"Haha, sotis the class monitor can indeed be a bit unserious, but when it’s ti to be serious, he’s really serious. He’s also very smart, always able to guess what’s on others’ minds, and his eloquence is amazing. He can effortlessly sell gadgets at the electronics store, even the seniors at the store admire him!"

Liu Wanyin naturally admired Su Zelin greatly, and even had a bit of a crush on him.

"Wanyin, do you... like the class monitor?"

Luo Xi joked half-seriously.

"No, no..."

Liu Wanyin quickly replied, "A guy like the class monitor, I, I don’t deserve him. Ah Xi, I actually think you and the class monitor are a good match. Both of you co from such good families, the class monitor is tall and handso, and you’re beautiful and graceful."

Unexpectedly, Luo Xi was taken aback by Liu Wanyin’s skillful deflection and panicked as well.

"Don’t, don’t say that, it’s not true. I’m just his ’capable little assistant’ – that’s how I’m noted in his phonebook!"

Luo Xi shook her head vigorously in denial, but a thought suddenly popped into her mind.

If the class monitor pursued , would I accept?

She’d never really considered this question before.

Her relationship with Su Zelin was close, primarily due to nurous class affairs they handled together. Luo Xi had never thought deeply about a romantic relationship with him.

But then again, such a guy, it must be hard for any girl to refuse him...

After making sure Liu Wanyin was okay, the next day the two set off on their journey back.

Before leaving, Su Zelin and Luo Xi found Liu Wanyin.

Luo Xi held her hand, "Wanyin, take good care of your dad. Once he’s recovered, co back to school. I’ll take care of notifying Counselor Wu and Teacher Yao about your leave, I’m sure they’ll understand!"

"Don’t worry about the electronics store. I’ll explain your special circumstances to Manager Kang. The job will certainly be saved for you. After all, our Wanyin is the store’s beauty and banner at New Era. Without you, the overall attractiveness quotient would drop by twenty percent, and business by twenty percent. If he dared to fire you, I wouldn’t have it!"

The rascal thumped his chest loudly.

Liu Wanyin was amused by him.

"Class monitor, you’re joking, I’m hardly the store’s beauty!"

However, with Su Zelin’s words, she felt reassured, as if she had taken a calming pill.

Liu Wanyin knew she had little influence on the electronics store, but if Su Zelin really left, the store’s business might indeed drop by twenty percent.

With the class monitor speaking up for her, and given his reputation, Manager Kang probably wouldn’t fire her. Besides, Manager Kang wasn’t a strict boss; he was reasonable.

Liu Wanyin escorted the two to the village entrance, where Uncle San’s big iron bull was already waiting. Today, Uncle San was going to the town, and they could hitch a ride.

Su Zelin and Luo Xi hopped onto the tractor’s rear.

"Alright, Wanyin, you should head back!"

"Okay."

Even so, Liu Wanyin remained rooted to the spot.

Not until the big iron bull spewed black smoke and disappeared into the distance did Liu Wanyin slowly walk back ho.

As she packed up the guest room and folded the bedding, she found sothing under the pillow.

It was an envelope, and opening it revealed sothing unexpected.

Liu Wanyin’s pupils contracted instantly.

A stack of money.

A quick tally showed at least twenty bills.

The back of the envelope had two ssages written on it.

"Wanyin, this is a small token from the class monitor and for your dad to buy so supplents. Please don’t refuse. We hope you can return to the first class of finance managent soon. We’ll be waiting for you at the academy, without fail!"

"Wanyin, do you rember what I told you? There are no insurmountable obstacles in life! Every ship on the sea, more or less, endures the baptism of storms and waves; setbacks, like the harsh winter, no matter how cold, cannot hinder the arrival of spring! Tomorrow is always beautiful, keep going!"

The handwriting styles of the two lines were markedly different.

The first line was neat and elegant.

The second line was flamboyant and vigorous.

Liu Wanyin could imdiately recognize it was Luo Xi’s and Su Zelin’s handwriting.

Especially the latter, it was unmistakably distinctive.

During the first class eting, when the rascal wrote "Su Zelin" with chalk on the blackboard, everyone rembered his powerful, deep, yet fluid and free handwriting.

This was a decision Su Zelin and Luo Xi made the night before, while Liu Wanyin was cooking.

They pooled all the money they had, keeping only enough for their fare, and put the rest in the envelope, silently leaving it under the pillow before Su Zelin departed, not giving Liu Wanyin a chance to refuse.

This was rely their pocket money and New Year’s money, not much really.

Even spending less of it wouldn’t significantly affect their quality of life.

However, for a family like Liu Wanyin’s, it carried profound significance, like providing coal in the snow.

Staring at the two lines of writing, Liu Wanyin covered her face, choking back sobs as tears blurred her vision.

Without these two, she didn’t know what her life would be like today.

Perhaps, without securing the scholarship and with her dad injured, she’d have given up on university by now.

While washing dishes and doing odd jobs on the snack street, she had many tis thought about these things.

Too bitter, too tiring, and the path ahead was always dark, seemingly with no hope in sight.

For others, university life was enjoyable, wishing it would last longer, yet for Liu Wanyin, it was so long and arduous to endure.

Nonetheless, when she was in despair, she saw a glimr of light.

The class monitor and vice-class monitor intervened in her life.

She secured the scholarship, changed to a part-ti job at the electronics store, and naturally, those negative thoughts disappeared.

Even though life was still tough, she found confidence and understood what friendship truly ant!

During that period, it was the first ti she believed she could have a future!

Wiping away her tears, Liu Wanyin treasured the envelope, holding it tightly to her chest.

Class monitor, Ah Xi, rest assured, I will definitely return!
