"Alright, there's no one else here. Tell what happened," Jack urged. Even Nolan, standing nearby, noticed sothing was off about the man. What kind of cowardly bank robber would act like this?
"They kidnapped my wife and daughter and demand $250,000 from . I have no choice, please, let take the money! My daughter is only eight!"
Cooper sobbed, clutching his canvas bag tightly, as if it were his only hope.
Nolan quickly reassured him, "Don't panic, relax. Who kidnapped your family? Where are they? We'll find a way to rescue them."
Cooper shook his head, simply throwing away his gun and crouching down, covering his face.
"I don't know. This morning, three n broke into our house at gunpoint, kidnapped my whole family, and demanded at least $250,000."
"But I recently failed in my investnts, and we barely manage to make ends et with my wife and using our credit cards. We simply can't co up with that much cash. They took my wife and daughter away, demanding that I produce that much money by tonight, or they'll kill them."
Jack pointed outside: "Are the kidnappers in that car outside? Are your wife and daughter in there too?"
"There were two people in the car, but my wife and daughter weren't in it. Another person took them away, and I don't know where they went."
This is a bit troubleso. Jack and Nolan exchanged a glance, both feeling that this matter was sowhat tricky.
Nolan went forward first and handcuffed Cooper. Jack picked up the revolver on the ground, opened the cylinder, and looked inside. There wasn't a single bullet. He believed most of the guy's story.
"Do you have any ideas?" Jack was known for his resourcefulness, so Nolan didn't bother to rack his brains and just asked him to co up with a solution.
Jack pondered for a mont, a smile appearing on his face. "Do you think if the kidnappers see Cooper dead, they'll notify their accomplices on the other side to kill him and cover their tracks, or will they go back and discuss things before coming up with another plan?"
Nolan hesitated, sowhat uncertainly saying, "Since they chose to force Cooper out to rob the bank, they shouldn't give up so easily, right?"
Jack smiled at the sowhat bewildered Cooper and said, "Then we'll need your cooperation to get 'killed' by us."
It's not like they're dealing with superheroes; the sa trick can be used twice.
Jack picked up the walkie-talkie, contacted Commander Grey directly, explained the situation, and then presented his plan.
Not long after, gunshots suddenly rang out inside the bank, a large group of police officers rushed in, and then an ambulance arrived. A body was put into a body bag and carried out on a stretcher.
The whole process didn't last long; soon the LAPD withdrew, and the number of patrol officers guarding the scene dwindled. It seed no one suspected the van parked on the side of the road.
Only after the bank entrance was cordoned off, leaving only one officer sitting on the steps eating a donut, did movent finally occur inside the car. Soone climbed from the trunk into the driver's seat, looked around through the window, and then slowly started the car and drove away.
"Don't follow too closely. Commander Grey has arranged for five cars to take turns following them. These two won't get away," Nyla instructed the team on the team channel from the passenger seat.
Jack's partner had temporarily changed to Nyla because Lucy needed to pick up Cooper, who was pretending to be a corpse, from the ambulance on the way and take him back to the police station. Regardless, robbing a bank is illegal, but given the circumstances and the lack of serious consequences, the prosecutor's office was unlikely to file charges.
Since police cars couldn't easily follow, Hannah drove the Firebird to the scene and handed it over to Jack. Four other civilian vehicles of different models were driven by other officers, and a police helicopter was on standby in the air, just in case.
[A/n: I still don't understand why the MC doesn't a second-hand car that is inconspicuous, like his firebird is like a beacon for anyone who observes or is slightly tensed, no need of paranoia. But here he is driving it to every cri scene and still complain about getting stratches.]
The police helicopter kept a safe distance to avoid detection, but more than ten police cars followed about 2 kiloters away, ready to provide support at any ti.
Jack's Firebird was more conspicuous, so it trailed far behind. Leading the pack was poor Tim in his Dodge pickup truck; after accompanying Angela to a bridal shop, he had his vacation abruptly canceled and was called back to help.
"Jack, let's switch places. Looks like they're going onto the highway. Nolan will take over after they get off."
Hearing Tim's instructions on the radio, Jack lightly pressed the accelerator, overtaking the Dodge pickup and becoming the first car following the van.
Less than ten minutes later, the kidnappers' car exited the highway, and Nolan switched places with Jack again.
After driving for a short while after exiting the highway, Nolan suddenly asked nervously, "Hey guys, they slowed down. They might be turning. They used their turn signal; they're preparing to turn right at the intersection of Oakmont Street and Aberdeen Street."
Tim quickly ordered, "Keep going. Turning right on Oakmont Street is a dead end; you'll be spotted. The rest of you, get out nearby and walk."
Jack, who was following Nolan, pulled over to the right. Nyla, rifle in hand, followed behind him. After walking a few steps around the corner, they saw the van parked in front of a gray house.
"Hey guys, how's it going? See them?" Nolan caught up with them, panting.
"They're inside." Nyla pointed to the house and picked up her walkie-talkie.
"Command center, check the owner information for this car."
She then gave the license plate number of another brand-new Cadillac XT5 parked in front of the gray house.
"The vehicle is registered to Charles Lindsey Sniling, who has a restraining order against him and a prior ard robbery conviction."
"That's right." Jack glanced back; the reinforcents were arriving one after another.
Tim, as the highest-ranking officer present, naturally took command.
"Tavelor, Harper, and Nolan, the three of you go around to the backyard and see if you can sneak into the house without alerting them. Be careful; they may have won and children as hostages."
Jack nodded, pulled out his Glock, checked the weapon, and led the way, followed by Nolan with a shotgun and Nyla with an AR-15 rifle.
Reaching the cluttered backyard, Jack reached for the wooden door handle, and the door opened silently.
The three filed in. Inside, they heard several n arguing loudly. Jack leaned against the hallway, pretending to listen, but his senses were fully alert.
Only the voices of three n could be heard from the living room. From a room at the end of the corridor, the faint sounds of a child crying and a mother comforting her child could be heard. Jack secretly breathed a sigh of relief; the criminals and the hostages were currently separated, making things simpler.
He held up three fingers to the left, pointing towards the living room, then held up two fingers, pointing to the room at the end of the corridor. Nolan and Nyla nodded in understanding.
