a great threat to you for nearly a century. It is ti to make a move. I will destroy it and clear away the obstacle on your road forward. This is also what my commissioner instructed to do.”
“The civilization you speak of that poses a great threat to , which civilization is it?” Xiao Yu asked. “Is it the Sweeper Civilization, or the Guardian Civilization? Or the Taihao Civilization, the Alien Beast Civilization?”
“I am not clear about the classifications of civilizations within your Milky Way,” the spatial lifeform answered. “I only know that this civilization possesses a terrifying war fortress, which was made by transforming a neutron star.”
“Then it is the Sweeper Civilization.” Xiao Yu said. “You are not within the scope of a Level 7 Civilization. In fact, I have little confidence in your confronting a Neutron War Star. So ti ago, there was a civilization from the Large Magellanic Cloud whose mode of existence was similar to yours and it attempted to oppose a Neutron War Star, but it t with failure.”
“Oh? A civilization with a mode of existence similar to mine?” the spatial lifeform asked with great interest. “What was its mode of existence like?”
Xiao Yu pondered a mont and answered, “It had a half Four-Dinsional structure. Its body could extend into Four-Dinsional space but could not move within the Four-Dinsional space. Its body had no substance either, and it seed that it too used space as its body.”
“If I am not mistaken, that fellow’s origin should have been an Alien Beast Civilization.” the spatial lifeform said, its tone turning a bit mocking. “It chose space as its breakthrough direction, but how could the marvels of space possibly be fully grasped by a foolish alien beast. What is most astonishing is that it actually achieved sothing in this respect. But since it was wrong from the very beginning, any achievents thereafter were only the last radiance before final destruction. My mode of existence is not the sa as its own. From the mont I was born, I used space as my body. I am a pure spatial lifeform.”
“You may be very puzzled why you cannot detect my body. In truth, I do not exist within this three-dinsional world, or rather, I exist within the two-dinsional space of this three-dinsional world.”
As the spatial lifeform spoke, all of a sudden a light screen appeared before Xiao Yu. This light screen was huge, at least ten thousand kiloters in length and width. Strangely, it had no thickness. That is to say, its thickness was zero. It was like a sheet of paper and yet not a sheet of paper, because no matter how thin a sheet of paper is made, it still has thickness.
A thickness of zero would signify nonexistence. Yet it truly existed. It had width and length.
This was a mode of existence that completely exceeded the limits of Xiao Yu’s imagination. Xiao Yu had always believed that a two-dinsional world might exist and that in a two-dinsional world two-dinsional lifeforms might also exist. But a two-dinsional world itself being a lifeform was sowhat beyond imagination.
“There are many wondrous things in the universe, many existences you cannot imagine.” the spatial lifeform said. “As far as I know, there also exist three-dinsional lifeforms in this universe, and even one-dinsional and zero-dinsional lifeforms. But I have not encountered lifeforms exceeding three dinsions. I believe that lifeforms beyond three dinsions, such as four-dinsional lifeforms, are not suited to this universe. Superfluous dinsions are aningless.”
“So it is.” Xiao Yu said. “Perhaps the evolutionary direction of the half Four-Dinsional Taihao was wrong from the very start. However, can you truly not tell anything about that commissioner?”
“Regrettably, I cannot tell you.” the spatial lifeform said. “Very well, I have completed this task and should go complete the next one. Goodbye.”
“Wait a mont.” Xiao Yu imdiately sent a ssage. “Then did that commissioner have any words for you to pass on to ?”
“No,” the spatial lifeform said. “It only said that upon seeing this, mm, upon seeing this necktie, you would understand. As for the rest, I know nothing. Even if I did know, I could not tell you.”
“Very well.” Xiao Yu said sowhat helplessly. “In that case, I still must thank you. By the way, you must be cautious when confronting the Sweeper Civilization. The Sweeper Civilization is too powerful. I still do not believe you can achieve victory in a war against the Sweeper Civilization.”
“That is not sothing you need to be concerned about.” the spatial lifeform replied. “Whether it succeeds or not has nothing to do with you. I rely accepted the commissioner’s commission to co here and complete a task.”
Having said this, the spatial lifeform would not linger any longer and turned to leave directly. Watching the spatial fluctuation that represented the spatial lifeform gradually recede, Xiao Yu actually felt a touch of lancholy and sense of loss in his heart.
