"I wonder how my master is doing right now." Chang Shuchun said, aching with longing to see her family again.
"For now, we need to get you processed through the proper channels. However, if I simply take you to the police as a kidnapping victim who vanished in 2015, there is going to be a mountain of difficult, prying questions. Are you truly prepared to tell them the absolute truth about what that man did to you?" Yu Qi asked, her eyes searching Chang Shuchun’s face, curious about the weight of the decision the woman was about to make.
"I cannot tell the police the whole story. I refuse to let the public know about the spiritual details of my ordeal. It would only invite the greed of n who seek to exploit such power for themselves." Chang Shuchun said, her voice finally gaining a flicker of its forr strength and conviction.
Yu Qi nodded slowly, showing a quiet respect for Chang Shuchun’s wisdom and caution.
"I will tell them that I was kept in a windowless, locked room and that I managed to slip away when my captor failed to return one day. I will explain that while I was fleeing, I happened to cross paths with you, and you helped by bringing straight to the station. Well... it is partially true, at the very least." Chang Shuchun added with a faint, weary smile.
"Do you want to contact your Sect on your behalf?" Yu Qi offered.
"There is no need. Once I am safely under the protection of the authorities... I will contact them myself." Chang Shuchun said firmly, her resolve hardening.
"Great. Let’s head to the police station then," Yu Qi said.
Yu Qi steered the car back onto the main road, heading steadily toward the police station.
As the police station finally ca into view, Chang Shuchun spoke up again. "Miss Tang... if my master asks who saved from that man, I intend to tell him the full truth. I can not lie to him. He would sense the deceit in my heart imdiately."
Yu Qi considered the request for a mont. She didn’t feel that she had done anything wrong or had anything to hide from a Sect Master.
"I understand. If he asks, tell him the truth." Yu Qi agreed.
The car ca to a smooth halt in front of the station. Both won stepped out of the vehicle and walked inside, the chi of the door announcing their arrival. Several of the officers on duty recognised Yu Qi imdiately. However, being seasoned professionals, they did not rush over to surround her as the general public might have. They remained composed and professional, though their eyes held a glimr of recognition.
"Hello... I would like to report sothing." Chang Shuchun stated as they reached the front counter.
The duty officer looked up and nodded politely. "Yes, please. Take a seat and tell exactly what happened."
Chang Shuchun took a deep, steadying breath.
"I think... I think I am a missing person." Chang Shuchun said.
"What?" The police officer was visibly startled, his casual deanour vanishing instantly.
His expression turned deadly serious. One of the officers seated behind the counter stood up and moved quickly toward a computer terminal.
"Miss, please tell your na. I will check the database for any active missing persons files." The police officer stated.
"Chang Shuchun." Chang Shuchun stated her na clearly.
The police officer’s fingers flew across the keyboard. As the results loaded, other officers nearby drifted closer to look at the screen, their curiosity piqued.
"Chang Shuchun? The charm seller from Guanying City?" The police officer stamred, his eyes wide with disbelief. "You have been listed as missing since 2015. That’s over three years ago!"
Realising the gravity of the situation, the police officer stood up.
Alright. Let’s move to a private room. We can speak there more comfortably and in detail." The police officer said.
"Can I request a female officer to handle my statent?" Chang Shuchun asked, her voice dropping to a low, vulnerable whisper.
"Of course... I will ask my colleague to conduct the interview imdiately." The male police officer said with a sympathetic nod.
He understood the unspoken implication. If the kidnapper had been male, a female presence would provide a much-needed sense of safety.
"How about you, Miss Tang? Will you be joining us for the statent?" The police officer asked.
"There is no need for that. I am going to head out now. I was simply the one who brought her here. I found her walking alone in a remote area and had no idea she was a missing person." Yu Qi explained smoothly.
"And what were you doing in such a remote area, if I may ask?" The police officer questioned, purely for the record.
"I was surveying the land for potential investnt. If the location proves suitable, I am interested in purchasing the property." Yu Qi replied.
"I see. That makes sense. We will take over the case from here." The police officer said with a nod of understanding.
"If you require anything further from , you can find at the Saisei Ryokan. I have been staying there for the past few days." Yu Qi stated.
"We understand. Thank you for your assistance, Miss Tang." The police officer said, bowing his head respectfully as Yu Qi made her exit.
A short while later, Chang Shuchun sat in a quiet interview room. Above her, the fluorescent lights flickered with a harsh, sterile hum, and the air in the room was heavy with the scent of stale coffee and old, dusty paperwork. A police officer gave Chang Shuchun a glass of water.
