"Hmph, fortunes change. Don't underestimate a young man's potential!"
Jack, back in his uniform, was in high spirits. Thankfully, when he transmigrated, he already had the personality of a middle-aged man. Although patience is a virtue, he still managed to hold back for two or three years.
If he had transmigrated 20 years earlier, with his younger self, he would never have allowed himself to be bullied like this. He might have secretly hidden a knife and gone to fight to the death. Who knows what the outco would have been? He certainly wouldn't have beco a policeman, and the system would probably have been destroyed as well.
Leaving the police station and returning to patrol the streets, Lucy looked at Jack with a hint of admiration. She knew Jack ca from a near-slum area, but she had never thought about it in detail.
The LAPD isn't a small-town police departnt. While offering relatively high salaries, they are extrely strict in reviewing personal files. Even minor criminal records from underage individuals are imdiately rejected, at least for now.
So Jack's experience is a minor legend for most underprivileged teenagers, at least "inspiring" enough.
The two had barely left the police station when the command center imdiately contacted them.
"Patrol car 7-A-26, a disturbance has broken out at 25616 Wilshire. Do you have ti to respond?"
Jack, in a good mood, grabbed the walkie-talkie and replied, "Command center, received. We will proceed to respond."
He then turned on the siren and drove towards the location.
"Wow, what a serious disturbance." Jack stared blankly at the scene before him.
25616 Wilshire was a seemingly well-known bridal shop. He had just parked his car when he could see through the clear floor-to-ceiling windows two people, presumably custors, arguing fiercely over a wedding dress.
If Jack had to describe the scene, he would prefer to use the words "disturbing" or "pleasing to the eye."
The reason for using two completely contradictory words is that the two brides-to-be were slightly disheveled. To be precise, it was probably because the fight had started in the fitting room, so they were both wearing very little.
Jack opened the store door, gesturing for Lucy to go in first, and at the sa ti turned on his body cara. He had a feeling that many people would want to get their hands on his and Lucy's body cara footage today.
"Police!"
Lucy turned around as she entered and was surprised to find Angela and Tim, who were supposed to be on leave today, standing nearby. Tim was even holding a phone and filming a video.
"Ahem, I'm taking pictures as evidence." Tim, seeing his girlfriend appear, nervously put away his phone.
Unexpectedly, Lucy's focus wasn't on that at all, but rather on gossiping with delighted surprise, "Are you helping Angela choose a wedding dress?"
Angela, seemingly enjoying the gossip, smiled and said, "You two should finish what you're doing first."
"Ladies, please calm down."
Jack stood far away, completely hesitant to approach. Although he'd been a patrol officer for almost a year and seen his share of troubles, this was a first for him. He wondered if he'd get a complaint if he went forward.
"Angela, please help out. A French al."
He could only plead with Angela for help. There was no other way; off-duty officers had the right to choose whether or not to intervene in criminal activity.
Lucy couldn't handle both of them alone. Although Angela was heavily pregnant, she was less than five months along, and subduing one of them would be a piece of cake for her.
Just as Angela was about to step forward, one of the brides-to-be shouted and rushed towards the door.
"I absolutely have to get this dress, ahhh!"
Just as Jack was still agonizing over how to stop her, Tim had already hooked her with his foot.
"Ouch!"
Even with two sturdy cushions, the long gap between her chest and the ground looked painful.
"You're under arrest."
Jack handcuffed her and casually grabbed a veil from a nearby rack to cover her body. The commotion in the bridal shop had already attracted the attention of passersby outside, and quite a few people were already taking pictures through the window with their phones.
"So, you really ca here to help Angela choose a wedding dress. I didn't realize you had the potential to be a male best friend."
After shoving the already crazed bride-to-be into the back seat of the police car, Jack finally had ti to tease Tim.
Tim rolled his eyes helplessly. "She texted 911 first thing this morning, telling to co here, but when I got there, it turned out she was just having an emotional breakdown because she couldn't find a suitable wedding dress due to pregnancy and weight gain."
"Hmm, should I be glad I didn't take a day off today?"
Jack glanced at Angela, who seed quite happy, showing no signs of distress. Thinking about the two brides-to-be from earlier, he could understand. She was pregnant and a bride-to-be, with an extra layer of "buff," so her emotional fluctuations were understandable.
"Hey, Jack, why isn't Hannah answering my calls or replying to my ssages?" Angela, who was talking to Lucy, noticed Jack looking at her and quickly waved to him.
"Uh, her phone probably died. She was probably still sleeping this morning."
Jack watched the two won continue whispering, glancing over every now and then, and giving mysterious smiles..
Back at the police station, after adding two more brides-to-be to the detention room, Jack and Lucy drove out again, about to find a place for lunch, when the command center's communication ca in again.
"Patrol car 7-A-26, ard robbery, Copley Trust Bank, 28700 Wilshire Street. Patrol car 7-A-15 has been confird on the scene, requesting backup."
"It's Nolan and Nyla, we need to hurry."
Jack floored the accelerator, and the police car sped towards the robbed bank with a loud tire-burning roar.
A block before reaching their destination, Jack turned off the siren. Turning the corner, he saw Nolan and Nyla's police car not far away.
Nolan was crouching on the steps outside the bank, peering inside to observe the situation, while Nyla, holding a rifle, aid at the bank from across the street, using the hood of the police car.
Jack got out, signaling Lucy to retrieve an AR-15 from the trunk to et Nyla, while he himself crouched and ran towards Nolan's position.
Nolan was watching inside the bank, reporting the situation over his walkie-talkie.
"Male, approximately 6 feet tall, black leather jacket, beige shirt, blue jeans, wearing a mask, and carrying a handgun."
"There are seven hostages at the scene, including two tellers and one security guard."
Nolan was about to continue his report when he noticed a sudden change in the situation inside the bank. For so unknown reason, the security guard, who had been lying on the ground, suddenly sprang up and began fighting with the robber.
