The Noodle Man in front of Daphne was the sa one who once questioned her.
Even though he had criticized her in the past, he was still promoted by Daphne.
After all, his work ethic was still extraordinarily strong.
Upon hearing Daphne’s words now, the Noodle Man let out a slight sigh.
For a split second, he even considered leaving.
But recalling his belongings back in Earth City, and the gambling thoughts he had before, he couldn’t bring himself to say anything more.
He bowed respectfully to Daphne before leaving.
Daphne sat alone on a large chair in her office, which was converted from a colossal military vehicle, allowing for a quick escape if there were an ergency.
Gazing out of the full-length office windows onto the bustling Earth City crowds below, she found an increasing scarcity of life forms on the ground as seen from her vantage point on the seventh or eighth floor.
“Ah…” The woman let out an exasperated sigh, her voice echoing her helplessness.
Inside a rather small pub in Earth City where there weren’t many custors, a group of children sat huddled in a corner, each accompanied by a towering, robotic cleaner.
These children were all orphans in Earth City.
They all found places to study and work in Earth City.
But at this mont, the children were unmotivated and lazily hidden in this pub corner.
“Lulu, do you think the Uncle Mo Cai we t a few days ago left?
I haven’t seen him for several days now.” Kaga said, as he glanced around the bar’s not-so-crowded interior and ducked his head back underneath the table.
Next to him was a young girl with rabbit-like ears, who was also trying to keep a low profile.
Even though these holess children could feel the change in their surroundings, they had nowhere else to go but to stay in the unpredictable Earth City, awaiting the verdict of fate.
“Lulu doesn’t know either.” Lulu hugged her knees, her small body curled up under the table.
Seeing the rabbit-eared girl respond this way, Kaga grunted but didn’t continue the conversation.
The changes in adults’ lives had, surprisingly, left them dispirited as well.
“Alright, you little ones are slacking off in my place again, be careful or I’ll report you to your supervisors.”
Suddenly, a rough voice startled the children huddled beneath the table.
Such a fright made Kaga hit his head on the table corner, causing him to hold his forehead in pain as tears welled up in his eyes.
“Uncle Luca, why did you have to scare us again?
You said we could slack off here, didn’t you?”
In contrast to her shocked companions, Lulu wasn’t terrified upon seeing the intruder.
Instead, she wore an expression of complete contempt.
It was a life form resembling an octopus, wearing ragged clothes with many holes in them.
Nurous tentacles extended out, cleaning up the pub.
This creature was the owner of the restaurant, and one of the first to be granted permission to operate a business in Earth City.
In fact, this being was also an Extraterrestrial Strongman.
However, given the nurous Strong Ones in Earth City, he didn’t stand out.
Having once been the leader of a convoy team, he gave up on his ambition to compete after being forcibly integrated into Earth City.
After all, extraterrestrial intelligent life forms also have a lifespan.
Especially for this octopus-like species, who were the product of a previous civilization’s experint in fish evolution.
Now, they’ve beco a common species in many planets across the Starfield.
Their only downside is their short lifespan, probably around eighty Earth years.
This forr leader, after nurous battles and eventual incorporation of his forces by the Earth City, was left with only a small amount of savings.
With both his abilities and lifespan (now around seventy Earth years) not particularly impressive, he planned to spend his remaining years not in fighting for control, but instead just trying to survive as an ordinary being in Earth City.
This intention was the reason this shop was established in the first place.
Now seeing Lulu and the other children in his shop was part of his earlier plan – perhaps to sympathize with these children.
As a forr mass murderer turned Octopus Monster, he incredibly gave these children the freedom to loiter around his bar regularly.
Although these kids would often make a ss in the restaurant, they beca a scenery that many Earth City residents and Earth Army mbers enjoyed, drawing them to visit the bar.
“Lulu, you’re mistaken.
I only agreed to let you guys rest here.
I never ntioned anything about not scaring you.” The Octopus Monster was wiping down items in the bar with several tentacles while teasing the children hiding under the table.
He knew that the managent of Earth City were probably aware of the children slacking off.
They were just turning a blind eye.
They couldn’t possibly let these children live completely free in Earth City; assigning them symbolic work tasks was rely an excuse.
Upon hearing the Octopus Monster’s words, Lulu started chuckling: “Uncle Luca, you’re so an!” But there was no fear in her tone.
She knew the Octopus Monster wouldn’t actually report them.
